Chapter 24 We Are Both Blind

“Who do you think you are? Why should I tell you anything?” Gwen stood up slowly, her tone dripping with disdain as she raised an eyebrow at him in mockery.

At that moment, jake realized something–they were divorced. He was no longer in the position to ask her these questions anymore. But as soon as the thought crossed his mind, another, more unsettling emotion rose in him…

Gwen, who had once belonged to him, was now possibly in the arms of another man. His eyes narrowed, and a surge of possessiveness bubbled up within him, though he couldn’t explain why.

“What was the real reason behind our divorce?” Jake’s voice turned dark and brooding.

Gwen’s lips curved into a bitter smile, her voice filled with icy amusement. “It’s been so long, and you still think that’s worth asking?

She stared directly into his dark eyes without blinking. “There’s only one reason–because I’ve had enough.” “What were you so unhappy about?” Jake snapped, his frustration bubbling to the surface.

“For three years, you had everything you needed in the Hall family. You had a high–ranking position by my side. How is your life now any different?”

He paused, a thought flashing in his mind–the memory of that night before their divorce when Gwen had tried to get close to him.

“Is it because I didn’t touch you?”

ep once,

Jake had his reasons for not being intimate with Gwen. He’d heard her murmur another man’s name in her sleep and his pride had been wounded ever since. It had driven a wedge between them, leading to a marriage with zero intimacy.

Upon hearing his words, Gwen let out a cold laugh. “Is that really how your brain works?”

“Well then, I’ll fix that right now!” Jake suddenly strode toward her, grabbing her face as he tried to kiss her.

Gwen shoved him away with all her strength and slapped him across the face hard.

His cheek burned from the blow, and he bit down on his tongue to keep his anger in check, glaring at Gwen with a storm of emotions he couldn’t decipher.

Tears welled up in the corners of Gwen’s eyes, her chest heaving with anger.

This idiot actually thought she had left him just because they were never intimate. What had she ever seen in Jake?

Steadying her breath, she glared at him. “For three years, you only saw what you wanted to see. You’re blind–what’s the difference between you and someone who can’t see at all?”

Her eyes grew colder, laced with mockery. “Then again, I was the first to be blind–blind to think you would ever love

‘From now on, you and I are nothing but strangers. Don’t ever bother me again.”

With that, she grabbed the pocket watch and brushed past him without a second glance. “And sign the divorce papers already. If you keep dragging your feet, I’ll have my lawyer handle it.”

With a loud bang, the door slammed shut, leaving Jake alone, stunned and motionless.

His mind replayed the image of Gwen’s tear–filled eyes–a rare glimpse of vulnerability from her that he hadn’t seen before. He couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Was their marriage really as miserable as she had said it was?

Gwen rushed to the balcony, her gown rustling as she moved. She leaned against the railing, taking in the peaceful

down.

To her right, a hand holding a handkerchief appeared. “Here. Wipe your tears.”

She turned to find a strikingly handsome man with bright eyes standing next to her. He was tall and well–built, dressed impeccably in a tailored suit, his expression warm as he flashed a dazzling smile at her.

When she didn’t take the handkerchief, the man stepped closer and gently dabbed at her tears himself.

“Such beautiful eyes shouldn’t be all puffy from crying. Want me to cry for you instead?” he teased with a playful glint

in his eyes.

He had arrived on the balcony just in time to see the intriguing woman who had caught his attention at the auction- the same woman who had outbid Sienna earlier.

Under the starry sky, Gwen stood in her red gown, her face shimmering with tears, exuding a fragile beauty that was impossible to ignore.

Theodore had been completely captivated by the scene and couldn’t resist stepping closer.

Gwen couldn’t help but laugh at his joke, taking the handkerchief from him and wiping her tears.

“Hello, I’m Theodore, CEO of Quinn Group. May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?” He introduced himself with a charming smile.

“Oh, and thanks for helping me drive up the price on that jade bracelet earlier. I’ll send you a thank–you gift sometime.

Gwen’s smile vanished instantly. It was her rival! Theodore!
