Chapter 1490
Since he was already here, Stephen decided to make Simona understand that she could only be his girlfriend.
His words caused the crowd to start whispering again.
Someone who couldn't stand Stephen pointed at him and scolded, "Who do you think you are? We know your history! Do you think we've forgotten what you did recently?
"You've been playing with girls' feelings since middle school. Simona was smart to see through you and break up with you-she made the right choice!"novelbin
"Exactly! Do you think breaking up is like a divorce and needs your consent? Your opinion isn't worth a dime!"
"You're just shamelessly bullying a girl!"
"Clearly, he doesn't want to let go because Simona comes from a good family. But look at him—what can he even bring to the table?"
"I read online that his family has a terrible reputation back in their village. No one wants to associate with them."
"But Stephen seems to really care about Simona. Everyone makes mistakes. Her breaking up now feels like abandoning him in his time of need." "That's bullshit! If you like someone like Stephen, go after him yourself! Don't let my goddess end up with this trash."
The crowd started arguing as they started taking sides.
Stephen's expression soured when he heard people insulting him. He cursed each and every one of them in his heart, convinced that they were just jealous of his excellence.
Did they think he didn't know that they secretly liked Simona? It was just that they were too unattractive and incapable of pursuing her. So, all they could do was fantasize.
Simona didn't care about what anyone else was saying.
Ever since she'd started carrying the talisman Skylar gave her, she saw right through Stephen's manipulative behavior.
He claimed to like her, but everything he did was disgusting. She realized how blind she had been to date someone so vile.
"I must've been blind to have liked you before. But my eyes are fine now. Sorry, I don't just like any random trash," Simona said with a mocking smile.
Stephen flushed red. "What about
what you said when we first got together? You promised we'd face all hardships together. Now that I'm going through a tough time, you're breaking up with me? Isn't that too pragmatic?"
"You're right. Lam pragmatic. After we got together, how much of my money did you spend? Everywhere we went, was the one paying. So, yes, I'm a real pragmatic," Simona retorted, showing no intention of sparing Stephen's dignity.
Harvey, who had just finished a gaming session and went out fora walk, saw the scene from a distance. He recognized Simona and remembered Skylar treating her like a younger sibling.
Curious, he stopped to watch and even recorded the scene. He was ready to step in if she needed help.
But after listening for a while, he realized that Simona had already figured out Stephen's true colors. There was no need for him to intervene, though he stayed nearby just in case.
Stephen shamelessly persisted. "I spent money on you too! My family is poor, and I couldn't meet your high standards, but that doesn't mean you should look down on me.
"Simona, I didn't expect you to be so materialistic. I'm just a poor student now, but I'll work hard after graduation, make money, and do my best to treat you well."
Some young women who had always envied Simona began siding with Stephen.
"Simona has always been so arrogant, acting like she's better than us ordinary people." "Yeah, she barely talks to any of us."
