Chapter 1484
Aiken handed over a talisman to Simona. "This is from Skylar. It will protect you from being influenced by any negative items."
Simona stared at the talisman for a moment before understanding dawned on her. "Wait... Are you saying that I've been so irrationally attached to Stephen lately because he's carrying some negative items? And Skylar saw me with him at the restaurant a few days ago and noticed I was under its effect, and that's why she gave me this, right?"
Aiken nodded and patiently explained everything from start to finish.
Simona's eyes widened with every word. "Stephen is beyond disgusting. Did he use negative items to manipulate me? No wonder I felt like two voices were battling in my mind.
"One would tell me to get a grip and leave him, but the other kept insisting I couldn't lose him. Sometimes, I felt like I was losing control of myself, like I was obsessed with him. But when I was alone, it didn't feel right."
It was infuriating. Once again, Stephen's shamelessness had left Simona in utter disbelief. He had completely shattered her understanding of how low a person could sink.
To manipulate her feelings and decisions using a negative item just to achieve his goals was beyond despicable. There were no limits to what he would do. Such deceit and manipulation were nothing short of vile and appalling.
Aiken's expression darkened. "At least we caught it before it could do worse damage. He won't be able to hurt you again."
"If he dares come near me again, I'll make sure he regrets it," Simona fumed.
Just the thought of how lucky she was that Skylar had intervened in time made her shudder. Without that intervention, Stephen might have manipulated her into sleeping with him.
The mere thought of having been intimate with such a despicable person made her feel sick to her core. It was a revolting feeling.
They hadn't crossed that line, but the kiss was enough to make her wish she could rid herself of every trace of it. If only she could wash it all away until she could meet her own reflection without seeing Stephen's presence in the back of her mind.
Aiken watched Simona's disgust and frustration, thinking of the tangled mess Stephen had made for himself. He spoke calmly, "Stephen's actions will corner him soon. It won't be long before he pays the price for everything he's done."
"I only now realize that he would stop at nothing to get what he wants, without morals or boundaries. But with Skylar's help this time, I won't be afraid of these negative items harming me anymore."
Simona was furious with her past naivety, wishing she could slap some sense into her former self. She could barely believe she had ever fallen for someone like Stephen.
Maybe she had been drawn in by his charm and deceptive appearance.
He did look handsome, but his pretentiousness in social interactions made him seem arrogant. Thinking back now, that high and mighty attitude was just something he had deliberately put on.
She realized just how superficial she had been in the past.
"Aiken, I'm sorry for worrying you these past few days," Simona said, feeling guilty. She had made Aiken worry when they were little, and now that she had grown up, she was still causing him the same trouble.

Aiken's cold expression softened. "We're siblings. There are no faults between us. The one at fault is
Stephen. But if you can learn
something from this and avoidnovelbin
falling for the same kind of scum in the future, then this experience won't have been a waste of time."
"I've been deceived by him three or four times already. I'll remember this lesson. Don't worry, Aiken." Simona wanted to slap herself for being so foolish. But she held back from doing it in front of him.
In any case, she was wide awake now. "Stephen, what a scoundrel you are!"
Just then, Aiken's phone rang.
Simona stood up. "Go ahead and
take the call, Aiken. I'll head back to college. No matter how much of a scoundrel he is, I can't let him stop me from focusing on my graduate school entrance exam."
Aiken nodded in agreement and answered the call. "Don't bother returning it. Just throw it away."
As Simona walked toward the door, she heard those words and blinked. She wondered what Aiken meant by "throw it away".
Maybe it was another one of Aiken's past relationships coming back to haunt him. In recent years, Aiken hadn't been around many women. She wondered if there was a new woman in his life now.
From the tone of his voice, it didn't seem like the usual dismissive attitude he had toward those who just wanted money.
