Chapter 781
Chapter 781
Agnes and Jared went to the quaint old neighborhood of Harmony Hollow.
The once lively lanes were now eerily quiet, the usual cacophony of barking dogs and roaming cats,
nowhere to be found.
Agnes approached the last house, knocking on the door.
Mrs. Fabian greeted them almost immediately, her eyes lighting up in recognition. "Why, it's you two!
Come in! I've been thinking of ways to thank you."
Upon entering, they found the elderly couple sitting at the dining table, enjoying their supper.
Mrs. Fabian offered generously, "I hope you two haven't had dinner yet. Please join us. We've cooked
some extra dishes since we're in a celebratory mood."
Agnes accepted gladly. "We were actually feeling a bit hungry, so OK, let’s have dinner together."
Mrs. Fabian said, "You two are our saviors. It's our pleasure to share a meal with you."
With the table set, they sat down to eat.
Agnes had always known Jared to be particular about his food and cleanliness, and she worried that he
might be uncomfortable with the humble setting. To her surprise, he relished the meal, praising Mrs.
Fabian’s cooking skills.
Mrs. Fabian, a little embarrassed, thanked them profusely, "You've brought so much relief to us by
finding homes for all the stray animals. You've fulfilled our wish of many years." Tears welled up in her ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
eyes as she said this.
Agnes understood their mixed feelings. "I know how much you cared for those animals, and it must be
hard to see the neighborhood so empty now."
She handed them a list of all the new owners and their contact details. "You can visit any of them
whenever you want. Everyone was so touched by your kindness and they would be more than happy to
have you over."
All of the stray dogs and cats sought owners in the city, and most of them were also from nearby
neighborhoods.
Mr. and Mrs. Fabian looked at the list and couldn't hold back their tears. "You are so kind. Thank you so
much."
Seeing their grateful tears, Agnes felt a deep sense of accomplishment.
A cat came over and curled up on Agnes' lap. This was one of the two pets that the Fabians had
decided to keep, the other being their oldest dog, Max.
Agnes advised them, "Now that all the strays have found homes, it's time for you two to move out as
well. These houses are old and unsafe."
Mrs. Fabian agreed, promising to move out the next day. Mrs. Fabian said, “Ms. Pritchard, you are
really a good person. We really owe it to you this time. If there is anything that you need our old couple
to help you with, just let us know, and we will definitely do our best."
Agnes smiled, "You and Mr. Fabian have worked hard for most of your life, so just enjoy life."
As they left Harmony Hollow, Agnes felt a lightness in her heart, humming a tune without realizing it.
Jared looked at her with a smile, "You seem pretty happy."
Agnes replied, "Of course, this is the greatest achievement for a journalist."
Jared asked about her future plans.
Agnes thought for a moment before responding, "My next step is to become a leading reporter for The
Primary Perspective, create my own column, and build a harmonious team. That's my immediate goal."
Under the dim moonlight, Jared looked at Agnes' radiant face and felt as if she was glowing.
