Chapter 246
Chapter 246
After the cops left, Mia gave Leo a light pat on the shoulder, "Leo, let's head to the news office, time for
you to make some dough."
That afternoon, the chairman of the Marshal Group was rumoured to have been taken away by the
police for questioning. Once the news broke, the Marshal Group's stock price started to nosedive.
Some gossip-loving tabloids caught the hot topic, finding out that the one who took away the chairman
was none other than Chad. Anyone with a bit of curiosity could easily find out that Chad just busted an
illegal operation under the Marshal Group a few days ago.
Many journalists were familiar with this police captain from Havenbrook, knowing that he mainly dealt Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
with economic crimes. Adding to that, Calder Corporation, which had been collaborating with the
Marshal Group for fifteen years, had just ended its partnership with the Marshal family a couple days
ago.
Now Brian was being taken away by Officer Chad.
So the journalists started reporting a news story: the Marshal Group in financial crisis, company about
to go bankrupt, chairman arrested.
This led those who held Marshal Group shares to dump them like hot potatoes, and partners started to
play the waiting game.
Ever since Calder Corporation abruptly terminated the contract a couple days ago, the Marshal Group
had been in a state of turmoil.
Two other major companies, acting under Andre's instructions, also terminated their contracts along
with Calder Corporation. Brian was running around like a headless chicken these few days, answering
one phone call after another, trying to soothe the partners' nerves.
Just when he thought he had managed to stabilize the situation, the news of him being taken away by
the police hit the papers.
Now the company's situation was even more chaotic. Many partners were considering whether to pay
the penalty and terminate the contracts too?
But they also worried that this could just be a misunderstanding, and working with the Marshal family
might present an opportunity, they couldn't just terminate the contract over a minor hiccup.
On the way home, Leo said to Mia, "Those partners won't terminate the contract just because he got
arrested. Calder Corporation is Andre's branch, so they dare to risk paying the high penalty for
termination. The others will definitely think twice before making a decision."
Mia looked at the financial news on her phone with a teasing grin, "What I want to do is not to let the
partners terminate the contract, but to let everyone know that the Marshal Group is about to hit a snag.
This will plant a seed of caution in the partners' minds, prompting them to look for other partners.
Whether they want to renew the contract or terminate it after the contract with the Marshal Group
expires is unknown."
What she wanted to do was to deal the Marshal Group a severe blow.
Leo asked, "Why don't you just go directly to the journalists? If they come and take photos, wouldn't the
impact be bigger than you taking videos yourself?"
Mia told him, "If we go to the journalists, they will surely crowd at the door asking Officer Chad why he
took him away, and Chad won't be able to explain. And this method is too unpredictable. If Brian says
something unfavorable to us in front of the journalists, we will lose control of the situation."
Leo thought Mia was really a risk-averse person. She took videos herself, then sold them to the news
office for money, leaving Brian without a say, everything was under her control.
"Mia, since you don't lack money, why do you have to sell the video to the news office? Why not just
give it away?"
Mia replied, "Usually, people value the things they buy more than the things they get for free. For
example, this video, if it's free, people might not watch it. But if it's paid, the audience will try to make
the most out of it."
Then she added, "Besides, my husband works hard to support the family, 20 bucks may not be a lot,
but it's still money."
Leo responded, "Everyone in the world has the right to say making money is hard, except you."
Mia proudly replied, "I'm going home to wait for my husband to get off work."
In Andre's office at Cedillo Inc., Andre was looking at the news on his phone with some confusion.
Chad went to arrest Brian? Did they find evidence of Brian's illegal activities?
Like everyone else, Andre was also bewildered by Mia's video.
He called Chad. "Hello?"
"Andre?" The person who answered the call was surprisingly Molly.
"Molly! How come you have Chad's phone?" Andre asked.
Molly explained, "I'm at the police station, Chad is talking to Brian."
Andre suddenly had a premonition, and he asked, "Do you know about Brian's arrest?"
"Of course, I'm the one who reported it."
"Reported?" Andre was confused by his sister, why did she call the police?
Molly explained, "Mia told me that Brian detained Leo, and he might also be involved in a kidnapping
case fifteen years ago. I couldn't swallow this, so I called the police."
Andre asked, "Did you take the video that's online?"
"No, that was your wife."
So his wife was also involved, then his nephew definitely had a part too.
His wife, long-lost sister, and the nephew he grew up with, these three people had fooled everyone.
"Ask Chad to call me back later."
"Okay, Andre, I'll let him know."
Not long after, Chad showed up, Molly passed on the message to him.
Chad took the phone and shooed his sister out of the office, "Wait outside."
He had a private conversation with Andre.
"Hey, Andre, you called?"
"You really went on duty. Molly is just acting recklessly."
Chad replied, "I've checked, Leo was indeed detained by Brian, there's no recklessness on Molly's
part."
"A small case like this, sending a couple of cops would be enough, and yet you, a police captain,
personally took action?"
Chad was a bit stumped. "If I don't step up to the plate, Molly will accuse me of not caring about her,
and that'll come back to bite me."
"Did you ask Brian about Officer Rubin's case?"
Chad recalled Brian's reaction, telling Andre, "He clammed up and said he's waiting for his lawyer."
Just then, the lawyer showed up. Chad and Andre wrapped up their call.
In the end, Brian was carted off. Molly was a bit bummed out - she hadn't gotten a chance to see him
get tossed in the slammer. She approached Chad. "Chad, go get him back for me."
Chad felt like punching her.
Molly bolted out of the room in fright.
During dinner that evening, Coleen asked her son why he had arrested Brian.
She was a woman of the business world and after today's event, she had been bombarded with
questions from her business pals about the Marshal Group. Being Chad's mom, they assumed she
would have the inside scoop.
Coleen was cunning. She neither admitted to knowing nothing nor claimed to know everything, but
skillfully sidestepped the matter. Once home, she asked her son.
Chad said, "You should be asking your daughter."
"Daughter?" Coleen looked at Molly, who was focused on her meal.
Her daughter was acting as if she had gone invisible.
"Molly, your mom is talking to you," Mr. Kendrick called out to his daughter.
Molly looked up and said, "Mom?"
"Your brother arrested Brian. What's that got to do with you?"
"Yes, I asked my brother to arrest him."
Coleen and Mr. Kendrick exchanged glances.
Coleen put down her utensils and said sternly, "Molly, look me in the eyes and tell me, what's going
on?"
Molly, who usually liked to act spoiled, became meek and quiet in front of her mother's serious
demeanor, as if she were a mouse encountering a cat.
