Chapter 36 His Possessive Nature
In that short minute, countless images flashed through her mind. The times Lewis ignored her, his coldness and indifference toward her, as well as the times he worried about her and smiled at her while patting her head.
As someone who didn’t love her, his coldness and indifference were expected. But it was exactly for that reason that she steadied her hand. Her hand holding the pen firmly, she put down her signature, penning every stroke that spelled out her name.
It was time she let him go and released him to the person he loved.
It was also time she set herself free, letting go of her desires and her secret love.
She only managed to sign her first name, when her pen suddenly slid off, leaving a long line on the divorce agreement. The next thing she knew, the divorce agreement was in Lewis‘ hands.
“Time’s up,” he said.
Josephine was taken aback and watched as he carelessly ripped the agreement in half, before throwing it into the trash can.
Lewis looked straight at her. “You’re out of chances, Josephine.”
Josephine didn’t know how to react. She could only look at him stunned, pen still in hand. She was at a loss.
Lewis stood up and walked right in front of her. Standing against the light, his shadow enveloped Josephine in darkness.
“Don’t ever let me see you sign those words again.”
Josephine looked at him, and her long lashes trembled. He bent over her and
propped himself up with one hand on the sofa, going so close to her that their lips were less than an inch apart. Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
“Did you hear me?” Lewis repeated.
She looked into his deep eyes, opened her mouth, then silently closed them again, not giving him a response. His gaze flickered, and he grabbed her by the neck. He didn’t use much force, and it looked inexplicably romantic.
“Did you hear me, Josie?” His voice was gentle, and he called her like he used to.
His gentle voice suddenly transported her to a place far away. In his eyes, it was as if she saw that young man smiling at her under the sun. That young man had called
her Josie too, his voice bewitching.
Josephine nodded unconsciously.
“Good girl.”
Lewis smirked, then kissed her on the lips while still bent over.
Josephine’s widened eyes met his. He was staring into her eyes as well, as if waiting for something. Like a game of chess, it seemed like he was waiting for his opponent to admit defeat. He also looked like a king waiting for his enemies to surrender.
Josephine looked away. In their battle that seemed like a century, she slowly closed her eyes, admitting defeat.
Lewis kissed her with more fervor, and Josephine reacted by putting her arms around his neck. He knew she was on her period and didn’t push things too far. However, every sexual thing that could be done, he did. He was not one to inconvenience himself.
Just like that, their agreed time frame of two weeks ended swiftly like a joke.
Josephine could hear his breath while he hugged her. She suddenly realized, every time she insisted on a divorce, it was just a farce to him.
She stroked her belly with her fingers, with Lewis‘ hand on hers, holding it tightly close to her stomach, His hand was so warm that she could feel his warmth even through her pajamas,
Her heart suddenly beat faster. She turned her head around but was unable to see his face in the pitch–black house. It was his steady breath that told her he must have fallen asleep. However, Josephine was unable to fall asleep that night. It was only when night turned to day that she finally fell asleep groggily.
When she woke up, the space beside her was empty. She sat up and saw her phone on the headboard. Looking at her phone, she found the battery fully charged, and it was already noon.
She hurriedly got out of bed, changed, and went to the hospital.
While she registered at the counter, she wanted to send a text to Avery asking her to lend her some money. Instead, she saw an incoming transfer notification from Lewis and opened it up. It wasn’t much, but he was transferring fifty thousand dollars to her.
Josephine hesitated. Thinking of how she only had two dollars left and could not even pay for the registration, she grudgingly accepted the transfer.
When Lewis heard the notification ring, he glanced at his phone and saw that Josephine had accepted his transfer. He unconsciously smiled at those two words-” Transfer Accepted“.
Conrad came in after knocking, bringing a pile of documents with him to Lewis.”
President Alvarez, this is from the security footage last night. We have found the two men.”
Lewis received the file and took out the pictures, his expression darkening as he looked through them.
There were no security cameras near the bridge. Although the pictures were taken from a further place and were blurry, he could figure out what happened.
Conrad started grumbling inwardly again. He really thought Lewis wasn’t interested in Josephine’s safety since he refused to receive his calls last night. He had been working for Lewis for a long time. While he wasn’t sure about anything else, he was clear on matters regarding Josephine. Although Lewis seemed unconcerned toward Josephine and liked bullying her, as long as someone who wasn’t him had their eyes on her, his possessive nature would jump out.
Lewis threw the pictures on the table. “Where are they?”
“We have them locked up. How should we deal with them? Do we pass them to the police, or…”
Lewis stood up from his chair. “I’m going to have a look.”
Conrad immediately brought Lewis to where the two thugs were locked up.
Lewis was brought to a mansion on a remote hillside. The drive up alone would take more than ten minutes, and this was the only mansion up this huge hillside. If it wasn’t for this mansion, the road leading up here would not even be paved.
In the backyard of the mansion were a few beasts. Even before entering, one could hear the noise from inside–dogs barking and wolves howling. Going in, snakes could be seen held in a transparent box, as well as crocodiles.
This wasn’t Conrad’s first time here, but he was terrified every time he came. To him, this wasn’t a mansion, it was a zoo.
Surrounded by cages, two men lay in an empty space in the middle. They were terrified by the noises the dogs and wolves were making toward them..
Both men were shaking when suddenly, the noise quieted down. The beasts sat down as if they sensed something, wagging their tails and sticking out their tongues in excitement.
The two men swallowed and followed their line of sight. What they saw was a tall figure walking toward them. The man was wearing a suit with a brown overcoat that accentuated his figure, making his legs noticeably longer.
Lewis walked toward the two men, sizing up the both of them without expression. Those emotionless eyes looked at them as if they were mere ants.
“Bo…boss, I don’t think we’ve offended you, did we?” In front of the man’s dominating presence, the thug’s voice shook while he spoke.
Lewis squatted in front of the two men and asked indifferently, “Do you know who I am?”
Both of them shook their heads in unison. “No, we don’t. Why did you capture us?”
Lewis smirked and held out his hand. Conrad understood and placed a dagger over his palm.
“Why did I capture you?” Lewis gave them a kind smile. “Let me refresh your memory.
His smile filled the both of them with fear. As thugs, it was the first time they really understood what it meant to smile with murderous intent.
