Chapter 136
Chapter 136
Cordelia spent the night buzzing with excitement, not feeling a lick of tiredness the next day. She was
afraid that her mom had only temporarily woken up and would go back to sleep again. So first thing in
the morning, she went to Shelley's side and gently nudged her arm.
Shelley woke up from Cordelia's nudge, smiled and asked, "What's up, Della?"
Seeing that her mom seemed normal, Cordelia also smiled, "I gotta go to work now. If you need
anything, just have Trina give me a call."
Shelley patted Cordelia's face, "Alright."
As she was walking out, she bumped into Dr. Devon who was coming in to check on Shelley. Cordelia Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
told Trina to inform her of the examination results later.
Walking down the street, she felt like she was walking on air, completely relaxed.
Upon reaching the office and waiting for the elevator, she bumped into Jordan. He was extremely
respectful towards Cordelia, a far cry from when she first joined as an intern.
"Cordelia, how’s your new work going? What's the Audit Department up to?" Jordan asked with
pretended concern.
"Uh huh, pretty tiring. I just started, so I'm still trying to wrap my head around a lot of things," Cordelia
replied coldly.
Cordelia had been in the Audit Department for only a short while, but she knew that the department
had been investigating the Finance Department's accounts for a while now. From what she gathered,
the issues in the Finance Department were pretty severe.
Back when Cordelia was just a small-time accountant in the Finance Department, she didn't have much
authority and was kept in the dark about a lot of stuff. But now, working under Milana, she was privy to
a lot more information. For instance, she knew that Jordan was screwed.
But she didn't breathe a word of this to him.
The Audit Department was on the top floor. After Jordan got off, Cordelia continued upwards,
wondering how someone as shrewd as Ronan could have hired someone like Jordan.
Maybe Ronan had figured out that there was something fishy about Jordan, so he set up the Audit
Department specifically to investigate him. It was a smart move – letting the Audit Department deal with
it meant he didn't have to get his hands dirty.
Ronan was one clever cookie. A true-born businessman.
Just as she was thinking this, the elevator doors opened. And there was Ronan.
Cordelia had been thinking about him with her eyes half-closed, and his sudden appearance, as if he
stepped out from her thoughts, startled her and made her sway slightly backwards.
"Thinking of me?" Ronan asked, hands in his pockets, as he stepped onto the elevator.
Standing in front of her and looking at her reflection in the elevator mirror, he made Cordelia feel a bit
awkward for being caught off guard again.
"My mom just woke up. Can I stay with her in the hospital for a few days?" Cordelia asked Ronan.
"Sure," Ronan replied succinctly, seemingly not bothered by her request.
Cordelia smiled.
When they reached the top floor, the elevator doors opened and Ronan, without paying any attention to
Cordelia, headed straight for Wyatt's office.
Cordelia hadn't seen Ronan come to this floor since she started working in the Audit Department, and
judging by his hurried steps, he seemed to have something important to deal with.
As soon as Cordelia arrived at the Audit Department, she got busy with work. At lunch, she met up with
Brooklyn for a meal. As she was waiting for Brooklyn in the lobby, she heard some of her former
colleagues from the Finance Department gossiping in the elevator.
"The Finance Director of Lumos Enterprises has to be at least in the top ten of Millstone to even qualify,
right? I heard Jordan has been embezzling a ton these past few years."
"He must be making at least 200,000 dollars a year."
Cordelia was a bit confused. What was going on with Jordan? She knew the Audit Department was
investigating the Finance Department's accounts and that Jordan was in hot water, but she had no idea
things would come to light so quickly.
After waiting in the lobby for a bit, Brooklyn arrived. As they walked, Brooklyn whispered to Cordelia,
"The Audit Department sure has some guts. I heard the prosecutors took Jordan away today."
"What?" Cordelia was taken aback.
She hadn't expected Ronan to be so swift and decisive. She guessed that his visit to the Audit
Department today must have been to discuss this matter with Wyatt.
The Audit Department was a whirlpool of hidden currents, and Ronan was even more of an enigma.
Thinking back on it, Cordelia felt a shiver of fear.
"Jordan was one of the old employees who started the business with Mr. Evans, otherwise he would
have been fired long ago," Brooklyn whispered to Cordelia during lunch, "You share a bed with him
every night, don't you know anything?"
Cordelia was even more frightened. There hadn't been any warning, and she, working in the Audit
Department, was completely oblivious.
As Ronan's wife, she was even more clueless.
