Chapter 351 Her Ex-Husband Is Really Dead
Suddenly, a thunder resounded through the air.
The torrential rain brought wetness to the entire Poya. It was autumn, and it was getting cold.
Hailey stayed up for almost a night. She sat by the window, wrapped in a shawl, and looked at the rain outside. She really wanted to go out and get wet.
There were two bottles of imported wine on the ground. It was whisky of high alcohol concentration.
In fact, Hailey had a low tolerance, and it was easy for her to get drunk and make a fool of herself.
But today, the more she drank, the soberer she became.
In fact, she wanted to get drunk and then fell asleep.
She felt so sad when she was up.
This kind of sadness was very strange, with indescribable bitterness and empty feeling.
Waves of loneliness and pain flushed over her again and again.
As her heart thumped, she felt pain.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Brook came in with a tray in his hand.
Behind him stood many figures who craned their necks to look into the room.
As soon as the door was pushed open, the brothers smelled alcohol and frowned.
“Go in there!” Kyle, who was standing behind them, pushed Brook.
With a tray in his hand, Brook walked towards Hailey and said cautiously, “Hailey, don’t drink so much. You must feel uncomfortable now. Eat some soup to warm yourself up.”
Randal and Kyle followed, “Yeah, Hailey. Stop drinking! Eat the soup.”
Jared followed them silently without saying a word and furrowed his brows as he looked at
Hailey’s pale face.
Hailey didn’t ignore him. She turned around, looked at her brothers, and said, “I’m not hungry. I’ll eat it in a while.”
The brothers were at a loss. They couldn’t force her, and all of them looked back at Karl, who came in the last.
With a wave of his hand, Karl said, “Just put it here. I’ll watch her eat.”
Brook and the others cast Hailey a worried look and went out, feeling dejected.
After Owen’s death, Hailey was in low spirits all the time. Due to their lovely girl’s frustration, the whole family became quiet with an indescribable depression.
Everything seemed to go back to three and a half years ago when Nancy and Scott died in a car accident.
Hailey’s eyes had been red and swollen for nearly a month.
Owen’s death gave her a heavy blow, which caused her to have a frozen heart.
The brothers all knew what kind of role Owen played in Hailey’s life.
They would never forget how happy Hailey looked when she mentioned Owen in the past. He was her hope, the light of her life.
Although they were jealous and teased her more than once, they really hoped that she could be happy.
Some people couldn’t fall in love in their whole lives, and it was lucky of Hailey to meet someone she really loved.
Therefore, when Owen had a car accident back then, she pretended to be dead and went to
North City, marrying him without any hesitation. Her brothers had originally opposed it, but they hadn’t stopped it resolutely.
If they had known that so many things would happen later, even if she hated them, they would never have agreed to let her stay with Owen for three years.
Unfortunately, there was no if, and one could never turn the clock back. Perhaps, this was the so-called fate.
Brook also felt a little depressed. “To be honest, I’m also very sad. Although Owen didn’t treat Hailey well when they were married, he really wanted to make up for it when he was alive. He even risked his life…”
Brook choked and couldn’t continue.
Kyle’s eyes were also filled with sadness. “Maybe he just wanted to make it up in this way. But people can’t be revived after death. The price he paid is too high. They could have lived a happy life together.”
Jared took a deep drag on his cigarette and gazed down. “What’s the point of saying something like this now? Owen is dead. No matter what he did to Hailey, there’s no point in mentioning it. The most important thing now is to cheer Hailey up.”
Randal sighed, “I’m afraid it would be hard for her to get over it. A man she has loved for ten years died in this way. Who would be able to bear such pain?”
The four men sighed at the same time, feeling sorry for Owen and Hailey.
Their sister was so pitiful.
“Eat something,” Karl said to Hailey. “Drinking without eating is bad for your health. You’re a doctor. You don’t need me to tell you about it, do you?”
Hailey didn’t want to eat anything, but after a glance at Karl’s face, she still ate the soup.
Before she could finish it, her stomach began to churn.
She jumped to her feet suddenly, covered her mouth, and rushed into the bathroom, vomiting wildly.
She threw up all the wine she had drunk. She didn’t eat anything, and she could vomit nothing but alkaline water.
Karl gently stroked her back, handed her a glass of water, and asked her to rinse her mouth.
Aftér vomiting, Hailey became much sober but looked even paler.
“Karl,” Hailey said softly with a pale and weak smile on her face. “I thought I was just dreaming. Now that I’ve woken up from the dream, I realize that he’s really dead.”
He left her completely, forever.
Karl felt a pang of pain in his heart, but his expression was still indifferent. “Sometimes, death is a relief. It’s better for you to say goodbye in this way than to torture each other.”
“But he didn’t even say goodbye.” Hailey’s voice was weak, as if she were an incurable patient.
“No farewell.”
Karl kept silent for a long time.
After a long while, he said slowly, “Sometimes, it was better not to say goodbye. When your sister-in- law died, she said goodbye to me with a smile. She said that she didn’t blame me.”
Karl frowned slightly, and his hand holding the cigarette trembled slightly. “But I have been blaming myself all day long.”
Hailey looked up at Karl upon that, tears streaming down her face.
The rain was still falling, hitting the glass window as if it were hitting someone’s heart. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
“We have to live on because we have families who love us and many responsibilities to fulfill.”
Karl reached out to hold Hailey’s shoulders. He no longer treated her as a child but as an adult. “Time heals all wounds. What we need to do is to move on!”
