Branch Twenty Three
Xavier watched as Jessica came out of the room. He was sulking as he sat on one of the waiting chairs in the hallway. He actually thought of leaving her here since it seemed like she was taking his grandfather’s side and thinking of giving him a great-grandchild.
His grandfather should be content. He asked him to get married which he did after much constraint and thought but now a new favor? He felt bad for talking to his grandfather like that but it seemed as though his grandfather was using his sickness as an excuse to get him to do things.
Jessica had her sit beside Xavier. She wanted to comfort him and tell him that she did not plan to have children with him. Although she did her children were set for life and would never have to worry like she did as a kid.
She was definitely not going to be giving her virginity to a man who acts like a child, bully, and jerk all at once. He could win an award for that.
“Do not worry Mr. Delgado, I have no intentions of getting pregnant. At least by you”
Someone her statement did something strange to Xavier’s stomach. Her words were right and what he wanted but hearing them did not quite sit well with him. He wanted to react but he controlled himself because that was what he wanted.
He would not be satisfying himself sexually with this woman. She had many secrets and he knew her no more better than a stranger.
“Mr. Delgado, you know we are yet to sign the contract we said we would sign. When do you think we can do so?” Jessica asked.
She wanted Xavier to see that she was really not interested in making her children heir of the greatest empire in the Chiachester city no matter how tempting it was.
“I will have a lawyer whip up a contract. If you have any terms you want to be met for your troubles send it to me and I’ll add it to the contract if it seems reasonable enough” Xavier answered.
He had been busy ever since the wedding that his mind derailed from the contract. It was a relief that Jessica reminded him of it.
“I must say, Jessica, I’m glad that you remembered the contract. The earlier we sign it and settle it all the better for us”
“It’s no problem at all,” Jessica said.
She was going to leave the city after the divorce. She couldn’t possibly stand the judgment of the city after the divorce. She only would be blamed because why would they blame the golden boy of the city? All she would ask for is enough settlement to live her dream life in any city she chooses.
“Can we go?” Jessica said standing up.
“Oh yes, give me your hands. We still have to continue acting” Xavier said offering his arm to her which she took.
“Let’s switch things up. I’m driving” Jessica said.
“I do not think that’s a very good idea,” Xavier said.
“You don’t think I have good ideas Do you?” Jessica asked.
Maybe poking at him would help her get what she wanted.
“Fine you can drive” Xavier gave in not wanting to offend his wife who seemed to be easily offended.
“Thank you”
Jessica drove at a very slow speed but she got home eventually.
“I thought we were going to get home next year,” Xavier said as she pulled up to the front of the mansion.
“I do not drive very often so I don’t know how well to drive,” Jessica said on defense.
The reason she volunteered to drive was that it had been a while. She only drove to high school where they stole the car of the orphanage owner and crashed. They got into trouble for it with both the owner and the police.
She was even shocked that her brain, hand, and feet remember the way to go about it.
“You can take any of the cars in the garage to practice how to drive but as long as you stay the lady of the house, you would rarely need to drive yourself,” Xavier said.
It was true because the staff barely let her cook without them fussing over her every move. She could probably learn how to drive for the sake of it. When she leaves the mansion at the end, she would buy herself a car and drive herself around.
“Mr Delgado,” Jessica said calling his attention while removing her seat belt.
“Do you not think it weird that you call me that? You can call me by my first name Xavier. It would be much better if you get used to calling me like that so take you do not end up making a mistake in front of others” Xavier said.
Jessica had thought of addressing him informally by his first name but his attitude toward her made her feel uncomfortable with the thought. She did not know how to react to him telling her to feel comfortable on a first-name basis.
“Xavier,” she said testing the name on her tongue.
“See sounds much better,” Xavier said.
Compared to the attitude he just displayed at his grandfather’s dying bedside, he was being more considerate and thoughtful. He must have a multiple personality disorder. How can someone go from making his grandfather to now making her feel better and comfortable?
“it does sound better,” Jessica said admitting.
She was a very simple girl. She hated lies and complicated things. She was used to saying most things the way it was even if it made her vulnerable and at a point where she could be put in danger.
“I want to talk about my work,” Jessica said.
Her words piqued his interest. After all, discussing the work that she would do since she didn’t want to stay at home all day was an important discussion for them both. He knew that saying no to her would not work and she couldn’t do something that would embarrass him or put the family name back on the news just when they managed to take it off.Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
“What about it?” Xavier asked.
“Next week is my last week before resume back. You said I would get other options which I want to hear before I decide to let go of what I have” Jessica said.
She was happy that Xavier did not try to sell some stay-at-home mom bull shit to her. She would have had it down with him until she convinced him otherwise.
“My option is opening your restaurant,” Xavier said.
It was the best status in line with her job that would befit his status. He had tasted her food and she would do well.
“What?”
