Chapter 311
Chapter 311
Mia looked at her husband, "Just to be on the safe side, you'd better sleep in the guest room."
Andre chuckled and said, "All right."
His brother-in-law was leaving soon, so it wasn't a big deal to stay in the guest room for a few days.
Mia instantly got what her husband was thinking. He always had a knack for keeping his cool.
The next day, the Irvins took Cooper to visit the Cedillos. As soon as they walked in, Hansen had a gift
ready for Cooper.
"Why are you giving me a present?" Cooper asked.
Hansen replied, "This gift was meant to give to you last year, but you weren't around, so I'm doing it
now."
Cooper declined, "I don't want it."
But Mia's eyes were glued to the gift. Andre covered his wife's eyes with his hand and whispered in her
ear, "If you're jonesing for a gift, I'll hook you up with one tonight. Don't be green-eyed about Cooper.
This present is for him. You can't be envious."
"I know, honey. I was just having a gander." Mia brushed Andre's hand away.
Later on, Aaron and Madison convinced his son to accept the gift.
It was only then that Cooper realized Hansen's real intention. Despite his seemingly harmless NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
demeanor, Hansen had made his mark in both politics and business. He was no pushover, how could
he be just a simple old man?
Hansen was offering a gift as soon as Cooper walked in. If Cooper accepted, it meant he was
accepting his ties with the Cedillos, effectively killing any chance of him warning the Cedillos. He
couldn't outright blow the whistle on Andre, and he couldn't come off too harsh. Hansen's cunning was
something to be admired.
At that moment, Andre understood his father's intentions. He had deliberately covered his wife's eyes
to prevent her from grabbing Cooper's gift.
Now, Cooper was a bit peeved. He couldn't utter the crucial words he wanted to.
Hansen, eyes sparkling with wisdom, said, "Molly, Leo, why don't you show Cooper around, help him
get familiar with the place."
"Sure." They took Cooper and left.
After a while, Naomi handed Mia a glass of juice. Before Mia could finish it, she was handed a peeled
egg. Mia was in the middle of eating when another peeled egg was handed to her. Since Mia was
pregnant, she had to have a separate meal prepared.
At lunch, Cooper glanced at his sister's plate. All sorts of soups, boiled vegetables, and milk. This was
what she had to eat!
Their food, on the other hand, was a smorgasbord of seafood, turkey and all sorts of delicacies.
Mia drooled over their food. She looked at her own food, bland and unappetizing, and felt queasy. She
clenched her fists on the table, showing her dissatisfaction to everyone.
The maid wasn't sure if Mia wanted to continue eating, so she looked at Hansen, who was trying to
placate Mia, "Mia, if you want to eat what we're eating, wait a few months. After the baby's born, we
can indulge in these delicacies."
"Dad, that's so not fair." Mia said.
"I know. I love you the most." Hansen replied.
Molly agreed with her father at the table, "Dad, you're the man of the year, one of a kind."
Mia didn't realize how wise her father-in-law was. She turned to her husband, ready to act cute.
However, Andre told the maid, "Keep doing your work."
The maid got the instruction and continued with her work.
Mia looked unhappily at everything in front of her. No one was looking out for her; all they cared about
was the baby in her tummy.
During the meal, Andre tasted a bit of the delicacy in front of him, then used his fork to pick up a little
more, and publicly fed it to his cute wife who was sipping her soup and looking a bit peeved.
Mia opened her mouth and he fed her directly.
"Honey, try this. It's really gross." She scooped a spoonful of the specially made soup and fed her
husband.
Andre tasted it, then savored it.
"Honey, isn't it awful? It's not fit for human consumption, right?" Mia continued to ask.
Andre replied, "It's a bit bland, but it's edible."
Mia let her husband taste the other soups, and by the end, Andre was feeling a bit sick. He frowned,
called over a few maids, and had them remove the several nutrient-rich soups in front of Mia, leaving
only two with decent flavors.
Mia was moved and said, "Honey, turns out you're the one who spoils me the most."
Andre directly shared the food on the table that she could eat. All of this was seen by Cooper, who
didn't say a word.
In the afternoon, when Cooper was about to head home, he stood by Mia, choking back his tears,
"We're going home. Will you come back?"
Mia felt an urge to cry at his words.
Cooper wiped away her tears, saying, "Why are you crying again? Don't give me a crybaby nephew.
Don't cry."
It hurt him to see her cry.
Andre also heard what his brother-in-law had said. He understood his wife's feelings. Her brother had
accepted that she was leaving the Irvins to become a member of the Cedillo family.
Mia's eyes were red and tearful, "You're leaving tomorrow. I want to go home with you guys."
Andre said, "If you want to go home, then go. Don't be upset. We'll drive together to drop Cooper off
tomorrow."
"But I have class tomorrow." Mia said, feeling upset.
"I'll get you an absence, okay?" Andre said.
The Irvins came and left with the same group of people.
After the Irvins left, Leo said to his grandfather, "Hansen, you're truly wise. How did you know Cooper
wouldn't accept our family? You gave him a gift right off the bat."
Molly said, "I told dad."
Hansen looked at his daughter, nodded in approval. He then turned his gaze to his grandson, feeling
quite pissed, "You're nothing like your aunt. At least she knows to inform me about the situation, while
you just sit around and watch the drama unfold."
At this point, Leo felt there was a good reason he was being disliked.
Back at the Irvin family's place, Cooper had packed his bags and was ready to go. Madison, thinking
about sending her son off again, couldn't help but shed a few silent tears.
Aaron, though stern, also repeatedly remind his son to stay safe while sitting on the couch.
Andre passed along the contact info of the Cedillo Group's overseas branch president to his brother-in-
law and said, "Cooper, if you need any help overseas and we can't get there in time, you can directly
reach out to him."
Cooper expressed his gratitude.
Mia said, "Cooper, when I give birth, you must come back."
Cooper replied, "Do you actually have anything else to say to me, or are you just saying that for the
sake of it?"
Mia, feeling surprised, shot back, "How did you know?"
His brother felt a pang in his heart.
The next day, the whole family sent Cooper to the airport, watching him as he went through security.
After entering, he turned back and said, "You guys can go back now, I have to go."
With that, he picked up his ticket, grabbed his luggage, and disappeared into the crowd.
