Chapter 17: A Balance
Chapter 17: A Balance
Danica pulled me in for a hug and had a smile on her face. She just looked at me as if she's expecting
me to say something but what could I say? Here I was again. Where are we?
I looked around. The hallways here are always dark although there are small ceiling lights they're just
very dim. Danica and I stood in front of a classroom, some students entered the class while we waited
on God knows what.
"You seem a little lost," she spoke.
I was. Will this become a habit? I just wanted to know where we are.
"I am, Danica. I don't know what's happening,"
Danica gently grabbed my arm and pulled me into the classroom. There was this one large desk that
stood out, it stood in the middle of the classroom with the other desks packed around it. It was painted
green and had green cushions for comfort. Danica sat down on one side and patted the other side as
she looked at me.
Everyone around me stared curiously. I wondered what that was about and took a seat next to her.
Some students began whispering which made Danica frown a little. She cleared her throat and placed
her bag on the seat and took out a book.
She glanced at me sideways and doodled circles in her notebook right until the teacher came in. It was
an older woman with a real witchy appearance, I mean she has a humpback with the whole pointy This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
arched crooked nose with a mole next to it and her wild brittle white hair. She raised her hand to silence
the class and they instantly did.
"She's twenty-five years old," whispered Danica.
"Class. I'm Routa, and I'll be teaching you everything about the perfect balance between good and evil.
Between wrong and right between the dark world and the light. This place is different from beyond the
fog wall, each student is currently is having the same subject but in different classrooms. I'll be your
personal teacher up until you graduate and be teaching you everything you know,"
I leaned into Danica's ear, "what does she mean?"
"Sshh..."
Miss Routa's eyes fell on mine. She stared at me until I felt guilt consume me. I gulped and looked at
the desk and only looked up once I could feel her eyes, not on me.
"Take out your wands!"
We all listened and took out our wands, we held it in our hands that we're most comfortable in doing
magic with and awaited for further instruction. Miss Routa picked up her wand that laid on the desk and
looked at the class.
"E-Sha Buhee," she swirled her wand and a tiny sun appeared and soon after a black moon. The two
danced around each other and merged. Then a light grey cloud appeared and hovered in mid-air. "This
is the most important spell you could learn. It plays a big role in who we are. There are many witches,
so there are various career paths and there are many who play different roles. Our role is holding
Meledsan together because without us it could rip apart or particles of it could collide and shut tight.
Like Ka'vu's kingdom is hidden from the rest of Meledsan. Say the spell until you can hear yourself
saying it correctly,"
"E-Sha Buhee," the whole class repeated. At first, I was reluctant but what could the harm be? So I
joined in and once we got the hang of it Miss Routa raised her hand again. We all instantly kept quiet
and she nodded her head.
"I would love to show a live demonstration of this spell,"
She walked over to a cupboard and took out a tray and placed it on her desk. She looked at the class.
She touched the tray and half of it started changing, green grass started growing and an ocean
appeared. The sun was out and it glowed. Some animals native to Meledsan walked around but started
dying. It is well known that when the dimension was split up the bright sunshine side formally known as
Mele was very bright and warm that it killed the native animals. They burned out. The only animals that
can survive in that weather are the ones from other magical worlds.
Miss Routa touched the other half of the tray and it also formed life. The dark side which was 'San, the
ocean appeared and so did the grass and trees but soon the water dried up and the greenery withered.
There was nothing but cold which also caused other native animals to die. Crime also raised on that
side since the people could not be seen due to all the consuming darkness. In the middle of the two
sides, however, it met and the sky is dark grey. This is the centre of Meledsan, this is the current state
of where the academy is. I also thankfully live in that border.
"Now, let's say the spell again this time while swirling our wands,"
We did as she asked and watched the tray. A wind blew over the tray and when it stopped the tray
expanded and hidden places came out from everywhere. Underneath the ground, from the sky, from
the ocean and from inside other places and from empty fields. The weather became normal. She told
us to feel the normal temperature and see how the animals revived and lived in peace with nature.
"That's our roles as grey witches. Black and white witches are too busy conflicting to keep a healthy
balance and it's our jobs to take care of ourselves and everyone else as well as Meledsan. Now, I know
most of us are selfish and most of us feel like doing the right thing but just end up doing the wrong
thing, and that's what makes us different. It's not black or white with us so we can look in from the
outside."
