Surprise
Marco immediately halted his hand’s movement upon hearing the sudden news from his subordinate. “What? She’s working?” exclaimed Marco, looking at Haris with an expression of displeasure.
“Didn’t I clearly say that I didn’t want her to do anything that would endanger herself? Just stay quiet in her cramped apartment, and you watch over her, that’s all, but you couldn’t even do that,” Marco said, leaving Haris only able to nod.
“I apologize, Sir, but Miss Letta really can’t be stopped so easily. But don’t worry, I’ve instructed two guards to watch over Miss Letta,” Haris said, making Marco sigh in frustration.
“Still, she’s not following what I want. You should know that if I want something, you should make it happen,” Marco added, making Haris apologize once again. Both of them had stubborn personalities that were difficult to contend with, causing Haris to rue his fate for being caught between them.
“Nevertheless, I’ve already threatened her with this, but it hasn’t yielded results. Instead, Miss Letta told me to inform you that if you want her to stop, you have to stop her yourself,” Haris said, furrowing Marco’s brow.
“Do I have to stop her? You know how much work I have here. That’s why I postponed the wedding for a month. Otherwise, I might have already dragged her into the ‘Golden Cage’ that I prepared,” Marco said, taking a long sigh. Yes, it seemed that Haris wouldn’t succeed in persuading Letta to quit her new job, thought Marco.
“Fine, since it’s already done, tell your subordinates that they must report every action of Letta. I don’t want that reckless woman to endanger my future child,” Marco said, making Haris nod before leaving the room.
Marco then roughly rubbed his face because this sudden job had caused him to postpone his wedding. If not, he would have had the reins to tightly bind Letta so she wouldn’t be able to act recklessly.
“I should have just had a simple wedding before I went away,” Marco said. After that, he refocused on his work, but once again, a few minutes later, when Marco moved his fingers over the keyboard of his flat screen, someone interrupted him. His phone rang, and this time Marco didn’t feel bothered because it was his fiancee, Arabella, on the line.
“Hello, honey?” Marco answered with a sweet voice.
“Hello, is your work overwhelming?” asked Arabella from the other end. Marco looked at the flat screen in front of him, filled with many documents that needed to be reviewed, not to mention the incoming emails that had to be checked one by one, making Marco take a long breath.
“Yes, very much. Why do you ask?” Marco replied.
“No, I was just wondering. What time will you have lunch today?” Arabella asked again, making Marco look at his wristwatch.
“As usual, in about two hours,” Marco said.
“Alright then,” Arabella said.
“What about you, what are you up to? Are you busy?” Marco asked.
“To amuse you, the word ‘busy’ doesn’t exist for me. I miss you,” Arabella said, making Marco smile widely.
“I miss you too, honey,” Marco said, making Bella laugh on the other end.
“Oh, I’ll give you something special for lunch in two hours,” Bella said.
“What is it? Now I’m curious,” Marco said, turning his chair towards the large window showing the density of the city of Paris.
“I won’t tell you now, so it’ll be a surprise in the next two hours. It seems I have to go now, so I’ll hang up,” Arabella said, to which Marco agreed.
When their call ended, Marco immediately looked back at his phone screen, where a picture of him and Arabella served as his main wallpaper, making Marco smile broadly at Arabella’s sweet smile.
However, for some reason, the face that suddenly appeared in Marco’s mind made him slightly pause.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“What was that?” Marco asked himself.
“Why is she suddenly in my thoughts?” Marco muttered. After that, he shook his head and turned his chair back.
“Maybe it’s because of her misbehavior. That’s why I’m still thinking about her,” Marco continued, trying to convince himself that Letta was on his mind because she wasn’t following his orders. Before refocusing on his work, Marco eagerly anticipated the special gift Arabella would give him at lunch.
“Alright, let’s start focusing,” Marco said, and he worked hard until lunchtime arrived. When his secretary came to remind him, Marco decided to have lunch in his office.
“I’ll have my lunch in my office, so please prepare the food for me and bring it to my office,” Marco said, making Adel, his secretary, nod. Marco looked back at his flat screen before someone knocked on the door, and Marco invited the person in. He was sure it was his subordinate bringing him lunch.
“You can put the lunch on the table,” Marco said without looking at the attendant. Marco could only hear the clinking of plates and some other utensils being placed on the table.
“When you’re done, you can leave,” Marco added.
“So you’re shooing me away?” someone replied, making Marco raise his head as he recognized the melodious voice.
“Honey, you’re here?” Marco asked, straightening his posture and walking towards Arabella, who was beaming at him.
“A surprise,” Arabella said, making Marco walk over to Arabella and hug her.
“So this is the surprise you gave me?” Marco asked, to which Arabella nodded.
“Of course, didn’t I say I missed you? So I chose to follow you to this country. Besides, I also have a schedule in this fashion country,” Arabella said, making Marco embrace his fiancee again.
“I missed you. Luckily you came. So I can relax now,” Marco said.
“Yes, but you’d better release the hug first because I’m hungry. So we’d better have lunch together, how about that?” Arabella asked, making Marco nod. He was about to lead Arabella to sit on the sofa with the meal already set on the table.
“But I don’t want to have lunch in this room full of documents. I want to have lunch outside. How about that?” Arabella asked, which, of course, Marco couldn’t refuse. Marco couldn’t refuse his fiancee’s wishes at least, so he quickly got ready and hurried to have lunch with Arabella outside the office.
