Chapter 444
Seizing the chance, I flung Ethan's hand away from me and darted toward the boarding gate without even sparing him a glance. "Evelyn! Stop right there!" Ethan hollered after me. "Get lost, you filthy security guards. Let go of me!"
He yelled like crazy behind me, but I shut him out. All I wanted was to leave this place as quickly as possible and head home.
After I finally got on the plane, I plopped down and slumped in my seat. Then, I closed my eyes and tried hard to calm my breathing.
The plane took off, and my heart gradually calmed down too.
"Goodbye, Ethan." I thought to myself. "This time, I'm really letting you go."
During the several hours of flight, I slept like the dead. In my dreams, I had returned to that horrible night when Ethan took hold of me to satisfy his needs.
"Don't... Don't do this to me..." I sobbed. Tears blurred my vision, even in my dreams.
Suddenly, I was abruptly roused from my sleep as my seat jolted. My eyes snapped open, and I glanced around, still panting.novelbin
Thank goodness. I was on the plane. That horrible night was a thing of the past.
Wiping the sweat from my brow, I looked out the window. In the sea of clouds, I saw the rising sun. The plane gradually made its descent, and it occurred to me that I was finally back home.
Later, as I stepped out of the airport, I felt as though a long, long time had passed.
I felt as if I was in Lendora just a second ago, and now, I was back home. It all happened so quickly that I couldn't get used to it all.
After I took a deep breath to start this new chapter of life, I hailed a cab and gave the driver my address.
Soon, I was back in the residential area that I couldn't be more familiar with. As I pushed through the doors, a wave of happiness and peace washed over me. At that moment, all I had in mind was to have a good rest and sort out my thoughts. After unpacking my luggage, I fell onto my soft, comfy bed and closed my eyes. However, Ethan's face was the only thing that appeared in my mind.
Once again, my vision was blurred with the tears that welled up in my eyes. I could only wrap my arms around my pillows and let misery and sorrow consume me for a while.
When I couldn't cry anymore, I fell into a deep slumber. It was already bright outside when I woke up.
Rubbing my sore eyes, I was momentarily disconcerted. A moment later, I realized that I was already back home.
Just then, I received a notification from Kevin. He had sent me a message.
"Evelyn, are you home? Are you alright? Ethan called and asked me where you are. He seemed pretty anxious. Did something happen?"
I laughed bitterly and deleted the message without thinking twice. I wanted nothing to do with Ethan.
Pushing myself up from the bed, I freshened up and made myself breakfast. I had some milk, fried eggs, and toast.
"Life goes on," I told myself.
After breakfast, I turned on my
computer and started looking up the latest information on fashion. As a professional fashion designer, it was my obligation to be updated about the current trends in my profession.
It was as I had expected.
Chasen, a clothing fashion brand, would hold a national design competition in a month. Not only would the winner get a handsome sum of prize money, but they would also be invited to join the company by the president of Chasen itself.
My heart raced when I read the announcement regarding the competition. It was a
I
once-in-a-lifetime chance! If I won et
the competition, my future in the fashion industry would be brighter than ever.
And this time, it would have nothing to do with Ethan. I would achieve it all on my own. That would shut the mouths of those who looked down on me. Adrenaline rushed through my veins at the thought.
