Chapter 265
Chapter 265
Ronan's car pulled up in front of an upscale Western-style restaurant. Cordelia, with her hand on her
hip, followed behind Ronan.
"You're sure you're not eating?" Ronan began to order.
"Um, could I just have a lemon water, please?" Cordelia politely asked the waiter.
Ronan ordered a portion of foie gras, a serving of caviar, a medium-rare steak, a plate of sushi, a
vegetable salad, and a small dessert. Since it was the holiday season, Ronan ate leisurely, without a
worry in the world. "Are you sure you don’t want some?" Ronan asked her again.
"Yes. Not hungry," Cordelia replied absentmindedly, while flipping through her chat history with Jamie
on her phone. She hadn't had a chance to read it yet.
[Cordelia, Kent is Marian's father, a wealthy man who knows my father. I suspect they've planned all
this together. I know it’s hard for you to stay at First Enterprises. If you stay, things will only get worse.
I've talked to Brenda, you can go to PrimeNumbers Accounting. I still have a 20% stake there. I'll
probably leave First Enterprises sooner or later. Our partnership has failed in just a few months.]
Cordelia didn't respond.
Brenda also sent Cordelia a message. [Cordelia, come work with me. What does Kent think he is? Just
because he has some money, he thinks he's all that? Marian's always wanted to make a name for
herself in the company, but you, with your undergraduate degree, are doing better than her. She's
jealous of you. It's embarrassing for her to tell people that her boss is a year younger and an
undergraduate. So she came up with this rotten plan."
Cordelia replied, [I know, Brenda. I'm pregnant now and I just want to take care of myself. I don't want
to think about the company anymore.]
[Reach out if you need anything.]
Cordelia. [Okay.]
Cordelia didn't want to return to First Enterprises, nor did she want to go to PrimeNumbers Accounting.
Both places held bad memories for her. Brenda's words were a comfort to her. She just wanted to study
abroad now. But the offer from UC Davis hadn't arrived yet. Though not a lot of time had passed,
Cordelia was anxious. She sent Jamie a message. [I'm giving you my email account and password.
Can you find someone to check it for me? What if the mail gets lost?]
Jamie replied with a single word. [Okay.] Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Cordelia knew Jamie wouldn't reply so soon, but she was so anxious that her hand was continuously
stroking her phone.
"Do you want a piece of cake?" Ronan asked Cordelia.
"Pregnant women shouldn't eat sweets," Cordelia said offhandedly.
"Why?" Ronan didn't understand.
"Eating sweets can make the baby too big, which can cause stress for pregnant women. We need to
strictly control our blood sugar. If the baby grows too large, it could lead to complications during birth,"
Cordelia explained, seemingly distracted.
"Really?" he asked.
"Yes."
"Do you feel nauseous seeing all this food?" Ronan asked Cordelia.
Cordelia shook her head.
"Have you been throwing up a lot since you got pregnant?" Ronan asked again. He suddenly seemed
interested in her pregnancy.
"I don't think I've thrown up at all. The baby's very well-behaved," Cordelia said, lowering her gaze to
her stomach, and gently stroked it.
Ronan frowned slightly.
After drinking two glasses of lemon water, Cordelia needed to use the restroom. Ronan called a
waitress to accompany her. She didn't want Ronan to look at her phone, so she took it with her.
On her way back from the restroom, she received a message from Jamie. [Cordelia, UC Davis sent you
an offer on New Year's Eve at 9 p.m. US time, but it was deleted. I've restored it for you. Check it out.]
Cordelia's heart skipped a beat. When she saw the offer, she was almost jumping with joy. But how did
the email get deleted from her inbox?
That day, Ronan was sleeping next to her, and she was asleep. Suddenly, a surge of anger rushed
through Cordelia's body and head, making her feel dizzy. She sat down on the couch by the restroom.
Ronan breaking her pendant, being fired by Kent, and now finding out that her mail was deleted by
Ronan, Cordelia was extremely upset.
He was really something!
Cordelia's face turned red with anger, and she started to feel a cramping sensation in her stomach.
"Miss, are you alright?" the waitress asked, noticing Cordelia's face turning pale, and quickly ran to
fetch Ronan.
