Love In Twilight By Tiny Mountains Chapter 189
Chapter 189 Kids Shouldn’t Ask So Many Questions
After putting the files down, Clarissa went to Damien’s office to hand in her journal. She also took the
opportunity to let him know that she had gotten all the documents
“Dennis told me. You can go back to work now.”
She glanced at the journal uneasily.
She had written an entry right after coming back from Brightside Investment. At the end, she had drawn
a star and had even written that Damien was a bastard.
In fact, she had repeated it thrice.
She prayed he wouldn’t read it!
In the evening, Clarissa went to Damien’s office for her tutoring session,
The journal was still where she had left it.
Clarissa was quite focused on her tutoring that day. About halfway through the session, someone
knocked on the door.
Ray went to open the door, and a shabbily dressed boy came in. He was sniffling, and he stared right
at Clarissa as he sobbed,
“Who are you looking for?” she asked the little boy.
He grabbed her hand and said, “Clary… Mom’s sick, and she’s going to die. She wants you to see her.”
“Mom?” Clarissa was confused at first, but when she thought about what Theresa had told her…
As expected, Connie and Madelynn were trying to trick her. She wasn’t going to fall for it!
Damien watched them, entertained.
Clarissa had already told him about this before, so he wasn’t surprised.
Ray, on the other hand, was confused.
Clarissa took 200 dollars out of her purse.
Tell me who told you to say these things, and i’ll give you this money. Okay?” She squatted down and
coaxed the little boy.
Though the boy was only seven or eight years old, he knew money was very useful.
His eyes shone as he stared at the money in Clarissa’s hand…
Clarissa knew it wasn’t good to tempt a child with money, but she didn’t have anything else.
“A woman asked me to tell you that! She wanted me to say that your mother’s a dancer,
and that I’m your biological brother.” After that, the boy grabbed the money from Clarissa
“Where’s your mother, then?” Clarissa asked.
“She’s long dead.” He ran off right after.
Logically speaking, Clarissa had seen through the boy’s tricks, which meant she had successfully
exposed Connie and Madelynn’s evil scheme,
She didn’t feel happy at all, though.
Like the little boy, she was also someone who had no roots.
If Theresa hadn’t told her about this beforehand, Clarissa probably would‘ve scoffed at the boy’s words,
or even started to suspect something was up. She definitely wouldn’t have remained as calm as she
was at the moment.

Clarissa couldn’t continue with the tutoring session anymore. She said she had a headache, and
wanted to end the class earlier.
“Damien, what do you think?” Ray asked.
“You head home first.” Damien gave him a look.
Ray left the office obediently.
Clarissa sat on the sofa and slowly started to cry.
Damien came over and handed her some tissues.
“Do you think I’m useless?” She laughed at how she’d made a mountain out of a molehill, wiping her
tears all the while.
“Yeah, you‘ve always been like this.”
“I knew you’d say that!” she said.
“Did you run into anyone when you went to Brightside Investment this morning?” Damien lit a cigarette.
She was captivated by the way he blew out smoke rings.
Clarissa’s mind was still filled with thoughts of who her actual parents were, and she was confused for
a short while.
“Who would I run into?” As she thought about it, Joseph’s face popped into her mind.
Damien knew that Joseph had gone to Brightside Investment this morning?
She felt like she had been tricked. Damien knew that Joseph was going to be there. In fact, he could
have pulled some strings to make sure that Joseph would be there this morning. On top of that, he
made her go there at the same time?
What was Damien trying to achieve by making Joseph see that Clarissa had snatched this project from
under his very nose? And that he couldn’t even get angry about it?
He wanted Joseph to know that he and Clarissa belonged to different companies. In the face of profit,
they would eventually end up taking separate paths.
Of course, Damien hoped that they would take separate paths for everything in life, not just career-
wise.
He was attacking the heart rather than the body.
He was really too much!
But at this moment, Clarissa wasn’t in the mood to say anything. She was still depressed about the fact
that she was an orphan, so she didn’t want to talk about anything else.
Damien’s actions had only rubbed salt into her wound.
That was all.
“Can we not get into a fight now, please?” She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. “I’m not thinking
about him, and I wouldn’t have the nerve to think about him with you around!”
“So you’d have the nerve to do it behind my back?” Damien refused to let the matter slide.
“I’d be thinking about you if you weren’t around, of course.” Clarissa was pitiful, but her words pleased
him.
Damien’s heart softened. “Don’t try to flatter me.”
“I’m not acting. I mean it from the bottom of my heart,” she said earnestly.
“I’ll take you out for dinner.” Damien asked, “Do you like frittatas?”
Clarissa nodded. She happened to be in a terrible mood, after all.
This was Damien’s second time taking her out for dinner.
She suddenly felt like they rather resembled an actual couple now.
After Damien made a call, he drove them to one of the most popular restaurants in Genovia, Fiore.
He was in charge of ordering, while Clarissa was in charge of eating.
w The restaurant was in a high location, and the view there was amazing.
“Do you come here often?” she asked.
The waiters had all addressed him as “President Lawrence”. It seemed they recognized him.
“I used to,” Damien said as he browsed the menu.
“How long ago?”
“Do you have to ask? It’s better not to be concerned about a man’s past. You might not be able to take
it,” he said.
Clarissa rolled her eyes. “Who’s concerned about you?’
“Why did your mother suddenly tell you about your lineage?” Damien found it odd that the little boy, or
rather, Connie, had made her move almost right after Clarissa told him about
this.
“My mom called my aunt and happened to hear my uncle mention that Connie had become Madelynn’s
assistant. She thought Connie would try to get at me with this titbit and was afraid I’d be caught off
guard, so she told me.”
“Your mother’s not someone to be trifled with,” Damien said.
This was something that had occurred to Damien when Theresa had told Clarissa to return the money
to him. Perhaps her intention wasn’t to play hard to get, but that was the result she’d achieved. At the
very least, it had softened Damien’s heart and changed his impression of Clarissa.
“How’s she not someone to be trifled with? She’s no match for you,” Clarissa said a little unwillingly.
Damien smiled meaningfully. “Kids shouldn’t ask so many questions.”
“Who are you calling a kid?” she retorted, peeved.
