Chapter 222
Xadeon’s pov
I had my mate by my side, my son, and his mate, Kaylee who had refused to stay and wait. I hated rogues, however, this one seemed loyal to my son and soon if things went well, she’d be a part of the pack fully.
But I knew her presence would set Alister on edge, however, it was better to show her now than him being surprised to suddenly see her. I cannot risk upsetting the man more than he is now.
I stole a glance at her uneasily, an unease crawling up my spine. We were about to bring her into danger, something we were uncertain we would be able to fight on our own. However, her stance and the look in her eyes showed me that she did not fear anything. A great quality.
I moved my eyes away when I heard a slight rustle amongst the trees. The scent was familiar so we were not alarmed and waited for him to step out and reveal himself.
Henry’s wolf emerged out of the gloom of the trees, his beast moving silently to fall into step with us.
‘Are you sure about bringing the rogue with you, alpha?’ My beta mind linked me.’ Alister looks-
He didn’t finish his words but I got what he meant to say. ‘Don’t question me. Keep your eyes trained on Alister and let me know if anything seems amiss.’
Yes, alpha,’ he replied.
I looked over at my mate and son, silently telling them we need to quicken. With a nod we all pushed forward, running through the gloss of trees as the forest thickened around us. We were close now, I could feel it, the power of the council we were not prepared for.
Too close for comfort.
We should have been more prepared. Another mistake on my part.
I glance once more at Kaylee, surprised to see the determination set in her eyes as she kept pace beside Xaden. I cannot help but admire her bravery. She was putting herself on the line for my son when she had the opportunity to run away and save herself.
She was showing more loyalty than some of those in the pack. That alone shows that she was the perfect choice for my son. The moon goddess never miss.
I move my eyes off the two and looked forward, my beast growing rigid the closer we got to where the council waited for us. My mate drew closer to me, her just being here comforting amidst the tension brewing.
For a moment I allowed myself to breathe in her comfort, breathe in the love she had for me, breathe in her. Because I didn’t know how things would go once we reach where the council was waiting for us.
The strain we all felt mounted the closer we got to the clearing. Of all the battles we have faced as a pack, this one felt the most darkened with unknown. We were on a scale, balanced between the council and hunters.
We could tip at any moment.
As we finally got to the clearing, the council’s power hit us like a wave. I could see them just up ahead with some of the men from my pack waiting for my arrival. We were outnumbered, that I could tell.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
And by the singing of the trees and the wind, I knew that Alister had made some of his men hide away. He had come prepared. We hadn’t.
