Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 446

Alex handed over the phone with a nervous respect, "Your call..."

Everett's gaze was as cold as ice, clearly not happy that a phone call was holding up their takeoff. Alex felt a tight knot in her stomach; she'd never dare with anyone else, but with him, she had no choice. She quickly added, "It's Josh on the line. He insisted you take it."

Grandpa.

Selena's eyes, which had been dim, suddenly sparked with a bit of light.

Everett's handsome face darkened even more, his lips set in a tight line, but he reached out to take the phone from Alex and put it to his ear.

"Hello, Grandpa."

Josh's voice blared through the phone, filled with anger, loud enough that everyone nearby could hear without needing the speaker.

"You reckless boy! Bring Selena back to see me now, unless you want to be responsible for my death!"

"Grandpa..."

Everett tried to speak, but Josh cut him off. "Quiet! I don't want excuses. Either bring my granddaughter-in-law and great-grandson back, or come home to handle my funeral!" With that, he hung up, leaving no room for discussion.

Everett put the phone down, his expression stormy. After a beat, he turned to Selena, who was barely hiding her glee, and felt a sharp sting of irritation.

His fingers pinched her chin, pulling her closer until she was eye-to-eye with him. He smirked, but his eyes were devoid of any humor, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

"Mrs. Bennett, you've got quite the backup, don't you?"

First Callum, now Josh.

Selena met his dark eyes without flinching, snapping back, "Mr. Everett, maybe you should look in the mirror. Who asked you to act like anything but a decent human being?" Is this how normal couples act?

"Alright then."

Everett's voice was laced with menace, anger masking his amusement: "You think Josh has your back, so you can slip out of my grasp?"

"Too bad. As long as you're my wife, you're mine!"

Here we go again...

Selena was too exhausted to argue anymore. It was pointless.

She tried with all her might to break free, but Everett held firm. Instead, he grabbed her waist and lifted her onto his lap.

Alex:............

Despite her strong work ethic, Alex was still single, probably because she was always so focused on her career.

This kind of scene was definitely not meant for her eyes.

Her face flushed red, she turned away, pretending to be engrossed in the sky. Everyone else seemed suddenly busy too, looking everywhere except at the couple.

Selena bit him hard, and only then did Everett, breathless, let her go. Her lips were numb, and with the lack of oxygen, she didn't have the strength to push him anymore, only able to lean against him, panting.

After a moment, Everett regained his usual calm, as if the wild scene had been just a figment of imagination.

He gently placed Selena back in her seat, straightened his rumpled clothes with grace, and instructed the pilot, "Let's head back home."

The cabin doors closed again, the helicopter's blades whirred, stirring up a gust of wind before they soared into the sky.
