Love In Twilight By Tiny Mountains Chapter 228
Chapter 228 Divorce Damien stopped thinking about these things, and instead patted Clarissa on the
face roughly. Still groggy, Clarissa was startled awake and mumbled, “W-What’s wrong?” She opened
her eyes, only to see Damien standing before her.
“Why are you here?!”
“Grandpa’s in the hospital. Come with me, now.” Damien looked furious. Clarissa wasn’t too alert after
staying up the whole night, but when she heard this, she shot out of bed and changed her clothes
without brushing her teeth or washing her face. Grandpa Lawrence had once said there was no cure
for cancer. He wanted to retain the last of his dignity, which was why he had refused to go to the
hospital. Now that he was hospitalized, he had to be in terrible condition.
“How’s Grandpa?” Clarissa asked. She couldn’t help crying.
“Haven’t you been waiting for this day?” Damien hadn’t smiled at all recently, and he looked grim. This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
“No, I haven’t! I don’t want anything to happen to Grandpa. I’m not like you,” Clarissa retorted.
She didn’t want to have anything to do with Damien, but she was very fond of Grandpa Lawrence.
Damien turned to look out the window.
Grandpa Lawrence was staying in the best ward the hospital had to offer. When they arrived at the
hospital, Clarissa saw Madelynn standing in the corridor. The moment Damien showed up, she linked
arms with him.
Clarissa pretended not to see this.
“See, what’s the point of having her at home? Mrs. Faber couldn’t even wake her up,” Madelynn said
mockingly.
Damien had probably told her why Clarissa was still staying at home.
This made Clarissa feel even worse. It turned out Mrs. Faber had tried and failed to wake her
up
“Doctor, I want to see Grandpa.” The doctor walked out of the ward, and she grabbed his arm.
“Sir Lawrence wants to see Mrs. Lawrence,” he said. “Okay.” Clarissa bolted into the ward without
hesitation. When she saw the skinny, frail, old man lying on the bed, she couldn’t help crying.
“Grandpa, Grandpa…” It was only after a long while did Grandpa Lawrence open his eyes.
“Clary…” He was very weak
“Grandpa.” She held his hand.
He smiled. “Clary, I know you and Damien were only putting on a show for me. I…”
He coughed.
“Grandpa… Stop talking, please.” She rubbed his chest.
“I know about everything. When you first came back with Damien, you two didn’t even look at each
other when you were in the living room. It was obvious you two had no choice but to be bound together.
Your grandmother and I weren’t like that when we were newlyweds. We wished we could be joined at
the bip. I really like you, and I tried my best to match you and Damien up. I even had him reassign his
assets to you to make your marriage a real one. Things were getting better, and then, the thing with
your mother… I know Patrick and Damien are in the wrong. Clary, you loved your mother so much that
there’s no way you would forgive Damien, but I’m begging you. Will you forgive him? Please?” Grandpa
held her hand.
Clarissa couldn’t speak through her tears. She thought that she and Damien would put on a show for
Grandpa Lawrence, but they hadn’t done it properly and he’d seen right through it.
He had just been going along with them. “Alright, alright…”Grandpa passed out after saying that.
Clarissa watched him for a while before leaving the ward.
In the corridor, she couldn’t stop crying. After all, she’d spent the past year with the Lawrence family,
and Grandpa had always treated her well.
Though she wasn’t truly his granddaughter-in-law, that was how he had viewed her.
She kept crying, not paying attention to Madelynn and Damien at all. Grandpa Lawrence passed away
three days later. It was a cold, gloomy, and sunless day.
Clarissa had endured both her mother and Grandpa Lawrence’s deaths. She felt like there was nothing
else left in this world for her.
Madelynn was with them throughout the whole thing.
With Grandpa Lawrence gone, the house was even emptier than before. Only Damien, Mrs. Faber, and
a few maids were left.
Clarissa couldn’t stand the coldness and emptiness. Remaining here would only remind her of the
painful past.
She wanted to leave Genovia as soon as possible, and she was also afraid that Damien would refuse
to get a divorce.
She knocked on his door.

He was sitting on the sofa, smoking. The smoke blurred his face. “Are you here for the divorce
certificate?” he asked. His voice was deep and hoarse, and he narrowed his eyes at Clarissa.
“That was the whole point of our marital settlement agreement. Don’t go back on your words, President
Lawrence.” Clarissa held her head high.
“Of course.” He took the divorce certificate, which was placed to one side.
Clarissa glanced at it, and then heaved a sigh of relief.
Damien saw the relief on her face clearly.
“I’ll have the money transferred to your account soon,” he added.
“I don’t want it! This is more than enough. I’ll be leaving tomorrow.” She turned and left without so much
as glancing at him.
