Chapter 78. Leave Briana Alone
Noah POV
“What is this?” Britney was trying hard to control her anger.
Her fists gripped the paper in her hands. Her jaw clenched in indignation.
I already knew what it was about, and I came in prepared.
“That is my retaliation for what you did last night,” I told her smugly, holding her wrist and throwing it off my face.
She staggered backward. Her arms flailed wildly as she tried to hold on to something to prop herself up.
“You filed a case against me for telling the truth?” There was disbelief on her face.
It was as if she could not believe that I would do something like this to her.
Well, her days of illusion are over.
“It was high time you realized you are accountable for your actions. I didn’t break up with you because of Briana.” Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Liar!” Britney snarled.
“She caused this, and I intend to make her pay.” She warned.
I am already tired of sparring words with Britney. She did not seem to understand everything I said.
“Britney, how many times do I have to tell you? It wasn’t Briana’s fault.”
Tears started to brim her eyes.
There was a time when the sight would have fooled me, but not anymore.
“Now, you are denying it. I have eyes. I have feelings. The minute Briana came back to Rosewood, you had changed. And what’s worse? You broke up with me.” She spat
out.
“I should have broken up with you a long time ago.” I hissed.
That shut her up.
The tears glistening in her eyes earlier had spilled and streamed down her cheeks.
“How could you?”
“I loved you. You made me believe you loved me, too. You promised to marry me.”
My jaw hardened as I tried to restrain my anger. But there was just so much a person
can take.
Britney had tested my patience time and time again.
I had enough of her manipulations.
“Because you said we are engaged, and I believed you.”
“I was telling the truth!” She lashed out, enraged.
“Liar!” I clapped back, equally angered.
I had enough of her machinations.
For years, she tried to trick me, and I believed her.
My body filled with rage when I faced her.
This time, there is no turning back.
“You used my mental condition to manipulate me. Now, you are telling me you love me. But is that love? Besides me, how many guys have you said those three fucked up words?” I shouted to her face contemptuously as I exploded in barely restrained
rage.
The stunned look on Britney’s face was priceless, but I had no time to rejoice on it. Because what was the use of winning when I allowed her to twist me around for years for her own gain?
Britney staggered back.
“Noah.” It was the only thing that came off her lips.
“I saw the proof, Britney. The reason I broke our first engagement was because your cheated on me. Not just once but multiple times.” My voice filled with rage.
“You had me investigated?” Fury filled her voice.
“Yes. And it was the best move I had ever done!” I shot back.
“Is that why you didn’t want me to touch you?” Britney said, swallowing hard.
My eyes pre sharp blazed like hot coals self recrimination
Do you know how much I abhor you, Britney?” I hissed back. I may not derstand before why I don’t want you touching me. Maybe it was my ubconscious warning me.” I chuckled with less mirth.
Britney was reduced to silence.
She bowed her head down in defeat. Well, I thought she was conceding, but it seemed like she only recharges her batteries because she countered once more. “Then why keep me these five years.”
I shook my head. There’s really no sense keeping this bit of information anymore. “Because I only remembered everything now. When I saw Briana again, everything came back to me. You fooled me. You used my condition to make me dance to your tune, but that was over now. I don’t want to dig past hurts and delve into skeletons in the closet. I only want us to part on a good note. We could have left this well enough alone, but you don’t want to. Now, you are forcing my hand.” The warning was evident in my tone.
“What do you mean?”
Britney must have sensed the seriousness in my tone.
Maybe she realized this was a matter of life and death to me.
“Back off. Leave Briana alone, and I won’t give to the media all the incriminating evidence of your cheating. That would destroy your name and your reputation in your world now. You see, you can’t hide your rottenness amidst the glitter and fame you enjoy now.”
“Bastard!” Britney hissed before she walked away.
