Chapter 16 This Check Was Yours
Chapter 16 This Check Was Yours
At 9 PM that evening, in room 801, Robin Mu came home late and saw Oliver Jiang staring at his face in front of the mirror. It seemed that every pore had to be carefully cleaned.
“You should wash. You’re look so shabby. Otherwise, how are you going to date pretty girls again?” Robin Mu dropped his clothes, sat down on the sofa, and sneered.
Oliver Jiang cared about the wound on his face. His voice was slightly better, but it was still hoarse and ugly. If he didn’t push the voice out, people could hardly hear him talk.
“Is there any way to get rid of this scar quickly?” he asked.
Robin Mu said casually, “Do a facial surgery. The technology is well developed now. Ask the female stars in Fenghua Entertainment. They must be experienced with it.”
Oliver Jiang didn’t respond to his sarcasm. He seriously asked, “How long will it heal? If I do this tonight, can I recover tomorrow?”
Robin Mu smiled, “Do you think it’s a painless abortion, done today and healed tomorrow, huh? There is always a recovery period for every surgery. Don’t worry. Don’t show up in public for the time being.”
Oliver Jiang touched his face and looked a bit dignified, “What if I were to take pictures?” NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
Robin Mu poured two glasses of wine and handed one to Oliver Jiang. He sipped it and said, “You can ask the photographer to do a little bit of Photoshop work and make it smooth. I cannot believe there is actually a time when you’re not confident with your face. It’s rare.”
Robin Mu caught a glimpse of documents on the cabinet and asked, “Are those company documents? You’ve met Jack Zhou, haven’t you?”
“Hm.” Oliver Jiang replied shortly. He didn’t continue to explain and asked another question instead, “What do you think of me wearing this suit?”
Robin Mu got up, looked at Oliver Jiang and frowned, “I think something is wrong with you tonight. Oliver, why do you care so much about your clothes and looks? Men only care about appearance at two times; first is when we are getting ready for a date and the second one is when we are about to get laid. Which one are you now?”
Oliver Jiang didn’t want to explain a word. Robin Mu remembered something. He mentioned the gossip again, “By the way, Oliver, how are you and the seventh lady of Tan family? Did she thank you already? Did she fell in love with you at the first sight? You cannot wait to have a date with her, can you?”
After listening to Robin Mu talking about Victoria Tan, Oliver Jiang wore a tie and stared at himself right in the mirror. It was more than a date. He didn’t get the invitation to. He was lucky enough to skip all the steps and get married directly.
Robin Mu saw that Oliver Jiang didn’t look back and didn’t answer. Knowing that it was probably about Victoria Tan, he advised, “Don’t worry, Ah Cheng. Victoria is not an ordinary girl. She will be hard to chase, but I’m sure you will have the chance. The day after tomorrow is Ashley’s wedding. Victoria will definitely show up. You have to take this opportunity to meet the parent. I have something to do so I will not be able to go with you otherwise I can introduce you.”
Oliver Jiang didn’t hear Robin Mu at all, but he did listen to a sentence, Victoria Tan was not easy to chase.
Robin Mu was drunk and fell asleep lying on the sofa. Oliver Jiang ignored him, took the documents to the guest room, and checked the materials inside one by one.
He handled the affairs carefully. He made a list of required materials and prepared all of them well.
He held his new phone and entered a number. Today, when he was typing with Victoria Tan’s phone, he sent a message to his phone so that he could save her number.
He stared at the number for a long time, but he couldn’t find a reason to call or text her.
He logged in to the mailbox and opened an old email.
It was a remake of black and white photo. The photo showed a boy with unkempt hair and eyes hidden under the bangs. He was around 13 or 14 years old, dressed in a clothes that didn’t fit. He was lonely and gloomy. He knew that he was not easy to approach.
He slid the screen and the next photo showed up. It was a boy, taken at the same time, but was different from the first one. It’s just that in this photo, the boy had a faint smile and his eyes were looking at the camera.
Under the shadow of the sun, there was a shadow of another person.
There was an English letter signature in the blank space on the lower right corner of the two photos. The word was written in blue ballpoint, seven.
He stared at the signature for a while and suddenly logged out of the mail. He lied down on the bed and slept.
Early in the morning, Robin Mu got up and went to the toilet to pee. He found that Oliver Jiang had already washed well and was coming out of the walk-in wardrobe.
He squinted at him and asked, “Are you sleepwalking? Why are you up so early?”
He looked up at the clock on the wall. It was five o’clock in the morning.
