Chapter 749
Chapter 749
Making the decision wasn't a spur-of-the-moment thing for Agnes. She had been mulling over the
matter for days. She and Jared were planning on starting over, and doing so demanded that they be in
the same city. Jared had too many responsibilities here, and asking him to give up everything was out
of the question.
Agnes had been hustling in Manhattan for four years and had finally achieved some small successes in
her career. But in this foreign land, she never truly felt at home. Giving up was hard, but the people she ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
loved were all here.
As for Nocturne's illness, it had significantly improved ever since he started the new medication. The
current treatment plan was to continue with this medication until something more effective was
developed. Considering the length of this process and the fact that her grandma’s health condition
required her constant presence, Agnes decided to give up everything in Manhattan.
Rather than saying she was giving up, Agnes preferred to see it as making a different choice. The
following day, she boarded a plane to Manhattan. She had initially planned to take only a two-week
leave, but she ended up staying in her hometown much longer.
Agnes' boss, a nice gentleman named Steve, had been a great help throughout her career. He was a
respected figure in the journalism industry and a mentor to Agnes. When Agnes resigned, Steve was
the first to object. However, Agnes was firm about her decision. All Steve could do was bless her.
Agnes hugged him, "If you ever come to visit my city, I'll make sure to treat you well." She bid farewell
to her colleagues, and before she knew it, she had finished all her resignation procedures.
Upon returning to her apartment that night, she found Nate still holed up in her room, seemingly
tangled up with a hacker. She spent most of her time glued to her computer screen, oblivious to the
world around her.
"I'm going back to my hometown, Nate," Agnes said, walking over to her.
Nate turned around, showed no significant reaction, and merely nodded. She was never sensitive to
anything outside the world of the internet. She was always ready to help Agnes but never asked
questions or gossiped.
Agnes sat next to Nate, "I don’t want to leave you here alone, Nate. Come back with me. I'll get you a
more advanced setup."
This seemed to catch Nate's interest. "Not now, but maybe in a couple of weeks."
For Nate, it didn't really matter where she was. In Manhattan, she spent 99% of her time in her room.
Her social life was minimal at best. Agnes had come to see Nate as a little sister. It took her a lot of
effort to get Nate to talk and interact with the outside world.
Agnes respected her decision, "Alright, I'll come to get you in a couple of weeks."
It only took three days for Agnes to sort out everything in Manhattan. On the last day, she decided to
visit Ryder at the Simpson Medical Center. She knew that after leaving the Whitfield Manor, Ryder had
returned to Manhattan and was probably at the hospital.
To her surprise, when she arrived, she found the door to Ryder's private office shut. She inquired with
his assistant nurse, and that's when she found out that Ryder had resigned.
