The Mafia Bride (Katrina and Silas)

Chapter 16

Katrina's POV

My heart thumped louder than ever as I waited for what Silas would say. I beg

He wasn't going to let this man take me, would he?

him with my eyes to do something

I didn't know what their relationship was, but I hoped he wouldn't pur Silas in a fix where Silas would have to let me go.

I would rather remain here as a maid than be someone's toy.

"And besides. Since when do you like younger girls? She's like hall your age and could easily pass as your daughter. Let her come to me. The man waved his fat hands in his face, smiling a though he gave a valid argument.

I could easily pass as Silas' daughter. The man speaking was fat and short. He was balding right in the middle of his head and had grey strands of hair scattered all over

While Silas was talking and studying, his black hair had grey streaks, but it only added to his charms.

They were opposites and he dared to say that I could pass as Silas daughter.

"Didn't you hear her when she said she was my wife? Silas' voice held so much authority that it made me shudder.

For a moment, I was relieved; my heart beat slowly down because of his words. But my relief was tangled with confusion as questions swarmed through my mind.

Why did Silas defend me? He had just agreed that I was his wife in front of all these people, does that mean anything?

It seems to be one of his games and I wouldn't be doing myself any good by letting my hopes come up.

His grey eyes pierced into the man, making himn move awkwardly m his seat.

He seemed to have expected Silas to let him have me, and I was happy he didn't.

"If you don't value your life, I dare you to covet what's mine once more," Silas' voice was cold and I let out a sigh of relief.

"But Silas-"The man started but Silas pinned him down with a stare.

"Take her inside Rachael,"

Rachael only needed to be told once before she pulled me away her grip on my arm tight. Tobediently followed as she dragged me, not wanting to be with them any longer.

The moment we were out of sight, she pulled me in front of her, raising her hands

Her hand cane sien in my cheek with so much force it turned my face to the sound.

The slap came hard and fast, the sting spreading across my cheek like fire.

I could feel my head throbbing as I staggered back, subconsciously reaching for my aching cheek.

Rachael's cold eyes watched me, daring me to fight back. But I couldn't. Not here, not now.

"Are you insane?" She hissed, stepping towards me. I took a step back, raising my hands to cover my face.

It was merely a reflex action as I had expected her to attempt to hit me once more.

I couldn't even say anything because I knew I probably deserved that,

"Each of the men in that room is an important figure. Way more important than you are. Are you forgetting that you're merely a mas? How could you storm up to the boss that way with such insolence," She grabbed my hair tied behind, pulling it down forcefully and making me look up.

"I don't know why Boss Silas allows you to walk around like this, you don't even deserve the role of a maid. But you're going

to go back to him and get on your knees, do you understand? Her words held finality, her eyes piercing through me.

She didn't expect me to light back and I hit into the inside of my heck

When I showed no signs of agreeing to what she said, her grip on my hair tightened, and my eyes watered.

"You would answer me when I speak, or else you wouldn't like the state you'd see yourself in, she threatened, pulling my hair. further down.

I immediately bobbed my hair, forcing the words out of my lips.

Yes. I understand."

Immediately, I agreed; she let go of me, stepping away like she hadn't just tried to pull my hair out.

I would send you to his office when his guests are gone, for now you shall come with me and I'd show you

She walked off, and I trialed behind her once more, cursing the day I stepped foot into this house.

to do,

We walked into the kitchen and everyone paused what they were doing, staring at me with the same look on their faces.

"What are you girls waiting for? Continue immediately, Rachael barked and they did as she said.

"Alisa, come here," Rachael called out to someone and she immediately walked to us,

"This is Katrina, she'd be with you for the whole of today. Show her the ropes of things

Alisa immediately bobbed her head, stepping beside me,

Rachael looked between us both before nodding her head, turning around and leaving.

Alisa had a straight as she stared at me, giving me a once over.

It was no secret that the people here don't like me so I expected her to be snotty.

Instead of the rude introduction I expected, Alisa pulled her hand out in front of her, her lips pulling into a bright smile.

"Ti,

i, nice to meet you," she said, sounding chirpy with her face glowing.

You know all these characters in books which the authors describe with too much emphasis on how blinding their aura was. This was she.

I resisted the urge to squint my eyes due to how bright her smile was, taking her hands in mine.

Im Katrina," I answered.

"Oh, I know. We all know. Everyone talks about you." She motioned to the other females in the room, who stared at me with hostile eyes. Something told me that they wouldn't be as accommodating as Alisa was

"Say, Katrina. One of the girls called as she sashayed towards me Her hips swung dramatically and I couldn't help but roll

my eyes

She seems like trouble.

The eye roll didn't go unnoticed by Alisa as she giggled, squeezing my hand which was now by our sides.

Realizing that we still held hands even tho we weren't shaking anymore, I immediately pulled my hand away from her grip.

The girl circled me like I was her prey, her eyes never leaving me for a second.

"What's an over-pampered princess like you doing in a place like this? Can't handle the real world, can you?" Her smile was venomous, but her words fell flat like a weak punch Her insult was so plain, and I shook my head in disappointment.

If someone wanted to insult me, they should have at least been more creative

Over pampered princess? Really? That's the best she could come up with.

I was just about to speak when Alisa stepped in between us, making the girl back away.

Okay, Veronica. Let's not forget that when the madam isn't available, I'm in charge."

I couldn't help but notice the threat in Alisa's voice and I smirked.

Who knew that she would have it in her?

She was small and cute. She didn't seem like the type that would threaten someone with her position.

Standing at five foot five, I was still a few inches taller than Alisa was. Her back hair was tied into a messy bun and her blue doe eyes stared up at Veronica with authority.

Scoffing, Veronica threw her hands up and sent a glare my way. She immediately turned away, walking back to where she came from with her hips swaying the same way they did earlier

Alisa immediately turned to me with an apologetic look, her fingers linked together.

"I'm sorry about that. The girls around here don't like you, cause of you know, Who your father is

I knew that, but how could mere maids not like me because of who my father was? What business do they have with the mafia except for serving Silas?

"If you ask me. I know they are just being this way cause the boss doesn't like you and there's finally someone for them to pick on. Being in the lowest food chain and finally finding someone lower than you can cause things like this. But I wouldn't do that tho. I have nothing against you. I want to be really good friends with you, you seem cool,"

I watched Alisa humorously as she rambled on, a small smile finding its way to my lips.

Alisa's words tumbled out in a rush, the brightness on her face never once fading. She seemed like someone I could trust, and I wanted to believe that I could trust her.

But in this place, trust was a luxury I couldn't afford. I needed to watch my back just in case of anything.

"Oh, my gosh. I'm so sorry for rambling. I have something I need to do now well we have something we need to do now since Madam Rachael asked me to show you how we do things. And if we dongyhet moving now, she shouldn't like it," Alisa cut herself off her lips pulled open in shock

I wanted to tell her that it was okay and I didn't mind, but she instantly started talking about what we needed to do.

"Grab that tray; we need to gas serve Boss Silas and his guests first Alisa said, and the smile on my f ""What

My heart sank like a stone as Alisa stared at me, her excited expression contrasting with my shocked one.

I had just left that place a few minnes ago, and now I was expected to go back and serve them?

Alisa handed me a tray and I took it with shaky fingers. My stomach twisted as I stared at the tray.

I didn't want to face Silas and his guest, especially since I was asked to apologize to Silas and I still have no plans of doing that yet.

Blissfully unaware of my inner turmoil. Alisa mudged me towards the door with a smile on her face.

Slowly, I walked towards the door. My heart raced as though every step I took towards the door was a step closer to my undoing.
