Chapter 173: Goodbye, Mr. Lawrence
At the gate of the Manches Civil Affairs Bureau.
Zane stopped the car in front of the gate and turned off the engine.
They were both sitting in the car, neither of them intending to speak, nor neither of them offering to get
out first. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Albi came and knocked on the window.
Yanis then opened the door first and got out.
After that, Zane also got out of the car.
Albi glanced at Yanis as she got out of the car. After a moment's hesitation, he handed Zane the
divorce papers. "Here you are, Mr. Lawrence."
Zane's eyes darkened as Albi handed him the papers. He hesitated for a few seconds before reaching
out to take them.
As Albi handed over the signed document, Zane's hand was visibly shaking. He even wrinkled the
document and his veins were visible.
In all the years Albi had been with Zane, he had never seen him so restrained with his emotion.
He felt like he was being weighed down by a mountain and couldn't breathe.
"Get in there." Yanis glanced at Zane and stepped through the door of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Albi stood next to Zane, looking at Yanis' determined face. "Mr. Lawrence, you... Are you really leaving
Lady Yanis?"
Zane looked up at Yanis's back. After a long pause, he said yes. Then she stepped in.
Albi stood by the car, waiting.
When Bonnie arrived, she noticed the familiar black Bentley.
Bonnie was actually sad, feeling bad for Yanis.
She gave him everything she had, did whatever it took, and came home empty-handed.
And she even got hurt and shamed.
Bonnie parked the car, opened the door, and got out.
"Miss Cooke?"
Albi was stunned when he saw Bonnie and immediately asked, "are you picking up Lady Yanis?"
It was probably because he was used to calling her Lady Yanis, so Albi didn't change for a while. Albi
had called her Miss Thompson a few times before when Neve first came back, but after that, he called
her Lady Yanis again.
With a faint look, Bonnie cast her eyes at the gate of the Civil Affairs Bureau and asked, "How long
have they been in there?"
"A while," Albi answered.
Bonnie said ok and she didn't speak again.
The two of them stood in front of the car, waiting for them to come out.
Soon Zane and Yanis came out from the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Bonnie narrowed her eyes and asked, "Albi, has Yanis been unkind to Zane all these years?"
Albi turned to Bonnie when he heard this, wondering for a moment how to respond.
Albi had seen Yanis almost every day for the past five years.
Yanis was not unkind to Zane.
Even she was nice enough that Albi often felt that Zane didn't ... deserve her.
Sometimes he would think Zane in his heart that he failed her.
But he was just an assistant, whatever happened between his boss and the boss's wife, he was
entitled to judge. He could only follow orders.
Zane told him to go abroad to check on Neve. He had to go.
Zane asked him to ignore Yanis. He had to ignore it.
When Zane married Yanis, Albi just started working for him.
He didn't know anything about what happened before.
But Albi had known the name Neve all along.
At that time, Albi wondered why Zane would marry a woman he didn't love while he was loving
someone else.
Later, when they got together, Albi would also visit Neve on behalf of Zane.
As for Yanis, Albi didn't meet her until nearly six months after they got married.
She was gentle and considerate, virtuous and generous.
She was very caring to Zane.
Over the past five years, Albi had witnessed everything Yanis had done for Zane.
But Zane never responded and even turned her down.
After all these years together, Albi had a feeling that sooner or later, they would break up.
So, Albi wasn't shocked when Zane asked him to prepare a divorce agreement some time ago.
There was even a sense of relief for Yanis.
But after finishing drafting the divorce papers, Albi made a discovery.
Zane had never handed Yanis the divorce papers.
It was not until the evening when Neve came back that she asked him to take out the divorce
agreement after she had been out partying and drinking.
After that, it was all happening too fast, everyone was overwhelmed.
The thought of divorce had been postponed by various things.
And he could tell that Zane didn't really want the divorce that much.
Especially in the last few days, the relationship between them had improved a lot.
He thought Zane had figured it out and would start over with Yanis.
Although there was a misunderstanding, it could always be explained.
But he did not expect that all of a sudden, they went to get a divorce. The relationship between the two
people could be described as falling from heaven to hell.
As Zane and Yanis stood on the steps of the Civil Affairs Bureau talking, Albi looked away. "Lady Yanis
is nice to Mr. Lawrence."
Bonnie sneered. "He failed her! He'll never find a woman as good as Yanis again!"
Albi, "..."
He agreed that Mr. Lawrence was ungrateful.
Especially after what he learned about Neve, he agreed with Bonnie.
Yanis, holding divorce papers in hand, glanced down, then looked back at Zane. She said in a clear
and cold voice, "goodbye, Mr. Lawrence."
Zane frowned at her, trying to say something, but when the words were about to come out, he didn't
feel right to say anything… He knew it was too late.
But Zane couldn't help holding his words as Yanis looked indifferent and even relieved.
"Yanis, we'll meet again. This Manches City is so small. We'll see each other somewhere."
Yanis kept a poker face. "I will avoid Mr. Lawrence. I will stay away from any place where Mr. Lawrence
could be. I won't let you see me."
"Yanis, that's not what I meant..."
"Whatever you mean, that's what I'm going to do after we say goodbye today."
Yanis's lips rose a bit as she said, "happy divorce, Mr. Lawrence."
Before Zane could say another word, Yanis turned around and walked down the steps.
When Bonnie saw Yanis coming, she walked up to her and asked, "home?"
Yanis then asked, "let's go back to Linen Bay. I have a delivery coming later."
Instead of giving Yanis a hug or comforting words, Bonnie said what Zane didn't reply, "happy divorce,
Yanis!"
No words needed to be spoken. They just looked at each other and understood each other very well.
Zane stood there, watching Yanis get into Bonnie's car. The car quickly disappeared, then he headed
toward his car.
