Chapter 2072: A Man Comforts Another Man
"I came to check on you," Andrew said as he sat down on the sofa opposite Spencer. "Mr. Marsh gave you a hard time, and I figured you wouldn't be in a good mood. I thought I'd come over to cheer you up." "Thanks a lot!" Spencer replied irritably, wanting nothing more than some peace and quiet.
"You're welcome!" Andrew responded with a smile, ignoring Spencer's discomfort. "How about we go out for hotpot? My treat. Don't stay cooped up at home; sometimes you need to get out to release some emotions. How about hitting a bar tonight?"
Spencer felt increasingly annoyed by the incessant chatter and asked, "My brother didn't give you any trouble, did he?"
Just then, Andrew's phone rang. The two men exchanged glances as a strange tension filled the air.
Andrew pulled out his phone, and the screen displayed 'Mr. Marsh.' His smile vanished instantly.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
Spencer glanced over and saw the name on the screen. "Can't even handle your own problems, yet you're here to comfort me?" he scoffed, leaning back into the sofa. "Answer it. What are you afraid of?" Andrew, sensing Spencer's amusement at his predicament, reluctantly answered the call. "Mr. Marsh, what can I do for you?"
"Do you still have a backup of the Happiness Real Estate project proposal on your computer?" Ivan's calm voice asked. "Yes, do you need it?"
"Send me another copy when you have time; it's not urgent."
"Okay."
After three seconds of agonizing silence for Andrew, Ivan ended the call.
Andrew was bewildered that the call was about something so trivial. He quickly found the proposal on his phone and sent it to Ivan's email; he knew better than to delay anything his boss requested.
Spencer leaned forward and poured two cups of tea. He handed one to Andrew without looking up and asked, "Andrew, am I being too harsh on Angel?"
Andrew was surprised; Spencer was reflecting on himself?
Could he actually be questioning his actions?
Something was definitely off with Spencer today.
Seeing Andrew's hesitation, Spencer looked up and met his gaze. The two men stared at each other for a moment.
Andrew quickly tried to comfort him.
"Well... not really. Angel is truly ē awful. She's like a bad apple in the entertainment industry, known for sleeping with directors during every shoot. Her character is terrible."
Andrew continued, "She likes to flatter those above her while stepping on those below her. She's bullied many newcomers who resent her but lack the power to take her down. You standing up to her probably made a lot of people grateful."
Spencer met his gaze and murmured, "Really? Why don't I believe it?"
"It's true! Angel has a terrible reputation in the industry; don't you know? She's targeted Summer several times!"
Spencer sighed deeply; whenever Summer got upset, he seemed to lose his ability to judge right from wrong.
"Spencer, look," Andrew said, showing him comments on his phone. "There are so many people gloating over this situation; I've seen them myself."
But Spencer wasn't interested in looking at the comments or taking Andrew's phone. He didn't feel any better because Summer was angry with him and had stopped being friends with him.
This was Spencer's biggest concern at the moment. Instead of making progress in their relationship, they had fallen out completely, which troubled him deeply.
