Chapter 125 Drowning

"Do you want to answer the phone?" Ranita calmly handed the decision over to Brendon.

The ringtone kept ringing and showed no sign of stopping.

As expected, and unexpected, the phone rang. Ranita's lips curled into a sarcastic smile. "You better answer it, what if it's an emergency?"

Brendon emotionlessly reached for his phone and answered. It wasn't Shannon on the other end, but Holly.

"Brendon, Shannon accidentally fell into the artificial lake and drowned..."

"What happened? How did she drown?" Brendon's face darkened as he asked while anxiously running his hand through his hair.

"I don't know! She was in a bad mood and feeling lost so I went for a walk with her. Next thing I knew she was feeding fish when she suddenly fell into the water... Shannon can't swim and choked on water."

Ranita didn't hear what else was said as Brendon hung up the phone with a serious expression. "Something happened to Shannon, I need to go to the hospital."

"I'll send someone over to take care of you."

What would be the point if it wasn't Brendon?

Ranita calmly straightened her clothes and forced out a bland smile towards him. "No need, I can take care of myself."

"Miss Murphy drowning is no small matter; you should leave now."

Brendon looked at Ranita with deep-set eyes before pursing his thin lips but ultimately left in haste.

Sigh...

Ranita felt sad inside.

Barely had Brendon left when Dylan arrived at her apartment in haste calling out her name, "Ranita! Why did you come back alone? You didn't even call me!"

Her complexion wasn't great - pale with dark circles under her eyes from lack of sleep.

Dylan felt sorry for her, "How did Brendon take care of you? Your face looks worse than yesterday!" He paused then asked hesitantly, "Did he make things difficult for you?" Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.

"No," Ranita shook her head.

"But your expression says otherwise? You look like crying or feeling lost..." Dylan mercilessly exposed how she really felt pushing another thorn deeper into Ranita's heart that already hurt enough.

"Okay, have rest! What do you want for lunch? I'll make something."

"Anything works!" replied Ranita casually before falling asleep under light covers due to exhaustion.

At the hospital...

"Brendon! You finally came!" Holly had swollen eyes from crying too much. "Shannon is terrified of water; just falling in made her faint..."

"Don't cry anymore. Let me have someone send you back home." After arranging everything for Holly's departure, Brendon pushed open VIP ward doors where Shannon lay unconscious on bed...

Shannon's face was pale and her lips were the same. When she saw Brendon's delicate face, two clear tears immediately fell down her cheeks. Her voice was hoarse and full of self-blame, "Brendon... I'm sorry..."

"Don't cry, your eyes are swollen." Brendon sighed and reached out to rub Shannon's head.

"... Woo woo..." Shannon still couldn't stop crying, "Brendon, it's all my fault... I didn't mean to, I didn't mean to disturb you and Ranita... I just... I just..."

Shannon bit her pale lips hard, leaving a trace of blood. She grabbed Brendon's arm with a distressed expression and said weakly, "I just can't stand you being intimate with Ranita."

"I know I shouldn't be jealous, you haven't officially divorced Ranita yet and intimacy between spouses is normal... but my heart is really hurting, the impact on me is too great... I know I don't have the right to feel this way, but I can't control my heart, it's breaking..."
