Riesa then whispered, "It's such a pity that the actress on stage with him isn't very talented. I think you'd do a much better job than her." This upset Yuliana.

She glared at Riesa. "What do you mean by that? Are you comparing me to some lousy unknown actress?!"

Riesa immediately took back her comment and said fearfully, "No, of course not Yuliana! Everyone knows who you are! They know that you're merely a step away from becoming the first lady of Nashaland! Someone as distinguished as you can't be compared to an actress!"

"I mean that actress is nowhere as beautiful as you, Yuliana! She'd need to be half as beautiful as you are to even qualify for the role! That's what I meant when I said you'd be so much better than her at it!"

Yuliana relaxed.

She snorted, "Well that goes without saying. How else do you think I'd be able to marry into the Quartley family if not for my beauty? Don't you ever compare me to anyone ever again! Like you'd know if they were even worthy of such a thing."
