Chapter 362
Chapter 362
The Cedillo family's porch was occupied by two sneaky figures, both of them lurking in the shadows.
With her belly bulging, Mia whispered, "Leo, quit stepping on my heels. Damn it, you're hurting me."
Leo murmured back, "Well, it is your fault being pregnant and still insist on standing right in front of me.
Let's switch. I'll eavesdrop from the front, and you stand guard from the back."
"Alright, alright, your turn to eavesdrop."
They switched places, eavesdropping on the living room chatter.
"Bruce, Hansen, our agency has received an anonymous tip, along with evidence indicating that both
of you have close ties to the Byrne family. Furthermore, you have conspired with the former head of the
investigative unit, Chad, to eliminate dissent using his position of authority, and subsequently
obstructed our investigation. Furthermore, it has been alleged that you also supported Chad in his
candidacy for the head of the investigative unit." This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Once the four officers were seated, they respectfully conveyed their understanding of the situation to
Hansen and Bruce. The Cedillo family was a big deal. One member was an old politician, another was
the top executive, and they had the backing of Cedillo Inc. They knew they had to treat members of this
family with respect.
"What did you hear?" Mia asked in a hushed tone.
Leo's brow was furrowed, "My dad and grandpa have been reported. And so has Jade's family, the
Byrnes."
Upon hearing this, Mia immediately walked forward, nudged Leo aside, and continued eavesdropping.
Bruce's voice then filled the room, filled with righteous indignation, "This is utter nonsense. I have been
a public servant for over twenty years, always upright and honorable. My interactions with the Byrne
family are entirely normal, nothing like what you are implying.
“Chad is an upstanding and righteous man, a rare gem among the younger generation. How could he
possibly be my weapon? And what enemies do I even have?
“The public has been a witness to everything that Chad has done. From the day he became a police
officer, how much lost assets has he recovered for the state? Why would supporting him for the
position of division head raise suspicions?
“My father has already retired, and the day-to-day operations of the company have been handed over
to my younger brother. So how could he be implicated in the same 'crime' as me?"
Hansen's face was stern, sitting in the main seat without uttering a word. His silence only added to the
unease of the four public officials present. When Hansen was in power, they weren't even born yet.
They felt an inherent respect for him, not fear.
"Bruce, Hansen, please understand that our visit is simply to investigate your relationship with the
Byrne family. If someone is indeed trying to frame you, we will definitely clear things up. We kindly ask
that you accompany us to the station for further investigation." The leading public official spoke
earnestly.
Hansen knew there was no smoke without fire. Without evidence, they wouldn't dare to confront them
directly. He cleared his throat, his aged but powerful voice asking, "What exactly did the informant say
about our relationship with the Byrne Family?"
After all, his daughter was in the Byrne family. While their two families weren't exactly close, it was an
undeniable fact that they were raising a daughter together.
The officials were taken aback by his question.
Behind the pillar, Mia furrowed her brow. Being as smart as she was, she already had an answer in her
mind. As expected, the leading official mentioned two names, "Molly."
With this, everything was clear to Bruce. So someone had secretly reported that he and the Byrne
family had become close due to a child. The last time Chad had Officer Rubin prosecuted, Mr. Marlow,
seeing his protege being persecuted by Chad, used his power to request an investigation. During the
investigation, Chad was suspended from duty to cooperate with the inquiry. At that time, Bruce used his
position to protect Chad, preventing him from being victimized by the higher-ups. But now, he was
being accused of using Chad to get rid of Officer Rubin, and of using his position to protect Chad and
ensure his promotion.
Naomi kept quiet on the sideline, knowing that anything she said at this point would be useless. She
couldn't act like a shrew and prevent these men from taking her family members away. She just sat
down to understand the full story, then thought about how to help her husband and father in law resolve
this issue.
Once Bruce understood what was going on, he looked at his father, "Dad, I'm afraid we'll have to go
with them this time."
Hansen maintained his stern expression. He was always serious when dealing with outsiders. "We will
drive our own car there." Hansen said.
"Hansen, that's against the procedures." A younger public official in a police uniform said.
Hansen's eyes narrowed, and he retorted coldly, "Procedure? Does your procedure override the law?"
The young officer fell silent.
Hansen then addressed the leading man, "Bruce is the mayor and I am a retired politician, but we are
both part of the Cedillo family. Imagine if we were seen arriving at the police station in a police car, how
would the media report it? Cedillo Inc. is not an ordinary company; its influence is enormous. If it were
used by people with ulterior motives, the resulting damage would be irreparable."
"Hansen, you can drive your own car, but I need to ride with you."
Not wanting to make things difficult for these younger men, Hansen and his son exchanged a glance
and nodded. The father and son got up and left the living room.
Naomi rushed out, but Bruce reassured her, "Don't worry. I'll be back soon. Take care of Mia, and don't
scare the kids."
Naomi pursed her lips and nodded, "I'll be waiting."
After the car left, Naomi returned to the living room. The two eavesdroppers had already disappeared.
In Leo's bedroom, Mia sat on Leo's desk chair, resting her elbow on the table and propping up her face,
"Leo, who could be so bored as to report them?"
Leo sat in the chair by his computer desk, leaning against the back of the chair, his eyes flickering.
Suddenly, he remembered what his uncle had said about the Walton family before leaving. Could it be
them? But how would they know that Molly is Jade? "Mia, you might have to betray your man."
Mia looked at Leo, her eyebrows raised playfully. Her tone of voice was unapologetic, and even tinged
with a hint of amusement. "Betrayal isn't a new concept to him. He's used to it."
...
Naomi retreated to a secluded corner of the backyard, calling Andre to fill him in on the family affairs.
Nowadays, the linchpin of the Cedillo family was the man overseas.
Andre was in his hotel suite. He had just finished watching the video posted in the family group chat by
his father, featuring his wife and nephew wrestling for the TV remote. He watched his petite, delicate
wife in the video, a smile playing at the corners of his lips. Just watching videos of her could alleviate
his longing.
Mia was well-nourished under his care, her cheeks plump and rosy. She certainly didn't have those
chubby cheeks before they got married. She looked even more adorable now that she was rounder.
Just as he was preparing to video call his little darling at home to tuck her into bed, Naomi's call came
through. As he picked up the phone, the first person that came to his mind was his wife.
Did she get into a tussle with Leo over the TV remote and needed him to vent? Or did she sneakily
indulge her sweet tooth at home, hiding and eating ice cream behind his back? Could it be that she
was bossing his father around at home, arguing with him, and needed him to intervene?
Or perhaps...
Andre answered the call with a smile, "Hey, Naomi, did my Mia misbehave again?"
