Richest Mogul

Chapter 820

Chapter 820

Joe raised his eyebrows slightly. He thought, “Anything else?”

Then he replied, “There’s nothing else. I’m leaving now

As Joe spoke, he was already heading for the door. As his hand touched the handle, Denton suddenly said, “Wait, Joe. Don’t you want to discuss Vera with me?

Joe stopped and turned back. “What is there to discuss about her? Mr. Ruell Senior, you need to rest. Focus on your recovery.”

Without giving Denton a chance to respond, Joe opened the door and walked out. Denton was left astonished.

He wondered if Joe had returned solely to discuss those so–called negative items.

Joe was a good young man, but he had indeed been influenced by Alexander. The fire at the Ruell residence had been confirmed by the police as an accident, and he didn’t believe it was related to any negative items.

Moreover, Joe was incredibly difficult to read. His true feelings about Vera and his intentions for their future remained entirely opaque.

His ability to maintain such a deep level of mystery was precisely why he secured his position at the

Martin family firmly and managed to emerge so prominently.

This elusive nature made him a figure many young people could only admire from a distance.

Despite his skill at hiding his true self, Denton felt Joe was overly reserved about Vera.

Denton found himself with a headache while pondering things. It hadn’t bothered him for the past few days, but now the ache had returned, likely triggered by hearing about these so–called negative items.

Although he didn’t believe in such things, they were still a source of annoyance.

About 20 minutes later, Vera returned to Denton’s ward. The timing was perfect. Joe had already left.

“What did Joe discuss with you, Grandpa?” Vera asked.

Still feeling the headache, Denton replied irritably, “What could he have discussed? He’s clearly playing mind games. It seems he’s trying to manipulate us by raising our expectations.

“He came here claiming that our recent troubles are related to those so–called negative items. He must have heard it from Mr. Gardner Senior and now believes it himself.”

“Is that really the reason he came to see you, Grandpa?” Vera felt uneasy. It was possible that Skylar had been whispering in his ear.

Vera wondered if Joe really believed what Skylar said.

Still, the recent incidents in their family had indeed been strange. She felt doubt creeping in again.

“Yes, I even asked him directly, but he said nothing else. He’s so deep and inscrutable. I’ve seen all kinds of people in my time. There aren’t many who can escape my scrutiny, yet he’s the one I can’t figure out.

“Anyway, I have a headache. You should go now.” Denton waved dismissively, clearly indicating he didn’t want to discuss it further.

Vera left with a heavy heart.

Joe wasn’t there to discuss her matters with Denton. He was only concerned about the series of

accidents affecting their family.

Vera wondered if the accidents were truly caused by those two antiques.

No, it couldn’t be!

Skylar first went to Yancey Residence to check on Janine. Then, she took the subway to meet a college friend, Charlene Dickens.

After graduation, everyone had gone their separate ways.

Upon learning about Skylar’s current job, Charlene asked if she could help authenticate a family heirloom. Charlene explained that no one in her family knew much about it and was worried about being scammed if they sought an appraisal elsewhere, so she thought of asking Skylar for help. They arranged to meet at a café with a great view from the window.

When they met, they exchanged a few pleasantries. Then, Charlene took out a family heirloom–an emerald pendant.

“This emerald pendant was passed down from my great–grandfather. Before he passed away, he said it was handed down through generations and instructed us to keep it safe. He mentioned that if our family ever needed money, we could sell it,” Charlene explained.
