The Cherished Wife

Chapter 279

Charles was a sweet talker, and Sebastian was not an unreasonable man. He knew his limits, and after all, this was Charles, his former student. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

He knew what sort of character Charles possessed. Otherwise, he would not even have bothered introducing him to Noelle a couple of months before. Back then, he had hoped a relationship would blossom between the two and only stopped willing it to happen when Noelle refused.

He was not expecting Charles and Noelle to become an item of their own accord after he gave up trying.

When he heard the respectful way Charles spoke to him, all the anger Sebastian previously felt completely dissipated. However, he felt the need to put on an act.

“Hmph, don’t think this sweet talk can fool me! I’m telling you, you’d better provide me with a proper explanation. I’m sure you know the kind of temper that have!”

“Of course, I will, sir. I’m sure you know the sort of character I am, sir!” Charles finally managed to cajole Sebastian.

He glanced at Noelle before adding, “Grandpa, since Noelle and I are already married, when would you like to have an official meeting?” Charles was extremely detail–oriented. “Though you’re my teacher, my current identity has still changed since I’m now Nelly’s husband. I think it requires a formal meet–up.” “Yes, that’s a must!” Sebastian marveled to himself at how Charles had thought of everything and felt even more gleeful when he thought of the fact that the old coot from the Shaw family did not yet know of Charles and Noelle’s marriage. “If that’s the case, why don’t you two drop by when you’ve got the time?”

“Alright!” Charles chuckled. “I’m available tomorrow. What about you, Grandpa?”

“Let’s set it for tomorrow, then!”

After deciding on the dates, Sebastian spoke to Noelle again briefly before he hung up the phone, satisfied.

Noelle heaved a sigh of relief before giving Charles a vexed look. “Are we really going to meet Grandpa tomorrow?”

To be honest, she was not that yet. She was flustered when she heard Sebastian’s questions just now.

Compared to Noelle, Charles seemed much more at ease. He reached a hand out to gently stroke Noelle’s forehead before ruffling her hair.

Upon noticing how at ease Charles seemed, Noelle could not help but wonder if she was making a big deal out of nothing.

She thought of the fact that Charles had been her grandfather’s favorite student and decided that it was unlikely he would cause Charles any trouble. However, she still felt overwhelmed when she thought of the fact that she had to meet her grandfather and explain things to him the next day.

“Come on, why are you worried when I’m not?” Charles patted Noelle’s hand comfortingly. “Do you think Sir Jenkins will be that unreasonable?”

“No, of course not!” Noelle shook her head. “I know Grandpa’s character, and he’s not one to be unreasonable. But I’m sure you know I turned down his offer when he first introduced you to me. There’s no way he’ll just accept that we’re married now without asking further questions!”

Noelle felt somewhat distressed. After all, her initial reason for marrying Charles was not because she was in love with him. She was worried her grandfather might be disappointed in her upon learning the truth.

“Silly girl!” Charles was a smart man and managed to get a rough idea of what was running through Noelle’s mind from the look on her face. He took Noelle’s hand and led her out of the study. “You don’t have to worry about that. If Grandpa asks, just say I was so insistent that I finally managed to win you over.”
