The Cherished Wife

Chapter 309

"This woman is quite a skilled actress!"

Sean had been watching the whole scene unfold. With a twinkle in his charming eyes, he grinned at Ronald. "Right, Ronald?"

"Yes, absolutely!" Ronald replied, glancing at Sean. "How about you, Mr. Smith?"

"Let's just let things take their course. I was only here for a bit of excitement. It's late, and I'm heading home!" Sean dusted off his clothes as if he had played no part in the recent drama and walked away.

On the other side of town, Charles carried Noelle to Sean's private hospital. The staff had been alerted to expect Charles and were waiting outside. When they saw Charles holding a woman, they rushed to greet him. "Mr. Hoffman."

"Yes," Charles said as he stepped out of the car with Noelle in his arms and faced the doctor. "She's been bitten by a snake. Please check if all the venom's been removed!"

Hearing that, the doctor quickly examined Noelle's wound. "Mr. Hoffman, please lay her down so we can take a closer look!"NôvelDrama.Org exclusive content.

Noelle's leg wound had been cleaned, but to be safe, the doctor recommended she stay overnight for observation. If she was fine by morning, then they could be sure she was out of danger.

The hospital staff were anxious all night. When Noelle woke up the next morning, everyone let out a sigh of relief.

Noelle had been asleep all night, but she woke up feeling all fuzzy-headed. To her surprise, she found herself in a hospital room. As she tried to sit up, she felt a warm touch on her forehead. Looking up, she saw Charles standing there with a worried look. "You've still got a little fever," he said. Noelle bit her lip, and Charles quickly gave her a glass of water. "How are you feeling?"

She took a sip and started to feel her head clear. Looking at Charles with a confused expression, she asked, "Why am in the hospital?" Then, she remembered the scary events from last night and blurted out, "About last night..."

"Don't worry, I'll take care of everything!" Charles reassured her, taking the cup back and checking her forehead again. "Let me know if you're hurting anywhere, okay?"

Noelle gently pulled her hand away from Charles's and shook her head. "I'm okay now, really."

She thought back to the night before, including the snake bite. Lifting the covers, she checked the bandage on her leg and let out a relieved breath.

Charles saw how brave she was being and felt a pang in his heart. He held her hand tightly and said, "I should have protected you better."

Noelle quickly shook her head. Even

though she was still pale, she felt much stronger. "You can't blame yourself. Nobody could've guessed what happened yesterday!" She looked at him and asked, "Do you know who was behind last night's ineident?"

"I've sent Ronald to look into it, so you can trust me to handle this, okay?" Charles lifted Noelle's hand and gently kissed it. "You need to rest now."

Noelle nodded, then added. "This might have something to do with Winter and her group..."

"Let's not worry about that now. I've promised to take care of it, and I will. You shouldn't stress over it."

"However, ..." Noelle hesitated. She

never got along with Winter, but she could not understand why Winter always seemed to pick on her, especially when it came to something as serious as yesterday. "Isn't she getting married to Xavier?"

"Getting married?" Charles smirked. "Now that you mention it, it's probably time to keep her busy with something else. She's too focused on bothering you, and it's getting tiresome!"
