Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 442

Selena was fuming, her chest rising and falling with barely contained anger. She knew he was a piece of work, but she never imagined just how low he could go. Was locking her up indefinitely his twisted version of punishment for trying to escape?

"What if I refuse to give in, even if it kills me?" she spat, each word forced out through gritted teeth.

Everett paused, his eyes locked onto her fiery gaze. He gently brushed a thumb over her furrowed brow, trying to ease the tension.

His demeanor seemed to have softened, likely content after some physical satisfaction, and his voice took on an unexpected gentleness. But his words were harsh.

"Mrs. Bennett, don't push me. There are things I'd rather not do to you, things you wouldn't want to see. Besides... you wouldn't want your uncle and brother to live in constant fear, would you?" "Or maybe you'd rather have them join you on this lonely island? I wouldn't mind, after all... we're family."

The word 'family' coming from him felt like a cruel joke, leaving Selena feeling as if she'd been plunged into a cold void.

Despite her deep hatred, she was painfully aware of the world's unfairness, a place where the strong preyed on the weak.

Even if Everett was the worst of the worst, his power meant she had no choice but to play along.

She knew her escape attempt was her only shot at freedom. If she'd succeeded, everything would've been fine.

But now that she hadn't, she was certain he wouldn't give her another chance.

With a bitter smile, Selena fell silent.Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

Everett, sensing it was best not to push further, det the conversation drop. Harping on certain issues could strain their already fragile relationship. She was angry now, but once on the deserted island, she could rest and find some peace,

away from outside pressures.

Once the baby was born, once she embraced motherhood again, and once she got used to having him around, her drifting thoughts would eventually return to him and their child, to their family.

And in a year or two, Callum

wouldn't stay single forever. After this mess, Gabriel would definitely take a keen interest in his marriage prospects. The Campbell family dynamics weren't any simpler than the Bennett's. Sooner or later, he too would find himself in a strategic marriage.

The room fell silent again, with just the sound of their breathing breaking the stillness.

Everett had thought sleep would elude him. With business matters, dealing with Callum, and searching for Selena, his mind was always on high alert, and sleep was rare. Even the slightest noise would jolt him awake.

But now, with his head nestled into the curve of Selena's neck, soothed by her familiar scent, he drifted off.

The next morning.

As the first rays of dawn crept across the sky, Everett suddenly woke, eyes snapping open.

His arms were empty.

A flash of panic quickly subsided when he saw Selena hadn't vanished. She'd just curled up at the edge of the bed, as if any small move might send her tumbling off. Clearly, she was still mad at him, keeping her distance.

Everett's racing heart calmed. The past few nights, every time he lay in their bed, it felt like she was still there. But opening his eyes only revealed a haunting emptiness.
