Chapter 308
Chapter 308
What's wrong?
The driver saw that Arya was confused and asked, "Did I say something wrong?"
Arya shook her head and said, "It's okay."
Obviously, Jasper didn't call Xavier as the driver asked. If he did, Xavier would have known instead of
being informed by someone else.
Why did Jasper do that?
Arya couldn't figure it out.
She didn't eat the sugar-coated haws that Xavier bought for her. She turned to look at Xavier. "You
know that, right?"
Xavier was confused. Why did she ask this?
He looked at her inquiringly.
"On the day of the accident, you didn't receive any calls from Jasper, did you?" Arya asked faintly.
So that was what she was asking, but Xavier didn't answer.
The answer is not important now.
Arya wasn't stupid. She must know why Jasper didn't inform him. Jasper was being selfish at that time.
Arya did understand. But she was also disappointed.
She felt guilty for Jasper, but she didn't know how to face his selfishness that caused this tragedy.
Xavier held her hand. "Forget it, okay?"
Now that it was over, stop thinking about it.
Arya leaned against Xavier and felt relieved. She was not as guilty for Jasper as before after knowing
his selfish intentions.
She fell asleep.
Xavier didn't take her back home but to the company. There was a lounge in his office where Arya
could rest.
When they arrived at the company, Xavier carried Arya out of the car.
The receptionist looked straight at them. Xavier was holding Arya in his arms. Xavier was usually
indifferent in the company. Now treating a woman so gently made him look more charming.
A tall, rich, and handsome man was always attractive.
The two receptionists didn't look away until Xavier got into the elevator.
"That woman looks so happy."
The other receptionist glanced at her. "You're not that lucky. Let's get back to work."
She might be able to find a decent man if she worked hard.
Xavier put Arya down and covered her with the quilt. Seeing her sleep like a log, he went out of the
lounge and closed the door.
As he walked towards the desk, he took off his coat and threw it on the black leather sofa. Then he
called Jacob in.
Soon, Jacob came over.
When Xavier returned from abroad, he had already asked Jacob to investigate the Gates Family.
The Gates Family made trouble again and again. That was not a good time to deal with them back
then. But now, he didn't want to wait anymore although they still didn't have enough evidence.
Jacob had been busy investigating for a while, but the evidence he found was still not enough to bring
down the Gates Family.
"I need more time." Jacob lowered his head and said.
Xavier tugged at his collar impatiently and threw himself into the sofa. He understood that the
investigation was not easy. If the Gates Family was that easy to bring down, he would have done it long
ago.
"How long?"
Jacob didn't dare to promise. He was not sure.
Xavier looked up. What did he say last time?
How long had it been? No progress?
Jacob didn't dare to complain. Investigating the Gates Family was a punishment for not taking good
care of Arya. But he was not capable enough as he hadn't gathered enough evidence till now.
When Jacob was nervous, the door of the office was knocked on.
Xavier glanced at Jacob, and Jacob was silent.
"Come in." Xavier looked up and leaned back on the sofa comfortably.
The secretary walked in. "There's a Miss. Taylor wanting to see you." Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
Xavier raised his eyelids. Miss. Taylor?
Who?
Jacob guessed it was Georgina because he had received a call from her before. She asked to meet
Xavier, but Jacob refused.
He knew Xavier well and knew he wouldn't meet her.
She told him on the phone that she knew about the grudges between the Jones Family and the Gates
Family and that she knew Jacob was investigating the Gates Family. She had the evidence, but she
wanted to meet Xavier before she gave them the evidence.
Jacob was not stupid. She would not hand over the evidence so easily.
Although her relationship with Rufus was bad, she was still the daughter-in-law of the Gates Family.
Bringing down the Gates Family would not do her any good.
If she was willing to hand over the evidence, she must ask for something more.
So Jacob refused her request.
Jacob walked to Xavier and whispered, "It's Georgina."
Xavier raised his eyebrows. He recalled her. But it was a little surprising that she suddenly came to
visit.
"Just say I'm busy..."
Xavier didn't want to see her. But Georgina walked in herself. She wore a long dress, which displayed
her slim figure. Her hair spread over her shoulder. She was wearing light makeup, looking elegant and
graceful.
She smiled beautifully and her eyes curved. "I know you're busy. I won't take up much of your time."
Xavier didn't like this uninvited woman.
They didn't know each other at all.
"Hmm, Mr. Jones doesn't want to talk to me? We almost became husband and wife back then..." If
Xavier did not refuse the marriage, she would not marry Rufus, but Xavier.
Xavier smiled. "Did we?"
"Yes," Georgina said with a smile.
"Sorry, I never care about unimportant things." Xavier stood up and did not want to talk to her in the
office.
Georgina was not embarrassed and still smiled. "I heard that Mr. Jones loves your wife very much. It's
understandable that you forget me."
Jacob understood what Xavier meant. He waved to Georgina and said, "Miss Taylor, please follow me."
Georgina followed with a smile.
Xavier walked into the reception room, but Jacob didn't go in. After Georgina went in, he closed the
door.
"Go ahead." Georgina must visit him with an intention. Xavier was very outspoken.
Georgina smiled. "Mr. Jones is really direct. Why are you so sure that I have something to say?"
Xavier took a puff and said, "You can't come here to just talk with me?"
Xavier stood in front of the window, and the light reflected on his face, making his outline more resolute
and handsome as if it had been carved.
Georgina was a little distracted and said, "Of course not."
Xavier looked at her leisurely. "Tell me..."
Georgina looked up at him. "I know what you're investigating. I can help you."
Xavier smiled. "What are you talking about? How can you help me?"
Were they familiar?
She talked as if they were familiar.
Georgina said with certainty, "You want to bring down the Gates Family. I have the evidence that Mr.
Gates took bribes."
Xavier's expression changed, and he looked calm again. "What's your condition?"
