His Beloved Ex-Wife

Chapter 33 Unmistakably Fixed On Her

As the month drew close, Lysander resumed her hospital duties following her annual leave, feeling almost fully recovered.

Her colleagues and the expectant mothers in the ward warmly welcomed her, but only Lynn was privy to the intricacies of the situation. She felt an urge to say something whenever Lysander appeared, yet hesitated and held back.

When Lysander returned from her rounds, she noticed Lynn’s flushed face-—a clear sign that she was holding back some words. She couldn’t help but chuckle and told Lynn, “Just speak your mind. There’s no need to hold back.”

Lynn asked, “Dr. Thorne, do you intend to divorce your husband?”

“Yes, just one final procedure remains. I’ll spend half an hour at the Civil Affairs Bureau to wrap it up,” Lysander replied.

Burdened with unspoken thoughts, Lynn bit her lip while anxiously gazing at Lysander. Yet, she struggled to find the right words for a moment.

Lysander offered a comforting pat on her shoulder and reassured her, “Don’t overthink it. Let’s get back

to work.”

After much consideration, Lysander decided to forgo an overseas assignment.

Although she had planned to apply, she decided not to do so as the deadline approached following her miscarriage and recovery.

Even when asked by the dean, her explanation remained straightforward, “There are a few expectant mothers whose conditions are not good, and I can’t abandon them.”

The dean was a friendly elderly man who could be a bit intrusive. With an ambiguous wink, he remarked, “If you can’t bring yourself to leave your husband, then don’t. There’s no need to justify your choice. Everyone has to make their own decisions regarding balancing family and career. Just make the decision that’s best for you.”

Lysander smiled softly and responded, “Thank you, Dean.” This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

Two days later, Lysander received the news that the hospital had chosen another candidate for the overseas assignment, and they would soon be leaving

However, she had no idea about these recent developments because there was a sudden influx of pregnant women being admitted to the hospital, which kept her busy throughout the preceding days.

Lysander found solace in the busyness of her work, deriving a sense of fulfillment from its demands. Meanwhile, Lynn spent her afternoon anxiously pacing back and forth at the hospital entrance. Her eyes scanned her surroundings in anticipation.

Exhausted after completing surgery, Lysander couldn’t help but ask Lynn, “What are you looking at? Is there a celebrity outside?”

Upon seeing Lysander, Lynn hurried over and exclaimed, “Dr. Thorne, there’s something odd happening. It feels like someone constantly watches us as if we’re under surveillance. It’s terrifying.”

Not taking it seriously, Lysander asked, “Any horror movie marathons lately?”

“No, not at all,” Lynn replied.

Lysander asked, “Have you seen anyone suspicious around here?”

Lynn responded, “No, but the sensation is there. I have a constant feeling of being watched. It’s just a gut feeling, a woman’s intuition!”

With a sigh, Lysander suggested, “Report any medical disputes or unruly family members to hospital security. Let them prepare for potential trouble.”

Lynn nodded repeatedly and affirmed, “That’s a good idea. I’ll go right away.”

As Lysander finished her shift, rain began to fall outside, casting a dark and damp atmosphere.

She took an Uber instead of the bus as she was temporarily staying at Daphne’s house, far from the hospital.

Fortunately, the Uber arrived on time, but the distance from the hospital entrance was still

considerable. Lysander quickly covered her head with her bag, ran through the rain, opened the car door, and got in.

“To Sunset Grove, thank you,” she informed the Uber driver.

The Uber driver nodded slightly and replied, “Okay.”

The hospital entrance was congested with traffic, especially during rush hour, causing the Uber to move slowly. Suddenly, the Uber driver pointed outside and remarked, “Isn’t that person standing in the rain a bit silly? There’s shade just a step away from him. Haha.”

Lysander followed his gesture and looked over the pointed direction to see the familiar white Cayenne and its driver.

Josiah stood tall in the rain, his hair and face soaked. He was wearing a white shirt with dark gray sleeve

garters.

It was difficult to discern his expression in the drizzle. However, Lysander was sure that he was looking

at her.
