Chapter 8. Baby Surprise

Brie POV

Seven months later.

“Jenna. Please call Jenna.” I told my brother, Flint, gasping as I tried to hold back the pain shooting at my stomach.

It was the middle of the night, and I was writhing in my bed.

“What happened?” Flint asked on the phone, but I could hear the rustling of sheets. He was getting out of bed in a hurry.

Footsteps sounded outside my room. The next second, the door was flung open, and my three single brothers came running.

“Briana!” Marcus was the first one to reach my bed. He saw my sodden pajama bottoms, and his eyes widened in alarm.

“I am going to have the babies,” I told him between pants.

They looked horrified as they stared at me.

It was Marcus who acted quickly. He grabbed me with the bedsheet and lifted me in his arms. He half ran out of my room. while my other brother, Flint, held out the door.

Even through my pain, I heard the sound of the engine starting as another pain gripped me.

“Hang on, sis! We’re getting you to the hospital.” Marcus informed

  1. me.

Marcus carefully put me in the backseat with Flint.

Flint ran after us to hurriedly enter the car from the other side.

When Marcus got me in, Flint was already there to assist.

“How are the contractions coming?” Flint asked when I leaned on his shoulder.

He was still talking on the phone with Jenna.

“I don’t know.” I snapped grumpily when another pain shot me.

“Okay. Let me check.” Flint said, looking harassed.

He timed my contractions before informing Jenna.

The car rolled out of the garage, blending in with the nighttime traffic.

We reached the hospital, which is a good few minutes away from the house my three brothers and I shared.

The three guys have their own houses. Every week, on a rotation. basis, one of the boys stays with me during the early months of my pregnancy.

But when I got close to my due date, they all moved in at my house, brooking no argument.

“All three of you?” I could not help arching my brows at this bright idea. Please note the sarcasm.

Don’t get me wrong. I love having my brothers around, but they always get on my hair. They treat me like a glass that would break any moment.

I am pregnant. I am a divorcee. But I am strong. I am a grown girl.

“They just missed you and making up for lost time,” Jenna told me after they enlisted her help, too.

Long story short, I allowed them to stay on the condition that they would move out once I gave birth.

They all agreed, and we got settled into a routine.

Jenna and Charles live a few blocks away. Their house is within walking distance to the hospital where Jenna works.

When we reached the hospital, a medical crew with a gurney met. us outside the ER.

Jenna ran toward us with her hair flying. Charles joined us as well.

My four brothers stood to the side while the medical staff.

transferred me to the bed and wheeled me toward the emergency

room.

They worked quickly, and afterward, they wheeled me to the delivery room.

At the time, I can no longer bear the excruciating pain that shoots. all over my body.

My back aches. My stomach was cramping, and my knees shook. each time a contraction clobbered me.

“I can’t take it anymore,” I said, panting heavily.

“Hee, hee, hah!” Marcus panted after me. He was making me follow the hee hee hah technique we both learned in the classes. he enrolled me in.

Well, it was comical to see him with his face flaming red and doing. the hee hee hah breathing with me. Too bad I could not laugh. because the pain was becoming more unbearable as each minute. passed.

“Contractions…how many minutes apart?” I heard Jenna shout.

“A minute, doctor.“,

“Check her cervix,” Jenna ordered again.

“Seven centimeters, doc.”

“Ahhhh!” I cried when another contraction hit me. “My back!” I complained.

My other brothers advanced to my bed with worried faces.

One started massaging my back, making me feel a modicum of relief, though temporary because once the pain subsided a little, another pain would hit me harder than the previous one, leaving me in a frenzy.

“She’s ready. I can see the crown.” One of the staff said.

“Relax, the baby is ready to get out,” Jenna told me.

I scowled at her. How can I relax when every part of my body feels like it’s being ripped apart?

I pushed when she instructed and felt something gushed out of me, and the next second, I heard a baby’s cry.

“It’s a boy,” Jenna reported before instructing me to get ready to deliver the next one.

My head lolled to the side in exhaustion, but it was not over yet.

“How many babies were in her tummy?” One of them asked when another contraction hit my body.

“Three boys,” Jenna said, and I could hear the smile of anticipation . in her voice.

Jenna and I knew about the triplets, but we kept it a secret from my brothers, wanting to surprise them.

And they were. I could hear them jumping and clapping each other on the back like they were my children’s fathers.

At this thought, a painful pang squeezed my chest.

I wondered how he was doing right now.

Would he be happy as well if he learned about the babies?
