Chapter 65
KAEL.
The moment the gun fired, I knew I couldn't just keep running. I was sure my wolf could fight off the bullet as long as it was not silver, but it could be fatal for Adessa.
She stopped screaming, but her legs and arms around me were in a vice grip, and despite my movement, I could feel her body shaking. I knew it wouldn't be long before her tiredness and fear could take over, and she might eventually slip and fall from my back. I had to do something.
I made an abrupt turn to the right, navigating a narrow path that would make it hard for a car to follow but still possible, especially since they were prepared for this and were driving a Jeep Wrangler.
The thing with this forest is that the trees grew with wide spaces between them, so a hardcore car could definitely just sweep over those little bushes here and there.
I stopped running when there was already a great distance between us, and I couldn't see them. I immediately lowered my body to the ground, and Adessa slid down from my back.
I instantly transitioned into my human form and assisted her in removing the duffel bag from her back.
"You need to run as far as you can," I told her.
"No..." She shook her head. "Not without you."
"I can't concentrate while you're around. I need to make sure you're safe. Run as far as you can, and I will come for you. I will find you."
Her eyes watered, but she was trying to hold herself together.
"You need to do this. If I can't find you, you need to go on the journey on your own. I already told you how to get there and what to do next." I added. "Please..."
"Go, now. No more questions."
"Kael,"
"Your Alpha is ordering you to do this!" I snapped at her.
Before she could say anything more, I moved away and shifted into my wolf. I growled loudly toward her, baring my fangs at her.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
Tears fell from her eyes, but she stood up and, without saying anything, turned her back to me and ran toward the direction I pointed, with her arms clutching her backpack tightly.
Once she was out of my sight, I made my move and ran forward, returning to the path I had taken before we got here. I couldn't hear any cars approaching, but I could hear heartbeats. They got out of the car as well.
Four heartbeats.
The moment they felt my presence, one wolf immediately launched at me, and my paws caught him midair. We rolled over to the ground as the other two jumped at us, but they couldn't keep up with our rolling bodies. One of the four was missing.
The thought of him running after Adessa gave me the push I needed. I clawed the eyes of the wolf on top of me, eliminating his vision in an instant before I kicked him off me.

His body slammed on the nearby tree, and others immediately went for me once I was freed of the first A tooth sank onto my shoulder, eliciting a loud howl of pain from my wolf, but instead of trying to get him offme, I tilted my head and sank my teeth into his exposed neck.
I ripped his skin in a matter of seconds, and he abruptly let go of my shoulder. But before he could move away from me, my paws had already made their way to his chest, clawing and piercing through his skin until they were deep enough to catch his heart, ripping it from his body.
Another bite came from my hips, and my foot kicked him off me. I had always had a strong kick, so it didn't surprise me that the fucker flew far from where I was. My only mistake was that I threw him in the direction where Adessa headed off. And it seemed he smelled her. He chose to ignore me and pursue her instead.
"Fuck!" I growled in my head at the same time my wolf growled out loud. We could have followed him right away, but the first one I threw off came attacking me. Our wolves fought in the air and on the ground, but his size and strength were nothing compared to my Alpha wolf, and in no time, his head was already
rolling off the ground.
Then, I felt another movement behind me.
I swiveled my body and found him across the other side, still in his human form and holding a gun, covering himself behind a tree. My shoulder was hurting, and so were my hips, but I had to keep moving.
I sprang forward, ready to take him, when he fired a shot at me and hit my already wounded shoulder.
My body jolted, and an earth-shattering growl ripped my throat, but I didn't let the pain stop me from springing forward in his direction. He shot another fire but missed. He continued to shoot until I heard a single click, but nothing came out of his gun. He ran out of bullets.
My legs were wobbling, but I pushed all my energy to reach the tree. Knowing he had no weapons against me, the coward turned around and ran away. He leaped in the air, ready to shift into his wolf, but even before he could transform, I was already leaping behind him. I grabbed his human body and, without any restraint, ripped him to pieces, only stopping when I remembered Adessa and the other wolf trailing her.
ADESSA.
I had two choices. Either I cried and begged Kael to let me stay with him, or I got up on my ass and did as I was told so he could do what he needed to do.
I chose the latter.
Even with a heavy heart, I put my big girl pants on again and sprang forward to the unknown, clutching the bag that could help me face the King-even without Kael.
Tears continued to streak down my cheeks as I kept running, not minding the branches and twigs scratching my skin. I had to keep my faith that Kael would survive he always did.
I could hear growls and grunts from a distance, and the earth would shake from time to time. It must be him fighting with other wolves.
"Please, keep him safe..." I continued to pray until a loud gunshot ripped through the air, followed by an earth-shattering howl of pain, stopping me abruptly from running and making me stumble on the ground.
I held my breath, listening for more. Then, more gunshots rang out, causing my eyes to flood with tears.
"No!" I screamed and turned my body around, pushing myself up. I was on the verge of running back to him when I noticed a wolf approaching from a distance, heading in my direction.
It was not Kael's wolf. Someone found me.
