PHB 14
“Have you understood everything? If there’s nothing else to ask, I have to go back, Son.”
Andreas, who had been talking in Lucas’s office, was ready to leave. He reminded his son to focus on the new responsibilities he had been given.
“Alright, Dad. I’ve got everything.”
“Then I’ll wait for Daniel and Daniel’s reports as soon as possible. Hopefully, everything will be gradually settled next month, and after that, you can focus on preparing for the wedding.”
Lucas simply nodded. He was honestly not eager to discuss the topic of marriage with his father. However, to avoid a lengthy argument, he agreed with what was asked of him.
Meanwhile, in the finance division’s office, the staff members were gathered, talking excitedly. They were all busy gossiping about the new boss, who would begin his long-vacant duties today.
Deasy herself appeared to be eavesdropping from her office. Somehow, she became interested in what her staff members were gossiping about this morning.
“Wow, our new boss is such a refreshing sight. Handsome, tall, fair-skinned, and even smells good.”
Della, the blonde girl, was heard gushing. She had been praising Lucas’s dazzling appearance since earlier.
“How do you know he smells good?” the bespectacled male staff asked curiously.
“Oh my God, Andro. Lucas passed by our room earlier. I’m sure his perfume is a luxurious brand. The fragrance lingered for a long time.”
“Exaggerating. We, guys in this room, smell good too.”
“Not the same. Lucas’s scent is incredible. It makes my heart skip a beat.”
“What are you, a koi fish or something, Del? Talking about skipping a beat,” Andro teased.
“But, speaking of perfumes, I feel like I’ve smelled it before, like a familiar scent,” Starla chimed in, trying to recall. For some reason, she was certain of what she was feeling.
“Oh, it’s just your imagination. Acting like you’re familiar with his scent and all.”
“No, really, I am. But I can’t put my finger on where I’ve smelled it before.”
“Enough about that. Let’s talk about whether he has a girlfriend or not.”
“He probably does. Someone as handsome as him.”
“It would be such a shame if he’s already taken. But as they say, before the wedding day, we’re all still available, right?”
“If you want a single guy, you and Lucas Orion should go for it. He’s single until the end of time,” Andro said and instantly made Della roll her eyes in annoyance.
“Just because they both have the name Lucas doesn’t mean their destinies are the same,” Della retorted.
“Besides, even if our new boss is single, there’s no way he’d be interested in corporate underlings like us, Del,” Starla said, trying to bring Della back to reality. “More likely, he’ll go after someone like Ms. Deasy, the model.”
“Exactly!” Della’s response surprised the others. “Compared to Daniel, Ms. Deasy is more his type, sophisticated and beautiful. Perfect match.”
Andro groaned. He was getting tired of hearing his female colleagues gossiping about their new boss.
“Instead of talking about his looks, why don’t we just observe and see what this new boss is capable of? He might be all looks and no substance.”
“Ugh, so jealous,” Starla retorted, not wanting to hear her newfound idol being spoken ill of.
“Not jealous. I’m just worried that he’s all about looks but lacks the skills. Besides, who are we? Why are we even playing matchmaker for our new boss and Ms. Deasy?”
In her office, Deasy kept eavesdropping, smiling to herself. What were they saying? She believed that she would be a perfect match for a handsome guy like Lucas, the kind she had been dreaming about for some time now.
Lost in her thoughts, the intercom on Deasy’s desk rang. It was her new secretary, asking her to meet with Lucas and bring some financial reports for him to review.
As fate would have it, Deasy happily went to meet Lucas in his office. Without much ado, she handed over the files that Lucas had requested. She hoped that she would use this opportunity to ask him some questions, especially about the man she believed had been with her before.
“Excuse me, Mr. Lucas. Here are the files you asked for.”
Lucas nodded, accepting the folder that Deasy handed to him.
“Thank you.”
“Is there anything else you need, Mr. Lucas?”
Lucas looked up, thinking about what he might require. Since he had access to information that he previously didn’t have, he wanted to make use of it.
“Can I get the financial reports of all the managers at Quantum Tech, without exception?”
Deasy immediately nodded.
“Sure, Sir. When do you need it?”
“As soon as possible. I want to check and review them right away.”
“In that case, I’ll collect and provide the files right away.”
Lucas nodded and let Deasy leave. Fifteen minutes later, she returned with the requested files.
“I’ve put everything in the folder, Sir. The rest is in soft file format, and I’ll send the documents to your special email.”
“Okay, thank you. You can go back to work.”
Deasy nodded but still didn’t leave. Even though Lucas had given her permission to continue working.
“Why? Is there something you want to say?” Lucas questioned when he noticed Deasy still standing there without moving.
“I want to make sure of something, Sir.”
Lucas looked at her, observing her closely. His gaze didn’t shift away from Deasy, who was standing in front of him.
“Make sure of something? What is it?”
“That… uh… Sir.”NôvelDrama.Org content.
“What’s wrong?”
“Huh? Nothing’s wrong.”
“Then?”
“I just want to make sure that we’ve met before, right? At one of the Bars?”
Lucas smiled and shook his head.
“I’ve never met you before. The first time we met was at the inauguration event.”
“Really, Sir? But I feel like I’m so familiar with you.”
“Do you mean my face is common?”
Deasy immediately shook her head, denying what Lucas had just said. With courage she didn’t know she had, she sought certainty from her boss.
“N-no, Sir. That’s not what I mean. It’s just that, I’m sure we’ve met before and even did something.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow.
“Did something? What do you mean?”
“Hmmm…” Deasy didn’t reply immediately. She seemed lost in thought.
“What is it?” Lucas pressed.
“Something like making out.”
Lucas laughed again. Then he casually looked at Deasy.
“How could I make out with you if I don’t even know you?”
Deasy shook her head again. Stepping forward and leaning in a bit, she unbuttoned her blazer slightly to show something that was previously hidden.
“But seriously, you made this betta fish tattoo on my chest, right? Just admit it, Sir.”
