The Cherished Wife

Chapter 314

Charles glanced up, cracking his knuckles. "Out with it!"

Sean shrank back a little and gulped. "Cody's here."

Charles scrunched his eyebrows. "What does he want?"

"He wants my help!" Sean blurted out. "Don't you remember? He saved Liliana's life a few years back. It's smart of him to come to me. Why would he ask me, though? Liliana's your sister, not mine."

"Get to the point!" Charles demanded, his voice sharp.

"The point is, Cody wants me to help him out. He doesn't just want me to heal Annie, but also to smooth things over. That guy has no clue who's behind The Majestic Lounge. He thinks by getting to me, he can get to you, and you can talk to the big boss of The Majestic Lounge for him."

Charles's eyebrows drew together, a shadow flickering in his deep eyes. "Did you really agree to it?" he asked.

"Of course. I hate being in debt to anyone," Sean replied. Just then, he caught Charles's fierce glare and quickly put up his hands, saying, "I only said I'd help, not that it's a sure thing, right?" Then he added, "Hey, is our little sister-in-law awake?"

Charles paused, his anger fading for a moment. He shot Sean a warning look, turned around with a smile that did not quite reach his eyes, and realized Noelle was not in bed.

Charles squinted, turning to look for her, but Sean had already zipped away.

Charles squeezed his fists, trying to

Sean, feeling pretty pleased with himself, strolled away with his hands in his white coat pockets. A few nurses greeted him, and he nodded back, all business again.

Back in his office, Sean found Cody waiting for him.

"Mr. Smith," Cody said, getting up quickly. Sean waved him back down and asked his assistant to bring in two cups of water. "Sorry, that's all I've got," he said.

"It's all good. Water's fine, really!" Cody replied, trying to sound confident even though he was there to ask Sean for a favor.

After the assistant left the room, Cody took a few deep breaths and sipped his water, trying to calm his nerves. "Sean, I came here today to remind you of a promise you made a long time ago."

Sean raised an eyebrow, stroked his chin, and let out a small smile. "Go ahead, Mr. Adams."

"You want my help?" Sean's smile grew. "Think it over. I do owe you one, so I'll keep my word, but are you sure this is how you want to cash it in?"

Cody paused, not fully grasping Sean's words. However, the thought of Annie's injuries made him nod firmly. "Yes!"
