Chapter 278 Damien Is Extremely Manipulative

The next morning, Damien had already gone to work by the time Clarissa got out of bed.

She remembered that she had yoga classes every afternoon, so she didn‘t know if Yvonne had

changed the class schedule due to New East Corporation‘s working hours.

schedule?)

She knew those two intended to butter Damien up, so they were definitely not there for her. Then

again, since Damien used her as an excuse, she still had to pay the company a visit,

Clarissa quickly ate brunch before hitching a ride with Leah to New East Corporation at eleven o‘clock.

Mrs. Faber opted not to follow her. Leah was with Clarissa during the journey, and Damien would be

with her at the company. Instead, the older woman decided to start preparing dinner at home.

Clarissa walked very slowly to the elevator. Damien kept staring at her as he watched her lifting a foot

for a very long time before finally placing it on a new spot.

He supported Clarissa with every step, making the latter stressed out. She had a constant feeling that

she was wasting his time.

“There‘s no need for you to come along. I don‘t want to delay your work. It‘s not like I‘m bad at taking

elevator rides.” Clarissa sounded quite apologetic.

Damien just smiled in response. “You aren‘t delaying anything.”

He had smiled twice in such a short span of time. Clarissa was confused.

On their trip to the elevator, they bumped into a few coworkers who bowed their heads respectfully and

greeted them, “Mr. Lawrence, Mrs. Lawrence.”

Damien was already used to that treatment, so he ignored them outright. He walked Clarissa to Lucas‘

office before taking the elevator down to his floor without the intention to barge into the audit

department‘s affairs.

Lucas stared at Clarissa‘s huge stomach. “People sure change a lot after a long time of not meeting

up,” he commented. “I thought you and Mr. Lawrence might never have a kid in this lifetime.”

After that, he spread his hands with a shrug.

The people who spent the majority of their lives in their offices could never sense the flow in time. To

them, it felt like days since they last met Clarissa, only to see her nursing a huge stomach.

“By the way, Miss Johnson. The reason we wanted you to sign the contract with First back then was

because we wanted to work with you. Now that you‘ve resigned from

First, it‘s only natural for us to follow you wherever you go,” James piped up.

Clarissa knew these people were just using her. Their true goal was Damien, whom they were doing

their best to please, but they insisted on using her as their meat shield. Furthermore, it was unknown

whether she would be working at New East Corporation in the future. Hence, Clarissa just smiled and

replied, “I‘m getting ready for labor soon, so I can‘t promise that I‘ll be back at work in time for the

project. However, I can introduce an accountant who‘s more capable than me to you. Her name is

Janet Cane, and she‘s my mentor. I assure you, her abilities are superior to mine.”

Since Clarissa had mentioned Janet, James and Mr. Lark decided to go with the flow. Then, they

signed the contract with the audit department of New East Corporation.

Both Lucas and Janet were grateful to Clarissa.

They were all experienced veterans in the office culture, so they knew exactly what Damien wanted

them to do. Since he wanted them to be grateful to Clarissa, that was what they would do.

This was the path that Damien had paved for Clarissa, all so she could work at New East Corporation

again in the future.

Everyone understood that fact very well. None of them uttered a word about it.

They all knew that Damien was the one who insisted on roping Clarissa back into New East

Corporation. If she didn‘t come back to work, she would be disappointing everyone. Clarissa could only
