Chapter 279
Chapter 279
Two years later, Mr. Kendrick's sister tied the knot again. The guy was also a divorcee with a daughter,
which made her life more stable. After getting hitched, she realized her brother and sister-in-law were
her pillars at her husband's home. So, every time she saw them, she was extra polite.
This time, Chad suddenly mentioned her to his sister, probably because there were some family issues
again.
On the road, Molly asked her brother, "If I get into an argument, whose side will you take?"
"In our family, everyone knows I'll always take your side." Chad said.
Arriving at the Byrne family's, they immediately heard the laughter of Mr. Kendrick's sister, her son, her
remarried husband, and stepdaughter.
Chad took her hand, "Let's go in."
As they entered, they announced, "Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, we're back."
The way they entered made them look like newlyweds returning home.
Mr. Kendrick's sister had never been fond of Molly. Upon learning that Molly was adopted by her
brother, her attitude towards Molly became colder, even mocking her at times.
This time at her house, she wanted to see if Molly still dared to ignore her.
"Why don't you go back to your own home instead of coming to us? We've been taking care of you for
fifteen years, you're not planning on staying with the Byrne family forever, are you?" She asked.
She didn't look at Molly but elsewhere.
Molly didn't look at her either but asked her parents, "Mom, Dad, why do we have to entertain guests at
home? They leave a stinky smell when they’re gone, and we have to clean up after."
"Hey, what's with the attitude?" She asked.
"Can't you see I'm just speaking my mind?" Molly retorted. At her own home, Molly was fearless. She
knew her parents and brother would protect her, so she wasn't afraid of offending people.
Mr. Kendrick's sister pointed at Molly and said, "How dare you be so arrogant in our family? Get out." Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
"This is my house, get it straight. The property deed has my mom and dad's names on it. Who do you
think you are? You dare to claim this is your house, what does it have to do with you? If anyone should
leave, it's you." Molly said.
Seeing that his sister wasn't wronged, Chad didn't interfere.
Coleen was also unhappy; her husband's sister had no right to drive her own daughter out, "Molly,
come sit with mom."
Mr. Kendrick also made a gesture, "Sweetheart, sit between mom and dad."
Molly gave a proud smile and happily ran to sit between her parents.
Chad chuckled.
The grandparents of the Byrne family quickly tried to shift the topic, hoping to defuse the argument.
Mr. Kendrick's sister was always infuriated by Molly. After she sat down, she complained about why her
son didn't back her up during the argument.
Molly said, "Why do you want a man to intervene in our argument? If it really needs a man, I can ask
my dad, my brother, and I would still win."
Mr. Kendrick's sister had important things to do on this visit, and she couldn't just leave in anger
because of Molly.
Chad sat next to his grandfather, he picked up a few chocolate candies from the table, stood up, and
put them all on Molly's lap.
Molly opened one of the candies, first gave one to her mom on the left, then to her dad on the right.
Only then did she eat one herself.
"Chad, where's the bathroom? I need to go." Vivian, the step daughter of Mr. Kendrick's sister, shyly
asked Chad.
Chad told his sister, "Molly, you take her."
Molly got up from the couch and pointed in a direction, "The door with the dried flowers is the
bathroom."
Vivian went by herself.
When she came back after washing her hands, she didn't sit back in her original spot, but sat next to
Chad, "Chad, is the police station busy?"
Chad subconsciously looked at his sister, who was glaring at Vivian. Finally, she turned her gaze to
him, "Brother, I'm thirsty."
Chad got up to pour his sister a glass of water, then he directly sat on the other side.
Mr. Kendrick's sister said to Chad, "Chad, Vivian is asking you something."
"Busy." That was Chad's answer.
Mr. Kendrick's sister continued, "Don't bring irrelevant people to the police station when you're busy, it
will affect your work." When she said "irrelevant people", she deliberately glared at Molly.
Chad looked at Molly adoringly and said, "I can take the time to be with her. I feel at ease when she's
there; it won't affect my work."
Molly immediately smiled at her brother, "I love you."
Hearing this, Chad's smile become even brighter, revealing a row of teeth.
Mr. Kendrick's sister was displeased every time she saw Molly. She directly ordered, "Vivian will stay in
Molly's room tonight. We're not leaving." She spoke as if this was her own home.
Molly said, "No way!"
She continued, "That's my room. Only if I invite her can she sleep there. If I don't, she can't get in."
Mr. Kendrick's sister challenged, "We've traveled such a long distance to visit, and you want us to sleep
on the streets?"
"Even if you have to sleep on the floor, you can't enter my room." Molly said.
Mr. Kendrick's sister got up angrily and pointed at Molly, "Is that your room? That's my niece's room.
Go back to where you came from. You're shameless to take over my house and treat it like your own."
Molly instantly lost her temper. She stood up and slapped away the hand that Mr. Kendrick's sister was
pointing at her with. She pointed at the door, "Get out, this is my house. The visitation time ended
yesterday. You have a home but you don't go back, instead, you bring your whole family to mooch off
here. Do I need to get a broom to sweep you out?"
Mr. Kendrick got up and stood between the arguing pair, "Alright, alright, cut the crap. Sis, Molly is my
daughter, this is her home. What you've said is not fair to the kid. Molly still respects you as an elder."
"I'm not her elder, she's got her own parents. What's she doing here? She can't just leech off us
because we're loaded, right?" She said.
Molly chimed in, "If I were to drop the name of my real brother, you guys would be scared shitless!"
If the two elder brothers of the Cedillo family knew their little sister was being bullied like this, they
would have been here in a flash to back her up.
Coleen's face had turned a nasty shade. She stood up from the sofa, holding her daughter's hand,
"Sweetie, up you go with mommy, let them sort out their own mess." With that, Molly was led back to
the master bedroom by her mother.
Chad put down his phone, standing up to address Mr. Kendrick's sister, "Hotel rooms have been
booked for you guys. Our place isn't big enough for everyone. Grandpa and Grandma just got back
from the hospital and need rest. It'd be more convenient for you guys to stay in a hotel."
Two men also rose beside Mr. Kendrick's sister, one her biological son, the other her husband. They
both held her back, stopping her from lashing out, as they had important matters to attend to and didn't
want to offend this family.
Back in the master bedroom, Coleen sat on the bed, fuming, "Molly, your room is for you, only you, got
it? No backing down."
Molly nodded, "Don't worry, mom. Not only will I hold down my room, but I won't let anyone else into my
brothers' rooms either."