Oliver Jiang sipped his lips, went to fridge to get two loaves of bread, made a sandwich and coffee. After breakfast, he grabbed the materials and went out.
Robin Mu leaned against the wall and looked at him blankly, “Where are you going? Jack Zhou asked me to take care of you. You just escaped from the kidnappers for two days and where do you think you’re going now?”
Oliver Jiang ignored him and took the key he put on the porch shelf, “Let me the car.”
“Are you going to Fenghua Entertainment? Didn’t you say that your transfer order hadn’t come down yet and that you were still on vacation?” Robin Mu shouted at his back, “I know you’re taking over the office in advance, but do you have to go so early?”
Oliver Jiang didn’t look back. He just waved at him and closed the door.
The Civil Affairs Bureau opened at 9 AM and their appointment was at 9 AM sharp.
There was no traffic jam he was worried about. It was so early for it was still 5 AM. He soon arrived at the bureau.
When he arrived, he looked at the time and it was 6 AM.
He couldn’t calm down for a good thirty minutes. Finally, he couldn’t help sending a message to Victoria Tan, “We meet at Central District Civil Affairs Bureau, right? Oliver Jiang.”
There was no response.
He sat on the chair as time passed by. The dawn was breaking and soon the sun rose. He saw couples coming in the gate either to get married or to get divorce.
According to Victoria Tan’s plan, they would come here a year later to get divorce.
It was too late to back down now. He thought that Victoria Tan changed her mind and chose another partner.
Had he been played?
If so, what could he do?
His phone suddenly buzzed. Oliver Jiang picked it up.
The caller ID was not the person he was waiting for.
Zhan Yue’s name kept floating on the screen. Oliver Jiang took a long time to pick it up and finally the girl’s voice sounded, “Brother, I have a good news to tell you. I’m going to be on the magazine’s cover soon! I will be endorsing Yue Ji’s summer collection. The photoshoot is going to be held in Fenghua. You have to come to the set! It’s 15th this month! Be sure to come!”
It was indeed a surprise. It was normal for her to feel ecstatic. Oliver Jiang responded with a hoarse voice, “Okay. You should work hard. I will come.”
“Brother, thanks for your backing I can work smoothly. If you are free, you can come for dinner. Mom and Dad miss you very much.” Zhan Yue heard something wrong in hindsight, “Brother, what’s wrong with your voice? It’s weird.”
It’s almost eight AM. Oliver Jiang couldn’t even squeezed out a smile, “I have a cold. Don’t worry. I should hang up now.”
He hung up the phone and a message came in. he narrowed his eyes and sipped his lips.
He clicked on the message, “Yes. It’s the Central District Civil Affairs Bureau. I may be trapped in a traffic jam. If I come past 9 AM, please wait for me.”
She was being polite even if he was the one she was going to marry.
Oliver Jiang replied, “Okay. Call me when you arrive.”
Knowing that she would come, Oliver Jiang relaxed and was able to see the surrounding scenery and people freely. He waited for three hours. He was afraid he would miss her if he was a minute late.
At 8:53 AM, Victoria Tan called, “I’m here. I’m at the door.”
Oliver Jiang had already seen her. Unlike his imagination, she wore a white shirt with black suspenders and a hip skirt. She wore delicate makeup looking energetic and sexy at the same time.
“Hello? Can you hear me?” she asked again.
Oliver Jiang hung up the phone and walked toward her.
Victoria Tan turned her head and saw Oliver Jiang. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants. His hair had been take care of. He was also wearing a mask. Victoria Tan might not have recognized him if she didn’t see his eyes.
The background color of the wedding photos were red and white clothes were common choice. Couples walked around in white clothes, especially chosen couple clothes. They were the only couple who stood out.
A short haired girl with beautiful face, tall figure, and outstanding aura and a man with slander built and long legs. He approached her and took off his mask. Everything was perfect expect for the Band-Aid on his face.
Victoria Tan stared at his face and smiled, “I didn’t expect you to look so handsome. I feel like showing you around.”
Oliver Jiang smiled and touched the Band-Aid on his face. He whispered in a hoarse voice, “I’m sorry. My injury is not yet healed. If we get the certificate two days later, I think I can do a surgery.”
He was so cooperative that he left Victoria Tan speechless. She had to take out a check and a contract from her bag, “After we sign this, we’re bind on contract. Also, this check is yours.”
There was no couple in the world who would do a transactional marriage like this.
People passing by couldn’t help feeling envy, but they didn’t know the little secret this new couple had.
