Chapter 485 The New Intern
Jack lifted the quilt, picked up Andy and walked out. "Andy, I'll send you to a better kindergarten from next week, okay?"
"But why?" Andy asked curiously. "Dad, I already have friends here. I don't want to change."
"It will be fine. You will be able to make new friends there." Jack's persuasive voice gradually faded away. Covering the quilt with her hands, Rachel beamed.
This was the biggest disagreement between the two of them over the years, but Jack was oblivious. And yet Rachel used her way to make him realize his mistake.
Rachel picked up her phone, and sent him the number of the kindergarten near their home.
It was not until Jack read the message that he realized he had fallen into the trap set by Rachel from the beginning.
The problem which could have caused a fight between them was solved like that.
After she gave birth to Andy, Rachel had transferred to the cardiology department. Since then, she had devoted herself to her work diligently. Therefore, she took over the position of director once the previous one retired. On this day, when Rachel was packing up and about to get off work, her phone rang. James's voice came clearly. "Rachel, are you still working?"
"Yes, I am." Rachel stopped what she was doing. "Uncle James, is everything okay?"
"Come to my office, I have to talk to you."
After hanging up the phone, Rachel walked towards his office. As soon as she entered, he handed her a resume. "This is the grandson of one of my friends. He just graduated from medical school and wants to be an intern in our hospital. I want you mentor him. What do you think?"
"Well..." Rachel was a little hesitant. "Uncle James, isn't it a little inappropriate for me?"
"Why? I think you are the most suitable one. You are the director, and your professionalism is well known. Just do me this favor."
Rachel debated, but had to nod in agreement.
The next day when the intern reported with his resume, Rachel was met with a familiar face. She felt they had met before, but could not remember where.
Apparently the intern was thinking the same. "Rachel, have you forgotten? You gave a graduate lecture in our school. I showed you around the campus." It all came back to her. "Oh, yes, I remember it." Rachel pondered back to last July, when she was invited back to her college as an outstanding graduate to attend a lecture. One part of the lecture was to show these graduates around the current college. The person who led her was standing in front of Rachel.
"I was not expecting this coincidence. Rachel, let me introduce myself again. My name is Jay Yang, and you can call me Jay."
"Okay, Jay. Shall we start?" After shaking his hand, Rachel spread out a set of work notes on the table and began to explain some points in detail.
Jack heard about the intern from Michael. It was a coincidence that Michael's father felt a little uncomfortable in the heart that day, so they went to the hospital to ask for Rachel's help. He had seen Jay Yang following behind her and speaking to her very closely.
Michael had laid out the scene to Jack, and told him what he had seen.
After his father being declared healthy, Michael fetched a taxi for the old man and drove straight to Jack's himself.
Michael's father was so angry that he kept cursing and tapping on his crutch, but Michael didn't hear a word at all. After listening to Michael's narration, Jack felt very uncomfortable though he didn't show it on his face. After making love that night, he questioned Rachel, "I heard that there is a new intern in your department?"
"How did you know that?" Rachel was uneasy as she felt sticky and wet. She wanted to go to the bathroom to wash her body, but Jack held her hands and she couldn't move at all.
Jack ignored her question and his face darkened. "Why do I hear that he is good to you?"
It was a normal sentence, but it was said in such a gloomy tone that it made Rachel frown. "He is good to everyone in the department."
"But I heard that he is especially kind and attentive to you," he replied sourly.
Rachel pressed, "Who told you that? What nonsense are you talking about?"
"I just heard about it. Just tell me if it's true." Rachel suspected it was Michael who told him, but she did not express her thoughts out loud.
She pushed away Jack's hand and walked to the bathroom. "Why are you so jealous?" she asked rhetorically.
On the other side of town, Michael was chatting with his friends at the bar. He abruptly sneezed a couple of times. A girl sitting nearby put a suit jacket on his shoulders and asked, concern lining her voice, "Michael, are you okay? Did you catch a cold?"
"Why do you think that? Do I look like a person with such a poor stamina?" Just as he finished his words, he felt cold as a shiver rose from the soles of his feet.
The next morning Jack dropped off Rachel at the hospital. When she unfastened her seat belt, he swiftly turned off the engine and got out of the car.
Rachel raised her eyebrows. "Why did you get out? Don't you have to go to your company?"
"I'll walk you in." After responding, Jack paid no heed to her reply as he took her hands and walked towards her department. On the way, he warmly waved to every nurse and doctor who were passing by. Seeing him like this, Rachel was starting to feel anxious. "What are you doing?"
"I used to keep a low profile. Now I want all of your colleagues in the hospital to know that I'm your husband!" Jack smiled warmly as he looked towards her, which only made her more confused. She shook her head incredulously, as she stated, "Don't worry. Everyone in the hospital knows that my husband is Jack Fu."
"Sure, the old employees might. But what about those new ones?" Jack snorted as he looked down at their hands. "You don't wear a wedding ring. Maybe those who just came in think that you are still unmarried?"
Jack was brimming with resentment but kept control on his emotions. After all, it was because of the work requirements that Rachel couldn't wear the wedding ring all the time.
Feeling guilty and embarrassed, Rachel closed her mouth and didn't say anything. When they reached her office, she finally said, "You can go to the company now. Didn't you say that there is a meeting to be held this morning?"
"It's okay, I am in no hurry." Jack seemed apathetic, but he didn't leave. Instead, he kept looking around especially at the doctor's office on the other side.
Following his gaze, Rachel immediately understood what he was doing. She knitted her brows together. "He's on a leave. He has to go back to school to go through some formalities today. Why do you want to see him?"
Looking at her confused expression, Jack clenched his fists. "I must know him better so that I can defeat him."
"What are you talking about?" Rachel
was feeling more distressed by the second, as she reached out and rubbed her aching forehead saying, "Besides Jay wouldn't fight you. You are getting worked up over nothing." "You don't know that, I'm always ready." Looking at the disdainful look on her face, Jack felt like he had made a fuss. He waved his hand helplessly and assured, "Forget it. I won't talk about it anymore."
Despite conceding, he had an idea brewing in his mind.
Long after Jack left, she could not focus properly. She believed that he was being unreasonable and worrying over nothing. After that day, she continued taking Jay Yang with her every day, and teaching him about real medical cases. She was so wrapped up trying to be a good instructor that she almost forgot about the incident with Jack.
One day, Rachel received a call from Tracy, who told her she would not be able to pick up Andy fromContent property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Tracy, who told
kindergarten as she had something to deal with. Seeing that there was not a lot of work going on in the hospital, Rachel was about to leave When Jay pushed the door in.
He stood in front of the desk, hesitating for a long time without saying a word.
Rachel was a little anxious. "Jay, what can I do for you? If it's not an urgent matter, can it wait till tomorrow?"
"Rachel." Jay called her, contemplating for the right words.
Raising her head to look at him, Rachel waited for him to continue. When he didn't, she looked down at her watch again and said, "Jay, I'm really in a hurry. If you have anything to say, please hurry up."
"It's my birthday. I was wondering, if you have time tonight? How about having dinner together?" As he spoke, he reached out to grab the back of his neck. Embarrassment was written all over his face, which made Rachel's heart beat heavily.
'Was Jack right to worry?' she wondered.
