Love In Twilight By Tiny Mountains Chapter 136
Chapter 136 Damien’s Scheme
Clarissa had spent the night feeling very excited. The next morning, she was still as energetic as ever.
Clarissa feared Theresa would only regain consciousness temporarily and return to her long-term
slumber. Hence, she went to her mother’s bedside early in the morning and nudged Theresa’s arm
gently
Theresa was awakened thanks to the nudge. She smiled and said to Clarissa, “What’s wrong, Clary?”
Noticing that Theresa’s behavior was normal, Clarissa just smiled happily. “I’m going to work soon,
Mom. If there’s anything you need, you can always ask Anne to call me.”
Theresa caressed Clarissa’s face lovingly. “Okay.”

When Clarissa was about to leave the ward, she bumped into the doctor, who was about to perform a
check-up on Theresa.
Clarissa requested Anne to tell her the results once the doctor was done with the check-up.
While Clarissa was walking on the street, she couldn’t help but feel relaxed. She was on cloud nine.
When she arrived at the company, she bumped into Howard by chance in the elevator.
Howard was very respectful to Clarissa. His demeanor was the complete opposite compared to his
initial attitude toward her when she first arrived at the company as an intern.
“Clarissa, how’s your work? Is it exhausting? What has the audit department been up to?” Howard
asked, in pretense of being concerned for her well-being.
“Yeah. It’s pretty tiring. Since I just joined them, I have no idea how to do a lot of tasks,” Clarissa replied
lightly.
It had been a few days since Clarissa joined the audit department. However, she knew that the audit
department had been checking the accounts presented by the finance department. Perhaps they had
been dealing with this task for a very long time, but since she had only joined them recently, she wasn’t
able to do much there. Then again, she also knew that there was a severe problem festering within the
finance department.
In the past, Clarissa was just an accountant in the finance department. She didn’t have much authority,
so many documents and information were classified to her.
Now that she was working under Janet, she discovered a lot of things on her own. For example,
Howard’s world was about to come crashing down on him.
The audit department was located at the top floor. After Howard left the elevator, Clarissa continued to
take the elevator all the way up. She kept thinking, ‘Damien’s such a smart guy, so why would he
choose to employ someone like Howard?‘
Perhaps Damien gradually realized that Howard was a problematic character. Therefore, he founded
the audit department and had them investigate Howard. Not only would he reap the investigative
results with evidence, but there was also no need for him to personally deal with this

matter. The audit department would be the bad guy this round.
Damien was definitely a smart guy. As expected of a natural businessman!
While Clarissa was stewing in her thoughts, the elevator doors opened on their own.
Damien appeared right in front of her.
Initially, Clarissa was thinking about him while staring at her feet. His sudden appearance made her
think that he had appeared right out of her thoughts. As a result, she was surprised to see him. Her
body even tilted backward out of instinct.
“Are you thinking about me?” Damien asked, one hand in his pocket as he stared at Clarissa in the
elevator.
Seeing as he had successfully guessed her thoughts, Clarissa couldn’t help but flash him an
embarrassed look.
“My mom just woke up, so I’d like to stay a few nights at the hospital. Is that okay?” she asked.
“Sure.” Damien sounded very decisive. It was as if he never cared about what Clarissa had to say.
The corners of Clarissa’s lips curled upward in a faint arc.
Upon reaching the top floor, Damien ignored Clarissa. The moment the elevator doors opened, he
headed toward Lucas’s office in wide strides.
Having spent her last few work days in the audit department, Clarissa had never seen Damien visiting
the office on this floor. Judging from his pacing, he seemed like he had something urgent to deal with Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
At noon, Clarissa invited Lily out for lunch. She took the elevator down to the lobby so that she could
wait for Lily there.
It was there that she heard a colleague, who was previously a member of the finance department, say
to someone, “If you’re talking about the position of the finance director of New East Corporation, one
has to be at least the top ten elite people in Genovia in order to qualify. I heard Howard has embezzled
at least a couple million dollars over the past few years.”
“I think someone with so many achievements is very difficult to find. Their annual salary has to be at
least two million dollars, right?”
Clarissa couldn’t understand the conversation. What happened to Howard?
Even though the audit department had been dealing with the finance department’s accounts lately, she
knew that Howard had skeletons in his closet. However, she thought it was impossible
for his crimes to be revealed so soon.
After waiting in the lobby for some time, Lily finally arrived.
As Lily approached Clarissa, she told Clarissa in a low tone, “The audit department sure is amazing. I
heard someone from the public prosecutor’s office took him away today.”
“Huh?” Clarissa was stunned.
She had no idea that Damien was that decisive.
Maybe the reason he visited the audit department today was to discuss that matter with Lucas.
The audit department definitely had their own fair share of conflicts going on. Damien was definitely a
man of mystery who hid his true self in front of everyone.
That thought scared Clarissa a little.
“I heard Howard is one of the original employees who founded this company with President Lawrence.
If not, this matter would’ve been dealt with a long time ago,” Lily continued in a soft tone as she ate
lunch with Clarissa. “You sleep on the same bed as President Lawrence, don’t you? Have you heard
anything from him?”
Clarissa felt fear spreading from her heart to the rest of her limbs. There were no symptoms nor signs
at all. She was a member of the audit department, and yet she had never heard any news about it.
Even if she was Damien’s partner in bed, she hadn’t heard anything from him at all.
