Chapter 30
Chapter 30
About half an hour after Rebecca got in the taxi, she received another call from Adam who told her that he would be waiting at the entrance of New York University.
Rebecca said "okay" and hung up.
Rebecca saw a black Land Rover waiting not far from the entrance when she arrived.
She got out of the taxi and walked to the black Land Rover.
She opened the back door and sat in.
She fastened the seat belt but said nothing, nor did she look at the man in the driver's seat.
Adam looked at her from the rearview mirror.
His dark eyes were gloomy and as cold as ice.
However, there was also a hint of anger beneath his icy look.
Nobody could tell why he got angry.
He started the car after Rebecca had her seat belt fastened.
Nobody said anything along the way.
Rebecca took out her earphone, leaned against the window and started to listen to the music with her eyes closed.
Adam saw her from the rearview mirror and felt angrier.
There was not much traffic on Saturday.
It took them about an hour and a half to get to the house of the Williams Family.
Adam unbuckled his seat belt and stared at Rebecca in the rearview mirror as soon as they stopped.
Unexpectedly, Rebecca opened her eyes and started to unbuckle her seat belt.
He thought that she was asleep.
"You know the consequences if you dare to talk nonsense!"
When they got out of the car, Adam walked to Rebecca and whispered a warning in her ear.
Rebecca paused and looked at him.
After a second, she withdrew her gaze and continued to walk into the main building.
Yes, he hated her so much.
How could he believe her? If he ever believed her, he would not hate her but like her! However, within a few steps, Rebecca's hand was wrapped in a warm palm.
Her body tensed up and looked sideways.
The hand was beautiful, big, fair, slender, and well-defined.
It was Adam's hand. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Adam held her hand tightly and walked side by side with her.
He warned her in a low voice in her ear again, "Play your part well and don't show any flaws."
She looked away and said, "Okay”
"Mr.and Mrs.Williams, you're back!"
The butler, Mr.Williams, stood at the door and greeted them with a smile.
"Hello, Uncle Williams!"
Rebecca nodded and greeted him warmly. He responded with a smile.
"Adam, you're back.Come on, hurry up!"
Julia came out of the kitchen. She welcomed them when she saw them.
"Mother.How are you doing?"
"Mother.How are you?"
Rebecca and Adam greeted Julia together.
"I'm Fine! Everything's good!"
Julia replied joyfully.
She didn't look at Rebecca at all but only had eyes on her son and asked, "What took you so long? It's almost seven now.’’
"Something delayed us a little."
Adam smiled and was still holding Rebecca's hand tightly.
Rebecca stood beside him, hand in hand with him, and played along.
Julia nodded with a smile and said to the butler, "Please, go get Arthur down.Dinner is ready.”
"Yes, madam."
He nodded and went upstairs to find Arthur.
"Come here, Adam.Let me have a good look. How have you been during the past few days? Was the food outside fine for your taste?"
As she spoke, she raised her hand and tried to touch Adam's face. However, Adam waved her hand away.
"Morn, I'm fine.I'm married now! Don't worry, Rebecca has been taking good care of me."
As he spoke, he looked at Rebecca lovingly.
Rebecca also looked at him and smiled faintly, with a hint of happiness.
She really did play her part well.
Julia seemed to have just noticed Rebecca.
She compressed her lips and looked at Rebecca.
Her face immediately darkened, and she said in a harsh tone, "Don't just think about yourself! Take good care of Adam! You know it's on you if anything happens to him."
Rebecca looked at Julia, smiled obediently and said, "I will"
"You're back!"
At this moment, Arthur came down and said happily.
"Father.How are you?"
"Father.How are you?"
"Good, good,"
Arthur nodded and said, "Let's have dinner."
"Yes, sir’
"Becca, now you're in your second year of the master's program.Have you started your internship yet?"
The dinner table at the Williams Family was usually a quiet place.
But today, Arthur started talking to Rebecca as soon as they sat down.
Rebecca looked at Arthur and shook her head slightly.
She didn't know why he suddenly asked her this, but she answered honestly, "Not yet.Maybe at the beginning of the next semester.I still have some core courses to take for this semester, as well as exams."
"Sounds good,"
Arthur nodded and said faintly while he was eating.
"You are the daughter-in-law of the Williams Family. If you need an internship, don't go anywhere else.Just come to the Matthey Group. There are many positions for you.Let Adam arrange for you later"
Julia hadn't expected to hear this and turned to Arthur immediately.
Even Julia, as the chairman's wife, never interfered with the business decisions of the Matthey Group.
She was surprised to hear that Arthur asked Rebecca to work for the Group at such a young age.
"That would be much appreciated! Thank you, dad" Rebecca thanked Arthur.
No matter what his purpose was, she did not hesitate.
She just smiled and agreed to what he said.
Adam was sitting next to her, but surprisingly, he didn't make any objections.
"Arthur, Rebecca is still young.Besides, what can she do in the company? Do chores for others?"
Julia was not happy with his decision and asked Arthur.
"Rebecca has two master's degrees in both finance and international business. What do you think she can do?"
Arthur took a sip of the soup and asked Julia instead.
After Arthur had read Rebecca's paper on Wall Street Journal, he realized that the Williams Family was so lucky to have Rebecca as a daughter-in-law.
Julia couldn't say anything.
She looked at Arthur speechlessly and felt more depressed.
Rebecca sat across from her but did not dare to look at Julia. She lowered her head and continued cating.
"Adam, did you read Becca's paper?"
Arthur asked Adam just as everyone went silent.
Adam had been eating all along.
He put down his tableware, smiled, and looked at Rebecca gently.
He nodded and said, "Yes, I did"
"What clo you think about it?" Arthur asked! again.
Rebecca glanced at Arthur, then lowered her head and kept eating.
"It's quite good.very practical."
Adam nodded and replied with a very pertinent comment.
Rebecca glanced at Adam with surprise.
She hadn't expected him to say good things about her.
Arthur nodded.
"Well, you guys can share views and learn from each other from now on.’
"Will do.” Adam said, then turned to look at Rebecca and talked to her with a genetic smile, "Did you hear that? Don't just read your books when you are at home.Talk to me more, and we can share our ideas."
Rebecca looked at Adam.
The smile and love in his cycs, the tenderness, and sweetness in his words almost made her believe that she had fallen into a whirl of happiness.
But that's not the case.
"This was him acting! It was all fake! Wake up, Rebecca!"
She tried to remind herself.
"Okay, Rebecca agreed faintly.” Then, she lowered her head…
