My phone rings and I quickly reach for it since it’s on the coffee table in front of me. It’s Silas. Did he find out about what happened to his sister and mine because of me?
I have the money. I got it from the bank thirty minutes ago and I’m waiting for a call from Everest to know what to do next. But I can’t ignore Silas’s call. He is used to calling me before the game and I’m not going to break that habit. Especially when I don’t know what’s going to happen to me in a matter of hours.
“Hey cupcake,” he says the moment I hit the green button, which means that he hasn’t found out anything yet because he sounds so cheerful. He wouldn’t call me cupcake if he was aware of what has been going on.
“Hi baby.” I try to sound cheerful because I don’t want him to feel that something is wrong.
“The game is about to start, and I just want to check on you before it starts. Also, I wanted to talk to my lucky charm too to wish me good luck.” I don’t know why but a tear slides down my cheek at his words.
Maybe it’s because I’m scared or simply because I don’t know if I’m going to see him ever again after today or not.
“Good luck, icing. I’m sure you’re going to be amazing,” I tell him, hoping he can’t tell that something is wrong with my
voice.
“Rosie, are you okay? You sound different.” Concern takes over his tone.
“I’m okay.” I quickly lie. “I was just watching The Vow, and you know how much I cry whenever I watch this movie.”
“I’m married to a hopeless romantic.” He chuckles, and I smile through the tears.
“Yeah, you are,” I reply. “I love you so much, Silas. I’m sure you’re going to be great on the field today.”
“And I love you too, cupcake. I can’t wait to get back home to you.” The thing is, I don’t know if I’m going to be here when he comes back. I have a really strong feeling that I won’t be there.
“Good luck, Silas,” I tell him as more tears fall down my cheeks.
“See you later, beautiful.” A sob escapes me once he hangs up and I fall to the floor. I’m petrified. I don’t know if Everest managed to hack my phone, so I’m not taking any risks. Lily and Aniyah are already in danger and I’m not going to add more salt to the cuts. NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
My eyes have never been glued to the screen on my phone like that before. I just want him to call me to tell me what to do next. Waiting like that is killing me. I already tried calling the unknown number he called me from, but it seemed like the phone was turned off.
After exactly five minutes of staring at the phone, it finally rings and it’s another unknown number. I think my heart stops for a moment. Quickly, I answer the phone.
“Hello,” I say, practically jumping from my place.
“Do you have the money?” he asks.
“Yes, it’s all with me!”
“Listen carefully to what I’m about to say and do as you’re told or you’ll never see the girls again,” Everest warns me and I gulp.
“I will do everything you want,” I assure him. I’m not gambling with their lives.
“You’re going to get out of the house and walk out of that gated community of yours. You’ll find a red Nissan waiting for you

outside. Get inside the car and give the driver your phone. If you inform anybody, Rosie, you won’t like the outcome at all.”
“I won’t tell anybody anything.” I say. The moment he hangs up, grab the two duffle bags that have the money and walk out of the house. My eyes fall on the five guards in the house and I debate whether I should tell them or not.
If he wants me to get out of the gated community to get in the car, that means that he doesn’t have access to get inside. I can use this in my favor because I can’t trust Everest. I don’t have a guarantee that he’s not going to hurt the girls even after I give him the money.
Every move I make is a risk, but what if I reduce the amount of risks?
I take a deep breath and walk to one of the guards. “Listen. My sister and Silas’s sister are kidnapped and I’m about to get in a car that is waiting for me outside the compound. It’s a red Nissan. Find a way to follow me and save the girls, but don’t make it obvious that you’re following me, got it?” The security guard has a poker face, but he gives me a simple nod.
I rush out of the house and make my way out of the gated community. I find the red car and cautiously get inside. “Give me your phone,” the bald man in the driver’s seat orders me.
I hand it to him and he starts driving. Five minutes after he moves, I see him throwing my phone out of the window. I expected that. They don’t want anybody to track me through the phone.
Suddenly, he stops the car in an empty street. I look around me and try to decipher if the girls can be anywhere around, but I don’t think that it’s possible. He gets out of the car and I follow him as he makes his way to my door. He opens it and doesn’t say anything, but I find duct tape in his hands.
“What do you want?” I’m sure he can tell that my voice is shaky
“Turn around and put your hands behind your back.” I know that I don’t have another option, so I do as I’m told and it takes him less than two seconds to bind my wrists together with the duct tape, preventing me from making the slightest movement with my hands.
He yanks my body hard to make me face him and I squeeze my eyes when my body connects hard with the car. He places a piece of duct tape on my mouth and wraps his hand around my arm as he drags me to the trunk of the car. My eyes go wide and I try to fight against him, but I’m met with a slap on my face that makes my ear ring in pain.
“You’re going to get in the trunk and you’re going to comply. If hear one sound from you, I won’t hesitate to make you watch me kill the two girls. Do you understand?” I slowly nod as a tear slides down my cheek.
He opens the trunk and I get inside while silently crying. My heart is beating so fast that I feel that it’s about to stop at any moment. I’m petrified of closed space, yet here I am trapped in the trunk of a car being taken to a place I know nothing about.
“Enjoy the state of darkness for a while and remember, make one sound and the two girls will die and you’ll become one of the missing people you hear about in the news, got it?” I give him a small nod before he closes the trunk, leaving me to my fears.
