Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption

Chapter 608

Liz passed the bowl to Jerome, who carefully scooped up a spoonful of the slightly cooled soup and brought it to Lizetta's lips.

"Grandpa and Grandma wanted to wait at the hospital for you to wake up yesterday, but they just couldn't keep their eyes open. They're really worried about you. You've got to take care of yourself and get better soon. Is it too hot?"

Lizetta opened her mouth and drank the pigeon soup from Jerome's hand, shaking her head.

"It's not hot, tastes great."

She actually wanted to feed herself, but she knew Yolanda was up to something.

If this could drive Remington away, she was all for it.

But Remington, with his chilly aura, was sitting on the couch with his legs crossed, watching them without saying a word or leaving.

His presence was so imposing that Lizetta, who already had a small appetite, found swallowing even more difficult.

"Can't eat anymore?" Seeing her like this, Jerome didn't insist and put the soup bowl down, grabbing a napkin.

He reached out to wipe the corner of Lizetta's mouth but was intercepted by another hand.

It was Remington, who seemed to teleport instantly to the other side of the bed.

Jerome, holding the napkin, bumped into Remington's hand and looked up, "What's this about, Mr. Dashiell?"

"She has delicate skin, tissues won't do."Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

Remington, ever so serious, used his thumb to wipe away a small stain of oil from Lizetta's lips, then snatched the napkin from Jerome's hand to clean his own. Sitting there, watching her accept another man's feeding, watching her smile at another man, it felt like his insides were twisting in knots.

And to see another man tenderly wiping her face, he couldn't bear it!

Lizetta, confused, didn't quite catch on to what was happening and frowned slightly.

She didn't want to acknowledge Remington's rudeness and silliness, not even giving him a glance, but turned to Jerome, "I need a favor from you."

Jerome nodded, "I've told you, you don't have to be polite with me."

But Lizetta handed Jerome a document from her bedside.

Remington's expression darkened, "Lizetta, what are you doing?"

He had asked before, if they were to get back together, they'd still need that divorce decree.

That was their divorce decree she was handing to Jerome. For what?

Lizetta still didn't look at Remington, pushing the document towards Jerome.

"I need you to help me verify if this divorce decree is real."

"You think I'd deceive you with a fake?" Remington burst out laughing in anger.

Only then did Lizetta look at him, nodding, "It's not impossible. Since the decree didn't come directly from the civil affairs bureau, who knows if the clerks were actors you hired? Besides, the divorce isn't listed online."

Remington clenched his fists, staring at Lizetta.

She had so little trust in him now.

But then again, when had she started trusting Jerome to this extent?

To entrust Jerome with verifying their divorce decree.

Facing Lizetta's cold gaze, Remington couldn't take it anymore, turned, and strode out with a heavy step.

As he left, Jerome didn't take the

document Lizetta handed him,

instead saying, "You're just trying to make him jealous, right? You don't really need me to check this do you?"

Caught out, Lizetta shook her head and took back the document.

Remington probably wouldn't stoop so low as to lie about that.

She just couldn't stand him acting like he still had a husband's rights over her.

In the hospital's emergency exit, Remington kicked the door open and stormed in, unable to help but punch the wall.

Blood seeped from his knuckles as

he leaned against the wall, slightly

hunch

over and gasping for

breath, a sweet taste in his throat,

his body slightly swaying.

"Remi!" Cassius, who followed him, pushed open the door, his expression changing at the sight.
