Chapter 15
Adelie POV
Waking up very early in the morning to find myself alone in the room gives me so much freedom and the chance to do my things how I do them on normal days. It's 5am, and I still have much time to get ready for work. Sitting up on the bed, I run my fingers through my hair tiredly, like I should just go back to sleep. I couldn't sleep well last night since I was a bit uncomfortable with Asher in the same room as me. I was scared he might harm me in my sleep, or maybe force himself on me. I know it's unfair to think that of him, but for someone who does all those dirty things with me as his sister, I doubt if there's anything else he's not capable of, or if he's not capable of doing worse. My phone starts ringing, and even if I haven't checked yet who the person is, I know that it's Raymond.. I'm really putting that dude through a lot, and I feel guilty for the things I'm doing to him. I answer his call this time because it'll be so unfair to ignore him again.
"Hey, good morning," He sounds a bit sad, which I understand very well. It was all my fault.
"Good morning, baby. Did you sleep well?" I just said that to bail myself out, though I know it's not fair, and it worked.
"Yes, I did. What about you?" His voice sounds bright this time, and I sigh briefly. He doesn't deserve all this from me. Raymond is a good man that doesn't deserve to be treated this way.
"Yes," I reply to him.
"I'm sorry for calling so early, I just want to make sure that you're fine," He explains to me, and I nod my head as if he can see me.
"I know. I'll be at the office soon. See you then," I say to him and quickly end the call because of the footsteps I'm hearing from outside. I wouldn't want Asher to come to interrupt our call again, so I better end it before he comes in. As expected, the door barges open, and he walks in with a deep frown on his face.
"Who were you on phone with?" He asks angrily like a jealous boyfriend, and I gulp down nothing.
"Ca... Call? When was that?" I try not to sound suspicious as I deny his question, because how the hell did he know that I was on a call with someone?
He stares at me with that usual angry look on his face that always terrifies me, and I am starting to get moved again by his glares.
"Stop looking at me like that, it's scary," I quickly turn my face away, and I hear him sigh.
"I came to tell you that I'm leaving home now. I'll be back in the evening, so take care of yourself," He says to me, and without sparing me another second, he turns to leave.
"Where are you going again?" I ask him, and stops on his track as he tilts his head to look at me with his eyebrows squinted. Did I ask the question I wasn't supposed to? I mean, he has been acting weird lately, going out early in the morning and coming back late, it's only right that I get curious and asks what's happening, right?
"I'll be back early today, don't worry," He replies to me before he pulls the door open and storms out of my room, slamming the door behind him that I end up flinching.
'Where the hell is he going again? What is wrong with him? Why's he acting weird?' I ask myself as I stare at the closed door. I finally shrug and drag myself from the bed, heading to the bathroom afterward.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
It takes me about two hours to get ready for work, and after I have breakfast, I finally leave for the office.
As expected, I was held up in a traffic jam for about twenty minutes before I finally was able to drive to the company. The drive to the company though was delayed by the traffic, but I still managed to arrive at the usual time. All thanks to leaving home earlier than usual.
Stepping into my office about five minutes later, I sigh briefly in relief since Raymond is not yet in the office. I'm scared of facing him, or maybe I'm nervous rather. I'm still thinking of how to explain what happened yesterday to him, and knowing he would be feeling bad about the way I'm treating him, I can't help but feel nervous and guilty.
Still trying to figure out how to apologize to him later, the door suddenly opens with him walking in elegantly graced in a black suit, looking as handsome as always. My heart sinks into my stomach as soon as he stops in front of my desk. "Good morning, Ray..." My voice is low that I doubt if he heard me. Although he already told me to always address him by his name whenever we are alone, but now that I know I hurt him, I don't know if to be formal with him, or still address him the way he instructed me to.
"Good morning baby. Did you sleep well?" He smiles at me as if nothing happened, and this is getting me freaked out now.
"Yes, I did... About yesterday... I'm sorry I rushed off just like that. I got a call that my brother was in danger, so I had to rush out to reach him," I explain to him, speaking confidently even though I know that these are all lies. "You should've told me about it..."
"I didn't want to bother you about it, that was why I left," I cut him off, and he rolls his eyes.
"Come on, Adelie. You are my girlfriend now, and I should take responsibility for whatever happens in your family. I was so worried sick about you yesterday, I thought that I did something that got you reacting that way... I would've come over to your house, but I felt you wanted to be alone, which was why I didn't come over," He replies to me, and I slowly nod my head.
"You have to tell me if anything is bothering you in the future, ok? You can't always keep things to yourself like that, do you get it?" He further says, and I slowly nod my head, feeling guilty about the whole thing. To think that I still get him to feel bad for me knowing that I'm hurting him with my actions, just how much of a bad person I am?
"Hmm," I force a smile at him, and he returns the smile.
"By the way, you look beautiful as always. You smell nice too," He winks at me, and I blush hard. "Now, you look prettier when you blush," He further says, and I feel my head swelling proudly. "Thank you. You look cute too," I reply to him, even if it sounds a bit weird.
"Wow! It's the first time my baby is going to compliment me, and I think I'm blushing hard now," He chuckles softly as he cups his cheeks in his palms. He looks cute when he does that, and I can't deny it. If you ask me who amongst him Asher is cuter, then I would be left in dilemma, because fuck! I don't know who's more handsome.
"Let's have lunch together later, okay?" He says to me, and I quickly nod my head.
"Sure, I'll be glad," I reply to him.
"Alright ma'am, I'll be in my office," He teases me before he finally walks into his company, and I sigh in relief...
