Deasy closed her eyes while massaging her forehead repeatedly. In front of her was Veronica, who was there to keep her company.
This weekend, she intentionally took Veronica out, to chat and have dinner together at a famous restaurant. She wanted to share the embarrassing incident she had just experienced with her friend.
“I’m so embarrassed, Veronica, really.”
Deasy let out a long sigh, while Veronica in front of her burst into laughter. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
“And what were you doing on the first day of meeting your new boss? Instead of maintaining your composure and dignity, you went all out showing weird stuff.”
“Well, I just wanted to make sure,” Deasy tried to defend herself.
“But did you have to show him your betta fish tattoo too, Des? That’s insane! Lucas is your boss, you know. I bet he was shocked when you suddenly unbuttoned your shirt to show the kiss mark that he didn’t even leave.”
Deasy’s shoulders slumped. No matter what, she often acted recklessly. But for some reason, this time she felt incredibly embarrassed.
“I thought that by showing the hickey on my chest, Lucas would understand and confess that he was the one who did it and slept with me. But, contrary to my expectations, he just looked shocked and couldn’t say anything. What should I do, Ve? I feel like I want to jump into the sea.”
Veronica burst into laughter again, finding Deasy’s story not pitiful, but rather amusing.
“You’re lucky you didn’t get fired right away. Your actions were way over the top, Des. Anyone would feel uncomfortable.”
Deasy nodded. She even cursed herself for her foolishness. Despite Lucas Orion insisting that he made the gesture, Deasy still believed it was the handsome Lucas who left the mark on his chest.
“Everything excessive is not good, except money, Ve. What else can I do? I just wanted to make sure. But whether it was him or someone else who put me to sleep yesterday, I’m still going to pursue and win Lucas’ heart. That perfect handsome boss has to be mine.”
Veronica raised her eyebrows. She looked dismissive and then laughed. Actually, when it came to confidence, Deasy was the expert.
“Are you sure you can win over your new boss? What if he has his own standards for a partner? Just imagine if none of the qualities he’s looking for match with you?”
Deasy sighed. Instead of being supportive, Veronica was belittling her efforts.
“Don’t get all heated up, Ve. I’m not a pushover. So, no need to heat things up, especially like this. What’s so hard about improving myself to become his ideal type? Whatever it takes, I’ll do it to catch Lucas’ attention.”
Veronica shook her head. Deasy was undeniably crazy.
“Well, okay, if it’s about self-improvement, I believe you can do it. But what if the problem is that Lucas already has a girlfriend or maybe a fiancée?”
“Come on… Sharks eat plankton. Well, let it be. Like the saying goes, until the yellow coconut leaf waves, it means it’s still shared, right? Besides, do you really think I’m too chaotic for the outstanding seed like Lucas?”
Veronica ran out of words. It was tiring to deal with Deasy, who always had a comeback for every piece of advice and criticism she gave.
Ending their random discussion, Veronica and Deasy decided to leave. Just as they were about to get up, Deasy seemed to strike gold.
It was like fate had perfectly prepared this encounter. Or maybe it was destiny that couldn’t be avoided. Deasy accidentally met Lucas. And as she observed, their eyes eventually met and clashed.
“Ve… Veronica!” Deasy whispered, never taking her eyes off Lucas, who was walking into the restaurant.
“What’s going on?”
“My handsome prince is here.”
Veronica looked puzzled.
“Who?”
“Lucas,” answered Deasy in a whisper, then tilted her chin to signal to Veronica about the direction of the man she was talking about. “There, at 3 o’clock. He’s wearing a black shirt. Seriously, he’s so handsome.”
“At 3 o’clock? It’s already 9 o’clock, Des.”
“Veronica, ugh! I’m serious.”
Ignoring the embarrassment that had settled and, of course, disregarding Veronica’s lack of cooperation, Deasy flashed her best smile at Lucas.
To her delight, Lucas even responded with a friendly smile. Unexpectedly, he approached her and greeted Deasy as they got closer.
“Mr. Lucas, good evening.”
“Good evening. Ms. Deasy, are you also dining here?”
Deasy nodded.
“Yes, sir. I just finished and was about to leave.”
“Ah, that’s a shame. We could have had dinner together.”
Deasy blushed like a salted worm. She was flustered when talking to Lucas. She couldn’t stay calm!
“But… if Mr. Lucas insists, I don’t mind eating again.”
Veronica turned and rolled her eyes. She couldn’t fathom Deasy’s behavior. Her friend had eaten a lot before.
“Who are you with, Mr. Lucas?” Deasy dared to ask.
Lucas smiled.
“I’m with —-”
“My dear…”
From behind Lucas, another woman appeared, tall and elegant, with flowing hair and a beautiful appearance. Approaching Lucas, she immediately held his hand, as if they were an inseparable couple.
Seeing this, Deasy fell silent. Surprised, or perhaps heartbroken, she realized that the Lucas she had set her sights on was actually here with someone else.
