Love In Twilight By Tiny Mountains Chapter 199

Chapter 199 Charming

“Yo. You got your glasses on?” Ray teased Damien

Clarissa turned to Damien, and saw that he was wearing a pair of silver-rimmed glasses. It reduced

some of his dominant aura and intimidating look. He looked like a well-dressed gentleman,

“Yeah,”

“You can always steal the ladies’ hearts away with that!” Ray left after that comment.

Clarissa put on her bag and asked Damien, “Why are you wearing glasses?”

“Do I look good?” A charming and provocative light glinted in Damien’s eyes as he looked

at Clarissa through the thin lenses of his glass.

“Yeah. You’re very...”

“Very what?” he said, demanding an answer from Clarissa.

“C-Charming.”

“Did I charm you?” he asked again.

Clarissa nodded, bashful. “Y-Yeah. You did.”

“He always wanted me to be like this,” Damien suddenly said.

“He?” Clarissa was puzzled. Then, she realized something. “Dad?” Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Who else?” Damien walked over from his desk. He took Clarissa’s hand and said, “Let’s go.”

Clarissa answered with a soft hum and followed behind him.

After they got into the car, Clarissa asked him, “Does he want you to be a scholar?”

“Yes,” he said as he drove.

Clarissa could sense the changes in Damien’s mood. He appeared rather unhappy, and seemed down

as he recalled his past.

“What kind of scholar?”

“Like Grandpa,” Damien sneered. “What’s the use as a scholar? I was the one who…”

It was Damien’s first time stopping midway. He rarely left his sentence unfinished.

“Scholar?” Clarissa nodded thoughtfully. “That explains why you love reading so much rather than

socializing. I wonder how many girls you can charm if you‘re a college professor,” –

Clarissa fell into an endless imagination.

“Did I charm you already?” he asked.

“I don’t know. Well, who knows?” Clarissa smiled playfully. “But if you have a problem with him, why do

you put on your glasses to meet him?”

“To prevent conflict and keep him from going crazy,” Damien said, turning his head. He frowned slightly.

“What’s with all the questions? Why aren’t you worried about yourself?”

“What do I have to worry about?” Clarissa shot him a playful look.

“Well, you’re finally meeting your in-laws.”

“That’s not a problem. I’m so pretty, after all,” Clarissa said smugly.

Damien didn’t say anything. Clarissa was indeed pretty, and he couldn’t argue with that.

“By the way… Since your parents are back, my mom asked if she should come and meet them.” Still,

Clarissa felt that Theresa was probably just a nobody to Damien’s parents.

“It doesn’t really matter.” Damien seemed a little annoyed, He balled his hand in a fist and covered his

mouth to block a light cough.

“Are you okay?” Clarissa asked.

“I’m fine. I caught a cold last night.”

Clarissa and Damien finally arrived home. There, Clarissa saw an elegant middle-aged couple sitting

on the couch in the living room. They were both very tall. She could tell that they must be a good-

looking couple when they were young, the kind that most would envy.

Patrick’s hair was white, but it didn’t look like the usual graying hair from old age. Instead, it looked like

all his hair turned white in just a night.

Clarissa froze. When Damien held her hand, she stole a side glance at him.

Damien was staring quietly at them.

“Damien. How have you been these past few years?” Vanessa asked Damien. She sounded a little

apprehensive, as if she was trying to please him.

Damien kept staring at Patrick, not even bothered to greet them. He only said, “You’re here? I’ll have

Mrs. Faber prepare a room for you.”

He went upstairs right after saying that. Clarissa, however, stayed downstairs.

“Mom, Dad, please don’t mind him. He’s just not used to it.” Clarissa entertained Damien’s parents, and

told Mrs. Faber to summon Grandpa Lawrence. Without his presence, she would feel awkward

entertaining them alone.

Perhaps Patrick and Vanessa had spoken to Grandpa Lawrence earlier. Clarissa didn’t notice anything

unusual when Grandpa Lawrence walked out.

“You must be Clary.” Vanessa took Clarissa’s hand. “Dad always talks about you. He really likes you.

Damien likes you. So, we like you too.”

Clarissa didn’t expect her first meeting with her in-laws would go so well. Surprisingly, they didn’t pick

on her. In fact, it seemed they wanted to get closer with Damien through her.

Damien didn’t come down for dinner in the evening, so Clarissa told Mrs. Faber to save his dinner for

him later.

During dinner, Clarissa got to know more about her in-laws. Her father-in-law, Patrick, had been

teaching at a university abroad. Her mother-in-law, Vanessa, was unemployed. She was only keeping

Patrick company.

Patrick kept his head down and didn’t say anything the entire dinner.

Clarissa was a bit hesitant. ‘Does a grown man really need company?‘

“Clary, are you busy after this?” Vanessa asked Clarissa.

“I’m free.”

“If you’re free, why don’t you accompany me to the supermarket and buy some tofu?”

“What are we going to do with tofu?” Clarissa asked, puzzled. “If I’m free, I’ll make some tofu dumplings

for Damien tomorrow. He loves them.” Vanessa sounded a little sad when she said this, as if she was

going to burst into tears at the drop of a hat.

“He loves tofu dumplings?” Clarissa and Mrs. Faber exchanged confused looks.

“He didn’t mention this at all?”

“No, he never said anything about it.” Clarissa stopped eating, momentarily stunned. Damien had never

mentioned anything about it. Besides, they had dumplings before. However, Damien treated them as if

they were just dispensable food. He didn’t appear to enjoy them very much, or at all.
