Chapter 638 The Hidden Sniper
Chapter 638 The Hidden Sniper
"Run an investigation on the side about the whereabouts of my mother-in-law," Caspian said.
"Huh? Isn't your mother-in-law Kate Massey, Lord Caspian? Has she gone missing?" Laina asked in
confusion.
"No. You didn't know this, but Kate isn't Willow's biological mother. The woman you're going to search
for is named Irene Olson."
"Irene Olson?" Laina was somewhat bemused. This was her first time hearing that name.
"This mission is more difficult than the one you gave me just now. Do you have any other leads?" Laina
asked, finding this tough.
"She was driven out by the Stewarts. If finding her is so simple, what do I need you for? You must find
her within the shortest time possible," Caspian ordered.
"Yes, Lord! I'll get this done as soon as possible," Laina answered.
…
After ending the call, Caspian was overwhelmed by emotions that refused to subside. He fell into a
deep sleep, his heart filled with excitement.
…
On the other side, Willow was preoccupied. After learning that Henry would be executed by firing
squad, she was torn and at a loss for what to do. She wanted to tell the Stewarts the news, but she
feared they would be unable to handle it.
However, she would feel bad if she were to keep this from them.
"Are you okay, Willow?" After coming back with some water, Zoey saw Willow's uneasy expression.
"I-I'm fine," Willow said, shaking her head.
"Why do you look preoccupied, then? What happened?" Zoey asked.
"I'm met with something I'm unable to resolve, Zoey. I feel troubled, and I don't know who I can vent to
about this," Willow said with a frown.
"You have me, don't you? Did Caspian bully you?" Zoey asked.
"No, no. My cousin Henry will be executed by firing squad in four days as he'd committed treason. I feel
helpless now. What do you think I should do?" Willow asked.
"What? Caspian's going to have Henry executed by firing squad?" Zoey was shocked to hear that.
"Yes! Although he's my cousin, Caspian refuses to spare him because he places righteousness over
family loyalty. There is nothing I can do about this now," Willow said, troubled.
"Are his crimes really unforgivable? Must he be executed?" Zoey asked.
"Yes. Caspian holds proof of Henry's treason," Willow said.
"Why are you sad, then? If he committed treason, his execution is reasonable. As the Diatoranian God
of War, of course Caspian must execute the law fairly," Zoey said.
"I don't know how to break the news to the Stewarts," Willow said.
"There's nothing you can't tell. It's not your fault, anyway. It was Henry who decided to be a traitor, and
he deserves this punishment," Zoey replied.
"I'm afraid that the family can't accept it," Willow said, worried. The Stewarts would surely be extremely
horrified to hear the news of Henry's impending execution.
"The news can't be contained, and they'll have to hear about it eventually. You might as well think about
things that make you happy," Zoey advised.
"Like there are any at this point," Willow said.
"Caspian learned of the identity of his parents. Isn't that worth being happy about?" Zoey laughed.
Willow knew that as well. Caspian had been troubled about the identity of his parents for years. Now
that he had learned about it, both he and Willow should be happy.
"You're right. Caspian finally learned about the identity of his parents." Willow forced a smile.
…
When Laina was patrolling the topmost floor of Jade Dragon Grand Hotel, she suddenly noticed a flash
of light on the higher floors of a building some distance away.
Face set, she looked there with her binoculars, only to realize that a sniper was there, right at the spot
where the flash of light had appeared. NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
"A sniper has placed his aim here. Protect the King!" Laina shouted.
All members of Task Force Rose learned about this through their communicative devices, and they
were immediately on guard. A group went to search the building opposite the hotel, aiming to capture
the sniper.
"Something's happening. Protect the King!" The members of Task Force Rose arrived at Balthazar's
suite. Lyndon and the guards standing outside became anxious after hearing their voices.
Lyndon broke into Balthazar's room and shouted, "Your Majesty, hide, quick! A sniper is trying to
assassinate you!"
Balthazar was standing beside his bed, contemplating some questions, when he was startled by
Lyndon's voice.
…
At that moment, Laina was firing at the sniper. As she pulled the trigger, the sniper moved as well.
The sniper was aiming at Balthazar's room, not knowing that he was already exposed. Laina never
missed a target—the bullet was fired at the sniper's head.
However, the sniper had fired as well, aiming at Balthazar's room.
When Lyndon entered the room to see Balthazar standing there, frozen in place, he suddenly felt a bad
premonition.
He pounced and pushed Balthazar onto the floor without hesitation. At this moment, a bullet broke
through the glass and grazed Lyndon's back, ending up lodged within the wall.
"Protect the King as he leaves this place." Lyndon knew clearly that this room was already very
dangerous. Balthazar had to be taken to a different place.
The guards dashed in and stood by Balthazar's side. They knew that this room would be extremely
dangerous in the future. But they came up without a care for everything else anyway, as their
responsibility was to protect Balthazar and ensure his safety.
In dire situations, the guards would form a human wall around Balthazar to protect him.
…
After killing the sniper, Laina discovered more flashes of light around them—not only one sniper was
aiming at Balthazar.
Shocked, she fired again and again, killing those snipers. The members of Task Force Rose moved as
well.
The snipers in hiding continued to fire at Balthazar's suite. They noticed that he was going to leave the
room, making this a great opportunity for them to fire.
Having a bad premonition, Balthazar immediately commanded, "Lay down! Lay down!"
He did not want to see his guards shield him from bullets. They were still young, after all. It would be
such a pity if they were to die for nothing.
After issuing the command, Balthazar lay down on the floor, too. Lyndon and the guards reacted on
time and lay down around Balthazar, protecting him.
Thankfully, everyone had evaded the bullets on time, and none of them were injured by this wave of
bullets.
The higher-ups staying on the topmost floor were also shocked by the firing noises. They dashed to
Balthazar's room as well, wanting to protect him.
Realizing that they had been found out, the snipers could only leave for now. They were all Astronian
and Vadesian secret agents tasked with killing the King of Diatoran.
Laina would never let them go without a fight, though. She ordered her subordinates to fire, and both
sides engaged in a heated battle.
