Chapter 134
Eliza felt a sharp pang in her chest. She couldn't help but press herself closer to the wall.
"I passed out midway. I don't remember how long it was," she whispered.
In the darkness, Casper got up and strode toward her. Her body tensed, leaning against the cabinet, her fingertips digging in until he was right in front of her. He brought a cold air with him, and his breath carried a faint scent of tobacco. Eliza's heart raced, her lips tightening involuntarily.
"Today, we laid Grandpa to rest. I can overlook some things, but..." His large hand clasped her neck, forcing her to look up. "...why did Grandpa pass away like this? Do you know why?"
Eliza's eyes narrowed as she stared at Casper in the dark. "Mr. Casper, are you saying that Grandpa died because I didn't give him a blood transfusion in time?"
"Wasn't that the case?"
"What if it was the other way around?" Her eyes trembled, her voice hoarse. "If it was me who died, would you be sad?"
Her lips twisted into a bitter smile, tears welling up in her eyes. "Of course, you'd be sad. If I died, there'd be no saving Grandpa. You wouldn't want me to die, right? Casper, don't you think you're being cruel to me?"
He laughed, a mocking, disdainful sound. "Eliza, who do you think you are? Do you really think you're that important? If you think this is cruel, what do you call destroying Nova's life?"
"Did I ruin Nova's life?" Her pupils dilated as she stared at him. "If marrying me ruined her, you could just divorce me and marry her. If her leg didn't get proper treatment and it ruined her, you should go to the hospital and find out why her leg ended up like that."
Nova's knee injury had been severe back then. The Pinotti family spent everything they had on her treatment. The hospital wasn't the best, but the surgeon was top-notch. It was said the surgery failed, but the Pinotti family, including Nova, knew the truth. She hadn't followed the post-operative care instructions.
Nova was always a
handful-smoking and drinking, causing her parents endless worry. During her recovery, she went
clubbing. The alcohol didn't reamet
well with her medication, leading to heart and kidney damage and complications. Her leg was no exception. If she hadn't gone clubbing, her knee might have healed.
In Casper's eyes, Eliza was to blame for Nova's current state.
"It seems you have a lot of resentment." His large hand pressed against the wall, pinning her tightly. "So, you're having an affair with Aaron, and you wanted to kill me? Is that it?"
Eliza couldn't explain. Sometimes,
explaining didn't matter if the person
listening didn't want to hear it or
couldn't understand. Casper had
already made up his mind, so no
amount of words would change his
opinion.
"Think whatever you want."
His hand tightened slowly, mirroring the furrow in his brow. "Did you think I wouldn't deal with you today? Did you believe you could keep provoking me? Huh?"
"I wouldn't dare."C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
Why wouldn't he deal with her? He had already made her kneel in the rain for three hours today.
"I think you would."
"Casper, I'm truly exhausted. Please, show some mercy and divorce me, alright?" She looked up at him, pleadingly.
