Chapter 4
Her blaring alarm jolts her out of her deep slumber, and she tosses on the bed angrily. She just slept off a few hours ago, how come it’s morning already? Will she end up losing her mind?
She groans tiredly as she forces herself to sit on the bed, running her fingers through her hair as she yawns tiredly. It’s as if she has the whole world on her shoulders right now. She just needs some rest, but not when she has to be early to work. She doesn’t want to lose her job, not because she won’t get employed in other places, but just her love for Turner’s enterprise. She has every means of getting a job anywhere, she just prefers to work there.
‘You should work on your manners, Eve’ Jayden’s words echo in her head again, and she scoffs angrily. It has been two weeks since he said that to her, but until now, it is still so difficult to get it off her head. Isn’t he a jerk for saying that to her?
Pushing all the thoughts to the back of her mind, she drags myself out of the bed and strides into the bathroom to have her bath.
A few minutes later…
She glances at her reflection in the mirror for the last time, before she picks up her handbag from the bedside table, and strides out of her room afterward.
Stepping into the lobby, she strides down to the elevator which takes her to the third floor, where her office is located.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
While still inside the elevator, her phone suddenly starts ringing, and she brings it out of her handbag to answer the call, but her countenance changes when she sees the caller. It’s her so-called dad. Is he just remembering that he has a child now? The last time Evelyn remembers speaking with his dad, was three weeks ago, and since then, they’re just talking again now. At times she’d feel so depressed and think of ending her life, but would her parents even care if she dies or not? Why should she kill herself for the people that don’t even care about her? Is it worth it?
She watches as the phone rings and the call ends afterward. Even if she knows that the man won’t call her back, she is still hoping that he does that. She would answer his call if he calls back, but she knows that he won’t, anyway.
A drop of tears slid down the corner of her cheek, but she quickly wipes it off and sighs briefly. Pretending to be fine turns out to be more difficult than the pain. Having to put a smile on her face every day to convince people that she’s fine, is really difficult, but what the hell was she supposed to do? Go around crying? Nah! She would never think of that.
The door finally rolls open, and she steps out while holding her phone, but she collides with someone, and the phone slips off her hand, crashing to the floor with the screen facing the ground. What the heck!
“Are you blind, huh?” She snaps angrily at whoever the idiot is, as she quickly bends down and collects the pieces together, not even bothering to check who the person is.
Standing up to her feet, she finally raises her gaze to check who she just bashed into, but she knows she’s in trouble, the moment she sets her eyes on her boss.
“What did I say about manners?” He asks calmly, crossing his arms on his chest. Mr. Liam is standing behind him.
“I’m sorry, Sir. I didn’t mean it,” She apologizes to him, even as she so much wants to punch him in his face and vent all her anger on him.
“Is this how you go around insulting everyone that comes your way?” He snaps at her angrily.
“I’m sorry, Sir,” She quickly apologizes to him again, trying so hard not to let her anger consume her. As much as she doesn’t want to lose it, and end up doing something stupid, she also knows that she may do that eventually with the way he’s speaking to her now. She’s not that kind of a patient person.
“You don’t talk when I’m talking, Eve! Don’t push me. I can see that you’re not well-mannered. How did you manage to get a job here,” He stares at her questioningly, and she bites her bottom lip.
“Your actions are making me doubt the potential of other workers here, and I think I am getting convinced to do the screening for real. I just hope none of the workers is like you,” He tucks his hands in his pockets, and continues, “Listen to me, Eve. I don’t care about your value to the company, and how long you have been here, if you don’t respect the rules of the company to be respectful and be a good representative out there, then I think you either get ready to be thrown out soon enough, or you turn in your resignation letter now to avoid embarrassment,” he barks at me, and she flinches.
“Like seriously?” She scoffs as she glares hard at him angrily, the urge to slap him rushes through her, but she tries to control it. She wouldn’t want to cause a commotion here, right?
“Oh, please cut that crap! I won’t stand here and watch you say those trash to me when you’re the one at fault,” She fires at him between gritted teeth. The fact that he’s the CEO doesn’t give him the right to walk on anybody he wishes to, it doesn’t give him any right to think he can mess with anyone he wishes to and go scot-free. He can try that with any other person here and will go free, but not with Evelyn Jones. She would never allow that. Even if she’s working in this company, she deserves some respect from him, right?
“One more word from you, and you’re kissing your job goodbye,” He threatens her, and she scoffs.
“Hell with you and the damn job you arrogant jerk! Go to hell with your job, I don’t care. And one more stupid word from you, I’ll give you a deafening slap,” she snaps at him, and he squints his eyes in disbelief…
